In the summer after Maggie Doyne graduated(毕业) from high school, she decided to spend a year traveling all over the world before she started college. However, the journey(旅程) changed her life and she also changed the world.
In 2006, Doyne took a backpacking trip through the Himalayan Mountains in the country of Nepal that was destroyed by the war(战争). Because Doyne had grown up comfortably in Mendham, New Jersey, the USA, she was surprised and upset to see so many orphans(孤儿) living on the streets. She wanted to do something about it. And she has helped more than 700 other homeless kids find families. She also runs a program that provides scholarships(奖学金) for poor families to send their children to school.
Do Something(an organization that provides support for teens who want to make a difference in the world) also did something for Doyne. On June 4th, 2009, the organization gave Doyne $100，000 for her service as the 2009 Do Something Award. Doyne also made a plan to build a school with the money she had just won.
