If we find a bird nest (巢), we will have a good place of observing (观察) and knowing about birds.
Birds sit on eggs and take care of their baby birds from April to June. Because the baby birds are too young to leave the nest, mothers often leave and come back to the nest during the time to look for food. So it is good to observe birds. When we observe birds, we’d better hide ourselves in a close place to the nest, and it’s better to use binoculars (双筒望远镜).
But how to make a bird nest It’s very easy. If you want to make one, please follow these:
Making a nest: A good nest must be very fine, strong, thick and easy.
a) Each nest must have six boards. Don’t make the boards too slippery.
b) Dig a small hole in the front of the nest as a door. The “door” is from 3cm to 5cm. So the bird can fly in or out easily.
c) Make sure the rainwater doesn’t go into the nest.
d) One piece of the boards should be easy to open.
e) Please don’t forget to color the nest.
16.When we’re observing birds, we have to hide ourselves to ______.
A. look after them B. use the binoculars
C. make them do everything as usual D. catch the birds at last
17.We should leave a hole in the front of the nest so that ______.
A. we can clean the nest B. the birds can fly in or out
C. we can hang it easily D. it’s easy to make

In England, people can go to the nearby hospital to see a doctor when they are ill. The doctor usually asks about their problems or illness, and then he or she will give them a prescription (处方) for some medicine.
Not all people go to see a doctor when they feel sick. For example, when they only have a cold, they don’t go to see their doctors. They only go to the medicine shop to buy some medicine.
When people are badly ill, the doctor will go to their houses. In an emergency(紧急情况) people can call 999 for an ambulance. The ambulance can take them to the hospital very soon. When they are in hospital, their friends or family members can go to see them at a certain time, but they can’t stay long.
Usually people have to pay for the doctors' prescriptions. And the price is the same for any kind of medicine. But when children, students, old people or people without jobs go to see their doctors, they don' t have to pay for their prescriptions.

Today there are many more fires than in the past.Over 100,000 wildfires burn each year in America. Russia has 20,000 to 35,000 wildfires every year.Australia has on average 60,000 each year. These fires destroy(损害)huge areas of forests and burn hundreds of homes.
Many experts believe there are several reasons for this sudden increase in fires. The first reason is climate (气候) change. Recent weather has been warmer and drier. This leads to dangerous fire conditions. When lightning strikes (发生雷电), dry grass easily catches fire.Hot winds add to the problem. The wind spreads a fire quickly. In 2010,Russia had the hottest and driest summer in a century. In just one month,500 fires destroyed over 2,000 homes. Some people lost their lives.
Traditional fire-fighting practices are another reason for the increase in fires. In America, firefighters used to quickly put out every fire. They didn’t allow the grass and trees to burn. As a result, today many forests have thicker vegetation (植被). Thicker vegetation means more fuel (燃料) for fires. Also, without fires from time to time, forests become overcrowded and unhealthy. Some trees are dead. The dead wood then easily catches fire. So surprisingly, America has many more fires today partly because of its past fire-fighting practices.
Scientists now understand that a fire can be a natural part of a healthy forest. As a result, countries like Australia allow more fires to burn naturally. Sometimes, firefighters even start fires to get rid of (去除) dead wood. Of course, they carefully control the fires. The fire thins out old trees. This allows sunlight to reach the ground. As a result, fires help new trees to grow. Therefore, if a fire is not a serious threat (威胁) to people, firefighters may let it burn naturally.
23. Why did Russia have so many fires in one month in 2010
A. Because lightning spread the fire.
B. Because there was much fuel for fires.
C. Because there were not enough firefighters.
D. Because it was unusually hot, dry and windy.
24.What happens because of the traditional fire-fighting practices in the USA
A. There are fewer wildfires.
B. Trees and grass become thicker.
C. The weather becomes warmer and drier.
D. Sunlight reaches the ground to help forests.
25.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A. Fires are serious threats to human beings.
B. Australian firefighters don’t put out fires.
C. Fires can play an important role in forests.
D. It’s difficult for firefighters to control the fires.
26.Which of the following is true according to the passage
A. Not all the fires in the forests must be put out.
B. People’s carelessness leads to dangerous fires.
C. Australia allows all the fires to burn naturally.
D. There are more fires in Russia than in the USA.

Do you want to live a happier, less stressful(有压力的)life Try laughing for no reason at all. That's how millions of people start their day at Laughter(笑声)Clubs around the world and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. "Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a day, "says Dr. Kataria. "Everyone is naturally good at laughing -— it's the common language. We want people to feel happy with their lives. "There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1, 300 in the world.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects(效果)of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study at the UCLA School of Mcdicine in California, with laughing there is less stress in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.
So what happens at a Laughter Club I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest, I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking silly. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say "ho ho ho, ha ha ha" while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the difference between real laughter and unreal laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you're under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results.

六、阅读回答问题(10分)
Hello Kitty, the cat with no mouth, has become the first cartoon kitty to go to space! Lauren Rojas, a 13-year-old girl from America came up with the idea for her science project at school.
The inspiration(灵感) came from a television programme Lauren once watched. In the programme, a balloon was released(释放) into the sky. She thought she could do the same with her Hello Kitty doll.
Lauren spent about a month building a small silver rocket and a weather balloon by herself. She put the Hello Kitty doll into the rocket and tied it with the balloon. After testing wind direction and temperature, she set the balloon free.
After a few minutes, the balloon rose more than 90, 000 feet above the ground. It was near outer space. There, the air was so thin that the balloon burst. The balloon was 53 times larger than its original size before bursting open. Hello Kitty’s rocket fell back down to Earth with the help of a parachute (降落伞), and landed safely.
Hello Kitty went along for the ride in the rocket just for fun. “I have liked her ever since I was 6 years old,” Lauren told the New York Daily News. “I thought it would be really fun to add a toy inside the rocket.”
Lauren loves carrying out science experiments. This experience sparked(激发) her interest in science even further.
