Does a camel have one hump (驼峰) or two?The answer to this ancient question depends on the type of camel. The dromedary lives largely in northern Africa and Saudi Arabia. It has one hump, long limbs (肢), and short hair to protect it from the heat of the desert. Its cousin, the Bactrian camel, has two humps, short limbs, and long hair to survive the cold winters of central Asia.
Dromedaries are perfectly suited to live in the desert. Most noticeably, they have one hump on their backs that can store up to 80 pounds of fat. This fat can be broken down into water and energy when food is not available. Thanks to their humps, dromedaries have the legendary ability to travel up to four to five days without water.Water is stored in their bodies because dromedaries rarely sweat.Dromedaries can lose up to 40 percent of the water in their bodies safely, whereas humans would die after losing 12 percent. With water being so important in the desert, it isn't surprising that a dromedary can smell water at a great distance. When it finally gets to drink, watch out!A camel can drink 30 gallons of water in 13 minutes.
Other adaptations also allow dromedaries to survive in the desert.Their light colored coats are good at reflecting heat, but warm enough for cool desert nights. The dromedary can close its nostrils (鼻孔) at will so that it doesn't breathe in sand during a sandstorm.Dromedaries also have large, tough lips that allow them to eat dry desert vegetation.Their large and wide feet distribute (分散) their weight evenly to prevent them from sinking into the sand.
Camels have been domesticated (驯养) for about 3,500 years. Originally, they were hunted for their meat. Then humans realized they could be used as a source of milk and wool and to carry heavy loads up to 25 miles a day.Historically, camels carried incense from Arabia to Egypt and goods along the Silk Road from the Roman Empire to China, and they helped spread the Islam faith to northern Africa.Although the truck has largely replaced the camel as the main form of transportation, it's still an important source of milk, wool, and meat in the Sahara Desert.
28.In what way are dromedaries and Bactrian camels different according to Paragraph 1
A.Their size.
B.Their hair color.
C.Their natural habitat.
D.Their body temperature.
29.What do we know about dromedaries' hump
A.It is made up of 40% water.
B.It prevents them losing water.
C.It can store 30 gallons of water.
D.It provides emergency supplies for them.
30.Which of the following helps dromedaries to survive in the desert
A.Sharp teeth. B.Long limbs.
C.Good sense of smell. D.Controllable nostrils.
31.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.Camels' historical role.
B.Camels' decreasing importance.
C.Camels' popularity in the world.
D.Camels' close relationship with humans.

For many years, people have watched wild animals doing tricks in circuses (马戏团) and marine parks.Elephants parade around a noisy arena (舞台).They impress the crowd with tricks they have been forced to learn — things they'd never do in the wild.
At marine parks, orca whales — measuring up to 25 feet long and weighing thousands of pounds — splash (溅出水花) out of the water and do amazing tricks, drawing cheers from the audience.
Sure, it's fun to watch these wild animals up close — but many people wonder if it's really fair to the animals? After all, an orca whale in the wild has the entire ocean as a home. They live in family groups and may travel 100 miles in a day.Is living alone swimming around in circles in a small pool a good life for an orca
In the wild, elephants also live in close family groups. They travel long distances to find food. They're very smart and look after each other and play together — things they can't do as circus performers.
Today, more and more people are saying that things should change. They believe the animals deserve to live a more natural life and not be used for entertainment. And now some companies are beginning to listen.
In March 2015, Ringling Bros, and Barnum and Bailey announced that they would no longer use elephant acts in their circuses. And on May 1st,2016, the elephants performed their last show, signaling an end to a long history of elephants in circuses and traveling shows.
A year after the Ringling announcement, SeaWorld Theme Parks promised to give the orcas in their parks a better life as well. The company announced that it would begin to phase_out shows featuring orcas performing tricks.Instead, they will highlight (突出) more of the whales' natural behaviors.SeaWorld also said they wouldn't add any more captive (被俘的) orcas to their parks.
These are first steps toward putting an end to using captive wildlife for entertainment. And these changes were made after many people spoke out loud and clear to say that wild animals deserve to live wild and free.
32.Why does the author mention elephants and orca whales in the first two paragraphs

Text 10
Welcome to Guide Dogs Training Center, boys and girls! First let me tell you something about guide dogs.
In 1918 a doctor and his pet dog walked with a soldier who was blind. The doctor went in the hospital for a short time. When he came out, he saw his pet had guided the soldier on the other side of the hospital yard safely. So he taught a dog to guide a person and it worked out well. Germany helped start a program to teach dogs to be guides.
Dorothy, an American woman, went to Germany to find out more about the guide dogs. When she came back to the United States, she wrote about it in a magazine. Soon more people knew about the guide dogs.
The best dogs for the job are clever and fit. It takes more than 2 years to train a little dog to be a guide dog. When the dog is 14 months old, it learns many instructions. Then the owner and the dog meet, and they practice for 4 weeks.
Have I made myself clear OK, let's go on visiting.

At school, Marielle's teacher taught, “You can't always be self centered. You have to be other centered.” Marielle's class had helped collect supplies for a school in Nigeria. But Marielle wanted to do more.
With help from her parents, Marielle researched local charities and found a shelter that helps women and children in need. After finding out what supplies the shelter needed, Marielle included a list with each party invitation. Her friends brought shelter supplies instead of birthday presents to Marielle's party. People who couldn't come to her party still gave gifts, as did her school. She had so many gifts that they filled her family's truck! “It was like we were going on vacation,” Marielle said with a smile. “I couldn't even put my bag in there.” She said it was fun to watch the number of donations (捐赠物) grow. In the end, she collected D|S650 in cash donations and more than D|S1,000 worth of supplies for the shelter.
When Marielle went with her parents to drop off the supplies, people at the shelter surprised her with another birthday party. They had made her a cake and gave her a card signed by everyone at the shelter.
Marielle hopes other children will hear about her special birthday and choose their own charity to support. “I felt really good when I did it.” she said. “You're not just giving them something; you're helping them with their whole life.”
