Vehicles often come into conflict with other vehicles and pedestrians when their intended courses of travel intersect (交叉), and end up being in each other’s way. The general principle that establishes who has the right to go first is called “right of way”, or “priority”. It determines who has the right to use the conflicting part of the road and who has to wait. Signs, signals, markings and other features are often used to make priority clear.
A driver must yield (让行) the right of way to other drivers:
●When approaching a YIELD sign. Slow down or stop to avoid a crash.
●Even after the light turns green when there are vehicles in the intersection.
●When approaching emergency vehicles using sounding or flashing sirens.
●After coming to a complete stop at an intersection where there is a stop sign or a flashing red signal. If there is no stop line, stop before the crosswalk.
●When making a left turn on a red light after a stop from a one way street to another one way street with traffic moving to the left. (See Figure A.)
●When two vehicles on different roadways arrive at a four way stop intersection at the same time, the vehicle should yield to the vehicle on its right. (See Figure B.)
●When coming out of an alley, building, private road or driveway after coming to a complete stop. (See Figure C.)
●When crossing traffic at the end of a “T” road with no traffic control signs or signals. (See Figure D.)

Inside WeWork’s New York City headquarters on a Thursday morning, a handful of kids were selling carrots and peppers. The children are members of WeWork’s first school, WeGrow, where farming is part of the curriculum. They were interacting with WeGrow employees browsing the goods. “How many carrots would you like?” One girl asked. “We take Apple Pay,” another shouted.
Founded in 2010, WeWork has made a name for itself as a global network of coworking spaces. WeGrow is WeWork’s newest enterprise (事业) and its first attempt in the education industry.
WeGrow, a school which claims to grow “conscious leaders”, is inspired by the Montessori approach to learning that gives children the freedom to explore and choose their activities, so their nature of creativity and curiosity is preserved. But the goal is not to create next generation CEOs. “Leadership is a bit of an exciting word for people,” said Rebekah, WeGrow’s founder and CEO. “We’ve seen children do such a thing forever — running a lemonade stand every time, that’s what that is.”
WeGrow opened in the fall last year. Currently, 46 kids are enrolled in classes from pre kindergarten to fourth grade. The kids start every morning with live music, followed by yoga. They spend time in nature and choose to take either Hebrew or Mandarin courses. WeGrow students learn science, math, social studies and language arts. It also has a program for kids to connect with WeWork community members with careers in areas kids might be interested in. But the main concern is that standardized tests are not available to measure the students’ overall progress.
They want to create an environment where people can work to make a life and not just a living, but that’s part of a larger mission to raise the world’s awareness towards creating a world where people are happy and fulfilled and living in a sharing state.
4.What do we know about WeGrow from the text

6.Why is it hard to measure students’ progress
A.Because there are so many courses.
B.Because the students are of a wide age range.
C.Because standardized tests have limitations.
D.Because the school lacks professional testers.
7.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.A Farming featured School
B.An Education based Business

Two deer jumped out in front of 16 year old Amanda Floyd’s car. She put on the brake, stopping the car just in time. But later, she started texting. Distracted, Amanda turned left and right, then crashed into another car. Luckily, she wasn’t in a real car — she was in a driving simulator (模拟器) at Roosevelt High School, Ohio, US. “I never really realized that cars make a turn that much,” Amanda, a junior, said. She added that she wouldn’t text while driving anymore.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Ohio State Highway Patrol brought the simulator to the school. They said they wanted to help students learn about the danger of driving while drunk, texting, or talking on the phone.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, distracted driving claimed 3,450 lives in 2016 alone. Experts believe the actual figure is probably higher.
The simulator is basically a computer program. Like many computer games, it was a hit with the students. They lined up and crowded around to watch each other take turns. The simulator has a steering wheel (方向盘), brake and gas pedal (油门). It is made up of three large computer screens on a table.
Students choose a distraction, such as driving while drunk or texting. They always crash, of course. Then, they are pulled over by the police to be taught the bad results of their driving: how much damage they’ve caused, what their fine is, if anyone died in the accident, and if they’re going to go to prison.
“It teaches how to drive without being on the road,” said Shante Thompson, 16. She had just crashed into a deer.
ODOT spokesman Justin Chesnic said hundreds of kids have gone behind the wheel so far. He said even more have benefited from watching their classmates.
“Driving is such a major responsibility, so take it seriously,” he said. “Put away your cellphone. A lot of the accidents out there are because of distracted driving. It can not only change your life, but change someone else’s life forever. The results are serious.”

