"Mum, I am going outside," said Alfred as he rushed outside. He ran quickly down the road to his friend Robert's house. "Hi, Robert, let's go swimming down the river today," said Alfred. "Sure, let's go. Oh, wait. There's not much water though and it's not raining either." said Robert. "Oh well, I'd better see you tomorrow." said Alfred.
As he was walking home, it started to rain heavily, and the river began to fill up. So Alfred ran back to Robert's and knocked on the door. "It's raining." said Alfred. So Robert agreed and took his boogie boards(趴板) down to the river for a swim with Alfred.
"Let's jump," shouted Alfred, as he jumped into the river. It was about 4 o'clock before they noticed that the river was rising fast. Unluckily, it was too late for them to turn back. The river was running fast and they begin to panic.
It wasn't long before they saw a large tree that they could hold on to, hanging over the river. "Hold on to it!" shouted Alfred, as they reached for the tree. Alfred started to climb up the tree when Robert shouted, "Help! I'm stuck(卡住)!" So Alfred helped Robert out of the tree and they walked back home.
The next day at school when talking about their "near-death" experience, they said, "Thanks to the tree, we could be saved. If we have another chance, we will never choose to swim in such terrible weather again. What an unforgettable lesson!"
