People living with heart disease, high blood pressure or stroke may benefit from practicing traditional Chinese exercises such as Tai Chi, showed a study published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
“But the physical and psychological benefits to these patients of this increasingly popular form of exercise must be determined based on scientific evidence.”
In the new study, the researchers reviewed 35 research articles, which included 2,249 cardiovascular (心血管的) disease patients from 10 countries.
They found Chinese exercises helped reduce the participants' systolic blood pressure, the top number, by more than 9.12 mmHg, and diastolic blood pressure, the bottom number, by more than 5 mmHg on average.
The study also revealed small, but statistically significant drops in the levels of bad cholesterol, or low density lipoprotein, and triglycerides.
Chinese exercises also seemed to improve quality of life and reduce depression in patients with cardiovascular disease, they said.
“Our systematic review results showed that TCE (traditional Chinese exercises) should be useful for patients with CVD (cardiovascular disease), ”the researchers wrote in their paper.
However, traditional Chinese exercises did not significantly improve participants' heart rate, aerobic fitness level or scores on a general health questionnaire.
The review only analyzed studies which randomly assigned participants to groups performing traditional Chinese exercises, most commonly Tai Chi, Qigong and Baduanjin, engaging in another form of exercise or making no change in activity level.

B.Chinese exercises are good for certain patients
C.Chinese exercises can improve significantly participants' heart rate
D.Chinese exercises can help some patients live a better life
3.From Paragraph 2, we know that ________.
A.the exercises can benefit some patients both physically and psychologically
B.Chinese exercises have been the most popular form of exercises
C.Chinese exercises can only benefit some patients physically
D.whether the exercises can benefit some patients both physically and psychologically has not been proved
4.The study team will probably study ________ in the future.
A.the effect of different types of traditional Chinese exercises on chronic diseases
B.the effect of Tai Chi

Bacterial defenses of fungus farming (培植真菌的) ants could help in medical battle against superbugs. Scientists have accurately pointed out a promising new source of antibiotics (抗生素): ants. They have found that some species — including leafcutter ants from the Amazon — use bacteria to defend their nests against invading (入侵的) fungi and microbes.
Chemicals discharged by the bacteria in this fight have been shown to have particularly powerful antibiotic effects and researchers are now preparing to test them on animals to determine their potential as medicines for humans.
Doctors say new antibiotics are urgently needed as superbugs' resistance to standard antimicrobial agents (抗菌剂) spreads. More than 700,000 people globally now die of drug resistant infections each year, which is estimated, and some health officials say this figure could be even higher. The former UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon said antimicrobial resistance was now a fundamental danger to global health.
This was repeated by Professor Cameron Currier, one of the scientists involved in the ant research.“Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem,” he said. “However, discovering new antibiotics by using the standard technique of sampling soil for bacteria is intractable. On average, only one in a million bacteria proves promising. By contrast, we have uncovered a promising type of bacteria for every 15 bacteria we have sampled from an ant's nest.”
Only a very specific group of ants are proving useful in this work, however. These are species that farm fungi in tropical regions in North and South America. “These ants search for plant material, which they bring back to their nests and feed to a fungus,” said Professor Jon Clardy. “The fungus breaks down the plant material and the ants feed on the fungus. ”
The strategy (策略) evolved around 15 million years ago, and has proved highly successful. There are now more than 200 ant species that farm fungi. Most fungus farming ants simply search for bits of old leaves or grass on the ground, however. A few, like leafcutter ants, cut leaves from trees and bring them back in pieces to their nest. “Plants are hard to digest, but fungi are good decomposers and break down plant material so ants can feed easily,” said Ethan Van Arnam.
However, scientists have recently discovered that these nests are sometimes attacked by opposing fungi. “They kill off both the nest and its farmed fungus,” said Clardy. “In turn, ants have developed defenses revealed as white patches on their bodies. They look as if they were dipped in powdered sugar. These patches are made of bacteria which the ant stores in its body. Crucially, these bacteria produce powerful antibiotics and antifungal agents.”
5.Which statement may Professor Cameron Currier agree with
A.None of the sampled bacteria proves available.
B.Antimicrobial resistance is a serious health threat.
C.Tropical ants tend to use bacteria as a nest defense.
D.The traditional way of making antibiotics is out of date.
6.What does the underlined word “intractable” probably mean in Paragraph 4
A.Difficult. B.Efficient.
C.Necessary. D.Conservative.
7.What's the main idea of the passage
A.How do ants farm fungi
B.Why are ants' bacterial defenses effective
C.What leads to the antibiotic crisis in medicine
D.Could ants be a solution to the antibiotic crisis

People from all over the world visit Disneyland to have fun, not to get sick. But last week, an outbreak of measles (麻疹) spread from the Southern California theme park. As of Monday, January 19, at least 52 people have got the easily spread illness.
The majority of the reported cases of measles are from people who visited the park before. According to the California Department of Public Health, these people were exposed to the illness at Disneyland from December 17—20.
Officials believe the cause is likely someone who caught measles abroad and visited Disneyland, but this has yet to be proved. However, in 2014, California had its highest measles infection rate in nearly twenty years. There were 66 cases of measles reported in the state — 23 of them in Orange County, where Disneyland is located.
Measles spreads very easily. It can be caught from coughing and sneezing. Crowded areas like theme parks are especially suitable for its spread.
The illness starts with a fever and develops into symptoms including a cough, runny nose, red eyes and so on. About three out of ten people infected with measles will develop another health problem, including an ear infection or pneumonia (肺炎).
The best way to guard against measles is to get vaccinated (打疫苗). An unvaccinated person is 35 times more likely to catch measles than someone who received a vaccination.
8.What's the possible reason of this illness occurring in California
A.There were too many people visiting Disneyland.
B.Somebody with measles visited Disneyland.
C.California is a place fit for this illness spread.
D.Some people ate something that had gone bad.
9.What do we know about measles from the text
A.Half of people infected with it will die soon.
B.It usually begins with a cough and red eyes.
C.It spreads easily in a place with many people.
D.It's impossible to stop it from spreading.
10.To prevent measles, the best thing we can do is ________.

In modern society there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some value it highly, believing that it is responsible for social progress and prosperity (繁荣). Others say that competition is bad, that it sets one person against another and that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.
I have taught many children who held the belief that their self worth relied on how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life and death affairs. In their single minded pursuit (追求) of success, the development of many other human qualities is sadly forgotten.
However, while some seem to be lost in the desire to succeed, others take an opposite attitude. In a culture which only values the winner and pays no attention to the ordinary players, they strongly blame competition. Among the most vocal are youngsters who have suffered under competitive pressures from their parents or society. Teaching these young people, I often observe in them a desire to fail. They seem to seek failure by not trying to win or achieve success. By not trying, they always have an excuse, “I may have lost, but it doesn't matter because I really didn't want to try.” What is not usually admitted by them is the belief that if they had really tried and lost, that would mean a lot.
Such a loss would be a measure of their worth. Clearly, this belief is the same as that of true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one's self respect relies on how well one performs in comparison with others. Both are afraid of not being valued. Only as this basic and often troublesome fear begins to dissolve (缓解) can we discover a new meaning in competition.

第二节:概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
参考范文:
Some people value competition highly while others are against it strongly in modern society. (要点1) Although some of my students take an opposite attitude, (要点2) many believe their performance determines their self worth, among whom some struggle to win while others even have a desire to fail, because both of them fear to be valued. (要点3) Only when such fear disappears can we learn the true meaning of competition. (要点4)
