Section B The first period

Teaching Key Points:
1. New words and phrases: the Terracotta Army, the Great Wall , the Bird’s Nest ,the Palace Museum

2. Practice Ss’ listening and speaking skills
Teaching Difficulties:
1. Learn to use the Present Perfect Tense to talk about travelling.
2. How to practice Ss’ communicative competence
Teaching Methods:
1. Listening Method 2. Speaking Method 3. Pairwork
Teaching Aids: Multi-media and a tape recorder
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1. Warming Up and Daily report
Step 2. Ask Ss “What’s my hobby ” and focus on some pictures that I have ever been to . (the West Lake, shanghai and the Summer Palace.)
Then ask Ss to have a discussion about what places they have ever been to.
After that, ask some students to talk about the places they have ever been to.
Step 3. Presentation
Show the pictures of the Terracotta Army, the Great Wall , the Bird’s Nest and the Palace Museum.
Ask students to match the pictures with the places.
Then give more information about the four famous places of interest.
Step 4. Practice
Let Ss work in pairs to have a conversation with “Have you been to… ” and give Ss chances to practice their oral English ---- to say something as many as possible about the famous places of interest.
Step 5. 1b&1c Listening Practice
Play the recording twice and students finish 1b&1c .
Check the answers together.
Play it again, this time students listen and repeat one by one.
After that, students give a summary about the conversation and use their own words to retell the conversation.
Step 6. 1d Pairwork
Ask Ss to show their dialogues about the places they have ever been to.
Try to use the target language: Have you been to… Have you visited…
Have you seen… Have you tried…
Step 7. A game
Show three travelling pictures of three students.
Then ask some students to write the questions as many as they can on the blackboard.
Let other students ask them questions.
Try to use the Present Perfect Tense to talk about their travelling.
Step 8. Summary
This class, we’ve learned some patterns: Have you been to… Have you visited… Have you seen… Have you tried… to talk about our experiences.