Google’s new camera, called Google Clips, is a small, smart device. It comes with a case that has a clip (夹子), but it’s not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photography out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own.
This roughly 2 inch by 2 inch camera, with a three hour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smartphone.
The device uses machine learning algorithms (计算程序) to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. “Once it learns that there’s a face you see frequently, it’ll try to get nice photos of the face,” said Juston Payne, the device’s product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, training it to know what happiness looks like. The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shoot — like when a child’s hand is over the lens, or if it is tossed in a dark purse.
The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing.
Were people concerned it could seem strange Yes, Payne admitted. But they said they addressed that by making it obvious what it is. A green light on the front signals that it is on. Besides, unlike a camera meant to monitor your home, it is not connected to the Internet.
“This product is only possible because of the way that silicon has advanced, ” Payne said, noting that it was only in the past year or so that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. Going forward, we’re likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps and gadgets.
12.What is the most outstanding feature of Google Clips
A.It is equipped with tough glass.
B.It enables easy Internet access.
C.It allows of hands free photography.
D.It can be worn on your clothing.
13.What does the underlined word “candid” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Brief. B.Touching.
C.Unforgettable. D.Embarrassing.
14.What makes Google Clips a reality according to Juston Payne
A.The popularity of the Internet.
B.The advance in technology.
C.The rise of the smartphone industry.
D.The reduction in the price of lens.
15.What is the best title for the text
A.A New Digital Camera from Google
B.New Gadgets in the Age of Apps
C.Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life
D.An Alternative Way to Photography

James was a captain in the United States Army, but no war zone could have prepared him for taking care of his three year old son Shawn on his own. James had taken leave from the army so his wife Jessica could go to take care of her sick mother. He was excited about playing Mr. Mom for a few weeks, but he had greatly underestimated Shawn.
Morning one started out interestingly. Shawn woke at 7:00 a.m., ready to start the day. James was still fast asleep when Shawn made his way into the bedroom. James was awoken to a firm slap on the forehead and a usually sweet little voice demanding that “Daddy get up”. James yawned and rubbed his head, saying, “Good morning, little man. How are you?”
“Get up, Daddy. I’m hungry.”
“Okay, I’m getting up.” James was out of bed, had his teeth brushed, his face washed, and was fully dressed in less than five minutes. Years of military training and repetition came in handy at times. Poor James had no idea just how much of that training he would need to pull from to get through the morning.
“Daddy, I’m hungry,” Shawn repeated, not so much informing, but rather ordering.
“How about we go get you dressed first?”
“No.”
“Yes. Let’s get dressed and then we will have breakfast.”
“No!” Shawn ran from the room.
“Excuse me, sir. You come back here!”
“No, sir!”
Once James finished laughing and regained his composure, he ran after Shawn who was waiting for him in the kitchen.“Shawn, we need to get dressed and then we’ll have breakfast.”
“Carry me,” Shawn ordered, lifting his arms up towards James. “Aren’t I supposed to be giving the orders around here?” James questioned as he picked up Shawn and carried him towards the bedroom.
Paragraph 1:
James threw his son to the bed and ordered him to take off his sleeping clothes.

Paragraph 2:
Therefore, Shawn ordered his daddy to

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

参考范文:
Paragraph 1:
James threw his son to the bed and ordered him to take off his sleeping clothes. However, his son cried, “No, sir!”“Take your sleeping clothes off and then we’ll have breakfast.”Shawn quickly did that. “Yay, breakfast time!” James quickly realized the importance of specificity with children. When he wanted to make some food for his son, Shawn stopped him.“What What do I have to do right?”“That’s not what Mommy does.”“Okay, what does Mommy do?” James asked. “Mommy makes me biscuits. I want biscuits. I want Mommy.”
Paragraph 2:
Therefore, Shawn ordered his daddy to make some biscuits for him. “Daddy, I’m hungry again; you must make them quickly.”That was like his father ordered soldiers to obey. At first James didn’t respond, but Shawn rushed to the kitchen. Seeing that, James quickly said, “OK, sir.” The noon was coming near, and James put his son onto the bed, but he cried again, “Where is my Mommy I want Mommy.” “OK, when you wake up, your mother will stand by you,” James said. “Really I’m going to sleep.” At last, he had to ask his wife to come back.
