七、阅读理解
Every country has its own characteristics(特点). One thing that visitors in the UK always notice is British people are good at waiting, especially in a line. Everywhere in the UK, it's common to see lines: at bus stops, in shops and in cinemas.
Kate Bradley, a teacher at the University of Kent, explained that waiting in line in the UK isn't simply about showing politeness to other people.British people like everything to be in perfect order, so being rude like pushing the way to the front of the queue is something that most British people try to avoid.
It's said that the tradition started during World War Ⅱ. At that time, people had to wait in line to get things like food in shops. The government was worried that trouble and disorder(动乱) would occur. So people were told that waiting in line politely and patiently was a British thing to do. And that message is still alive today.
There is probably only one thing that will influence people's willingness to stand patiently in a line — the weather which can change quickly in the UK. One minute it can be fine and sunny and the next minute it can be rainy and windy. If someone decides not to follow the rule in bad weather, most British people will speak up and tell the queue-jumper to get to the back of the line.
But ▲ . Although people are waiting, they may be excited about the thing they're waiting for, for example, a pop concert. The excitement can make waiting for something a very enjoyable experience.
