Baking Is Good for Mental Health
The new coronavirus brings out panic shoppers. They buy everything off supermarket shelves in preparation for the days to come. ____16____ So, if you have never made bread, now may be good time to learn.
With very few simple things, you can bake a fresh loaf of bread for your family, neighbors or coworkers. Baking is not just a useful survival skill. ____17____ In fact, baking and cooking have been used to treat people with mental health issues. Julie Ohana, a social worker, explains that baking works on many levels.
____18____
“When you’re baking, it really requires a certain level of focusing the mind. Kneading the dough (揉面) or rolling something out, you get the full benefit of being able to put aside all the other thoughts and just focus on the here-and-now. And there really are very strong benefits of being able to do that.”
Baking is a labor of love.
“____19____ It not only makes you feel good but also produces something you can touch and eat! When you bake, you go through this whole process and it really is a labor of love … and you end up with this finished product that not only is tangible but eatable and delicious.”
Baking is emotional.
Often our food experiences are tied to family memories and stories. We remember meals our grandmothers made. We teach our children important recipes for family favorites. “To be able to pass that on to someone else certainly can make the day for the person receiving it. But giving delicious, baked goods makes the giver feel as good as the receiver.” ____20____
A. Baking requires mindfulness.
B. Baking skills are essential in life.
C So Ohana calls baking a win-win.
D. Baking is a process filled with love.
E It can also make you feel better at stressful times.
F. So the baker can really get to benefit from the act as well.
G. Bread is often among the first products to disappear in emergency.

第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Two summers ago, I decided to begin a weight loss journey but had no idea where to start. And now, I have yet again decided to start being healthy and I need some knowledge about what to do. Now, I want to share it with all of you.
The most important thing is that you have to see this as a lifestyle change, not just a diet that can end or fail. ___16___ You will also feel less pressure if you eat a burger once in a while since you think you haven’t failed a diet and that you can always go twice as hard the next day.
Moreover, weight loss is essentially just math. It is calories in vs calories out if you put it in simple terms. If you want to lose weight, your gain of calories at the end of the day must be negative. ___17___ It is better to eat healthy food with more calories than a low-cal pack of chips. Calorie counting can also become a bit unhealthy if not well controlled. ___18___
Exercise is also vital to a healthier life. Although cardio (有氧运动) is known for its quick result, weights are also essential. ___19___ Therefore, people with more muscle mass are able to burn what they eat quicker, resulting in a greater calorie reduction. It is also just beneficial in life to be physically strong!
___20___ And what I eat may actually be bad for your weight loss. So my tip here is to eat what makes you personally feel good. It may take time to find out what your body can handle and needs, but do not quit. Good luck and happy eating.
A. Everyone has a different body.
B. However, calories are not everything.
C. Diets can help you lose some weight temporarily.
D. If you don’t, it is likely that the weight will come back.
E. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn.
F. Therefore, it is very important to calculate and control calories accurately.
G. So I recommend just eating well and controlling the amounts of food instead.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Therapeutic (治疗性的) writing involves participating in writing activities to deal with emotional issues. People work under the direction of a therapist (治疗学家) for most of the time. ____16____ In both cases, participants adopt expressive writing to put down thoughts, emotions, and other experiences.
Therapeutic writing can be useful in cases where people have difficulty communicating by other means. A client who is having trouble with a situation, for example, might write a letter to the people involved as part of therapy. ___17___ Besides, it works on how to approach the people in real life to settle the issue.
Exercises in therapeutic writing typically encourage people to write for a block of time, such as 15 minutes. They may be asked to write about their days or issues coming up in their lives. In guided therapy, the therapist may review the writing and discuss it with the patient. ___18___
Some people keep writing regular journals to share with their therapists and others. ___19___ Therapists can also use electronic journals to help patients between sessions, looking at what they’re writing about and identifying specific issues to discuss in therapy.
___20___ People may keep personal journals or diaries intended for their private use, where they can describe events and explore emotions. Some add a self-directed group therapy aspect as well by sharing their writing with friends who can provide advice.
A Some of us think that writing is only for writers.
B. There are informal approaches to writing as therapy.
C Participants can benefit from therapeutic writing exercises.
D Sometimes they can start a writing program independently.
E. Of course, patients can talk about the emotions that come up while writing.
