Unit 13 We’re trying to save the earth
teaching aims (教学目标)
Knowledge aims : Enable the students to learn to talk about the pollution and the environmental protection in English.
Ability aims: improve the students’ speaking and listening skils and develope their abilities of communication and co-operation.
Emotion aims: Enable the students to realize that we have only one earth and we should take action to save our earth.
The analysis of the students and the teaching material(学情分析)
As the ninth graders , the students have some language foundation in English they are will to talk about the hot issues in life and share the opinions with each other. They care about the environmental problems very much.This is a speaking and listening lesson ,because the students have learnt about the water pollution in Period One ,so they have a certain reserves on the language.

Ask students to talk the pollution problems with the following sentences such as:
The air is badly polluted .
Factories that burn coal pollute the air with...
We should take the bus or ...instead of ...
Teaching difficult points:(教学难点)
Enble the students to carry out the conversations and speeches with the sentences they learn this lesson.

Step I : Presentation and lead-in
Show the students some pictures, for example,the picture of the bule sky and the picture of the grey sky, the picture of the clear water and the picture of the dirty water and so on.
T: What can you see in the picture
S: I can see the blue sky.
T: What can you see in the next picture
S: The gry sky.
Ask the students to find the difference by comparing the pictures .Then introduce and present the kinds of pollution to the students, at the same time ,say some simple things about the pollution.
The purpose of this step is to prepare some information for the listening practice for the students.
Step II Listening practice
Do activities 2a and 2b .train the students to listen to main idea and the specific details and at the same time input the new target language.
StepIII Pairwork
To make the students master and use the target language very well , I will ask them to make conversations with the information in 2b.
First give the example and ask them to practice like this:
A: Why is the air badly polluted
B: because ...
A: Why is there too much...
B: Because...
Before practice , teach some important and difficult phrases and sentences, then the students can do the conversation without difficulty. At last, ask students to act their conversations in class.
Step IV: read and discuss
1. T: since we have known what caused the pollution How can we solve it. let's go to page 98 and find out Susan and Jason's suggetions .
Then ask them to read and write down the answer. Next, ask them to fill in the blanks with the information they find.
2. T: We should also do somthing like Susan and Jason to help deal with the pollution. Please discuss with your partner and list the things you can do .
get the students to think of some ideas that they can do in their daily life, and then let them shair their ideas in class.
Step V: Make a speech.
First show them a video about fighting with the pollution . After watching the video ,ask them " what can we do now "
lead them to say "we must take action to save our earth" then ask them to make a speech. they must use the sentences
they learn during the lesson. Offer them some help sentences,and tell them they can add more sentences if necessary.
At last, let several of them give a speech in front of the class.
