Certainly, there are some differences between British English and American English. There are a few differences in grammar. For example, speakers of British English say “Have you got a pen?” Americans say “Do you have a pen?” Pronunciation is sometimes different. Americans usually say “OK”[] instead of [] as most British do. Some speakers of British English do not sound the “r”s in words like “bird” and “work” while Americans usually do. English is not pronounced as it is written: vowels (元音) and consonants (辅音) can often be pronounced in different ways, and there are no accents to help you with stress. For this reason, most students see pronunciation as one of the most difficult things of the language, and they expect their teacher to help them with it. Before a student can pronounce well, they must be able to pronounce each sound more or less correctly.
·Incorrect pronunciation is one of the main reasons for breakdown in communication.
·The more help students are given with their pronunciation, the more confident they feel when they speak and the more likely they are to have a go at speaking.
·There is no point in teaching students new words or phrases if they can't pronounce them correctly.
·Although there are many irregularities, there are also rules which can help students to pronounce better. About 70% of words in English follow a regular pronunciation style.
·If students are taught to recognize phonemic scripts(音标注音), they will be able to check pronunciation of new or unusual words in their dictionary.
·Certain English sounds may not exist in their language at all or may be similar but different. Students may tend to pronounce letters or a group of letters in the same way as in their own language.
·Teaching the 44 sounds of English altogether makes students realize that the number of sounds isn't limitless.
·Students can be taught to see the relationship between a single letter and a sound, and how certain groups of letters produce certain sounds.
REMEMBER
Encourage your students with their pronunciation.

In a movie, a woman reads a storybook to her friend's daughter. As they approach the last page, she reads,“... and Cinderella and the prince lived happily ever after.” She closes the book and looks at the young girl, adding,“You know, things don't always happen like this in real life, I just think you should know that now.”
We were all raised on fairy tales with glass slippers, brave princes and magic! It didn't take too long to realize that stories like that aren't necessarily true. In real life, you learn that glass slippers are really uncomfortable, no prince is perfect and magic doesn't always work.
So what do you do when the way you planned things is not the way they turned out
Know that parts of your fairy tale have already been written, and sadly, there's not much you can do about those first few chapters. You didn't get the best start. Your trust was unexpectedly betrayed (背叛). You didn't get the job. Whatever falls and failures happened in your past, there's still more to the story.
Your life has a lot of contributors (投稿者), and you are the editor in chief. You take what's there and create the masterpiece (杰作). All the good pages and the bad can come together to make a beautiful adventure.
When you find yourself wishing your life was more like the fairy tales, remember that in some ways it already is. There will be dragons, bad witches, great romances, winding roads and friends to help you along the way. Live your life carefully and positively as if you are writing a long story. Whether it's a comedy, tragedy or a little of both, the pen is in your hand. How it ends is all up to you.

4.According to the first paragraph, we know the woman is ________.
A.wise B.cruel

解析:选A 推理判断题。根据第一段的最后一句“adding, ‘You know, things don't always happen like this in real life, I just think you should know that now’.”她并不是单纯地读故事给一个懵懂的女孩听,而是在教我们生活在现实生活中,不可能有童话故事里一样的情节发生,可以看出这个女人是一个有智慧的人,故选A。
5.Why does the author raise the question in Paragraph 3
A.To compare different ideas.
B.To express the doubts of life.
C.To introduce points for discussion.
D.To describe the conditions in real life.
解析:选C 推理判断题。很明显,作者提出了这样的一个问题,从而引出了讨论点,后面三段都是围绕这个进行讨论,故选C。
6.Which of the following may NOT often appear in fairy tales
A.Glass slippers. B.Winding roads.
C.Sad endings. D.Bad witches.
解析:选C 细节理解题。根据最后一段“There will be dragons, bad witches, great romances, winding roads and friends to help you along the way”,可知在童话故事里会出现这些东西,但没有提到悲伤的结局,故选C。
7.What is the message expressed in the passage
A.Be positive about life.
B.Write your own stories.
C.Parents should tell fairy tales to their kids.
D.There are many problems in school education.
解析:选A 主旨大意题。根据文章最后一段“Live your life carefully and positively as if you are writing a long story”可以推测,本文主要想要阐明要积极乐观的生活的观点,故选A。PAGE

Ⅳ.阅读理解
In the second half of the 15th century, European sailors began to plan voyages that would take them beyond the limits of the world they knew. The new interest in the world came in part from the Renaissance (文艺复兴), but the main reason was to set up new trading links with spice (香料) producing lands in Asia.
Spices were a necessary part of everyday life for the Europeans. Refrigeration (冷藏) had not yet been invented, so the only way to keep meat was to salt it. Adding spices helped to hide the salty taste. The spices also hid the taste of meat that had gone bad.
The Turks defeated the Byzantine Empire in 1453, cutting the land link between Europe and Asia. If spices were to reach Europe, a sea route to Asia had to be found. Prince Henry, the Navigator of Portugal, set up a school for sailors and encouraged the exploration of the African coast. In 1486, Bartholomeu Dias and his crew became the first Portuguese sailors to reach the southern tip of Africa, but he turned back because his crew was unwilling to travel any further. Ten years later, Dias helped another Portuguese sailor, Vasco da Gama, plan a voyage around Africa to India.
Christopher Columbus hoped to reach India by sailing west. When the Portuguese king would not sponsor his voyage, he asked Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. After six years, they agreed. When Columbus reached a group of islands across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, he was certain he had reached his goal. Columbus called the native people Indians. This is why the Caribbean islands are known as the West Indies. Columbus made three more voyages to the Caribbean, but he never realized his mistake.

Have enough sleep. __4__ Failing to get at least seven hours of sleep appears to increase the risk of major illnesses including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and many more.

3.选D 根据段首的关键词breakfast可知这一段说的是早餐的重要性。综观这些选项,只有D项提到了早餐:吃早餐的人也会反馈出感觉更好的信息。
4.选A 根据空前的关键词“enough sleep”定位到A项:不充足的高质量睡眠会缩短我们的寿命。故选A。
5.选E 根据空前的关键词communicate可知这里说的是与人交流的关键性。在剩余的几个选项中只剩下E项与交流有关系。句意:古谚云:“好朋友比开药方便宜得多。”所以选E。PAGE

Ⅳ.阅读理解
Do you love bacon (培根) Who doesn't, right From time to time, you may have heard the phrase “bring home the bacon”. Did you ever wonder what that means
Actually, “bring home the bacon” is a common phrase used to mean “to earn money”. If you're “bringing home the bacon”, you're making money to bring home to your family. So how is the meat connected with making money
One popular story holds that the phrase appeared in the 1100s in the small town of Great Dunmow in England. The church (教堂) in Great Dunmow would give a side of bacon as a reward to any man who could honestly say that he had not argued (争吵) with his wife for a year. Others believe the phrase got started in the 1500s at country fairs. One of the most popular competitions included catching a pig. The prize for it was that you got to keep it.
Since the 1600s, the word “bacon” has been used to mean one's body. Because people often connect the body with one's ability to work and earn money, it's believed that bacon finally took on that meaning, too. One way of earning money with one's body back then was the sport of boxing.
On September 3, 1906, boxer Joe Gans fought against Oliver Nelson for the world lightweight championship in Goldfield, Nevada. According to the Reno Evening Gazette, Joe received a telegram (电报) from his mother before the fight. It read: “Joe, the eyes of the world are on you. Everybody says you ought to win. Peter Jackson will tell me the news and you bring home the bacon.” Joe Gans did win the fight and the prize money that went along with the victory. He sent a telegram back to his mother, saying that he was “bringing home the bacon”. Mrs. Gans was probably repeating a phrase she had heard before, but hers was the first usage that experts can find. Before long, the phrase was being used commonly in boxing, and it also quickly moved to other sports.

When it comes to the question how to encourage students to achieve success, teachers may offer different answers based on their own teaching experience. Here are some suggestions.
Post your expectations around the room.
If a student does not understand what teachers expect from him, he will have a much greater chance of failure. From the first day of class, your expectations should be clear. Many teachers post their class rules for all to see. __1__ You can select posters with encouraging words that explain your expectations.
__2__
Make sure that you do not show any biases (偏见) towards students' learning. If you believe that the students in your class can't learn a subject well, they probably won't. __3__ Be careful about the words you use and make sure that you don't make students feel that you doubt their abilities. You must believe strongly and sincerely that your students can and will learn what you are teaching them.
Allow students the space to learn on their own.
__4__ While you can provide guidance, as the year goes on, you should pull back and give them more responsibility for their own learning. You should avoid jumping right in and helping students by simply providing them with the answers to their questions. __5__
A.Pay special attention to slower students.
B.Have a right attitude to students' abilities.
C.It is also a great idea to put up your expectations.
D.A healthy teacher parent relationship is necessary.
E.The way a teacher treats students is very important.

3.选E 上一句提到“如果你不相信你班的学生可以学好一门课,那么他们很可能真的学不好”。由此可知,老师对待学生的态度很重要。
