Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for taking your time to read my letter. I m a senior high school student. With the International Youth Football Matches approaching, I’d like to apply to be a volunteer.
I think I’m fit for the job. First of all, I’ m enthusiastic about football matches. Second, I can speak English as fluently as the native speakers do, which enables me to have no difficulty in communicating with people I meet. What’s more, I have experience of volunteering and I know how to get along well with others.
In short, I’m eager to be a volunteer for the matches. I will do whatever I can to help if I am accepted.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,

Before the camera was invented ,the natural world was recorded in paintings and sketches (素 描) by artists like John James Audubon.
As a boy growing up in France, Audubon loved the woods and enjoyed hanging out in the wild, collecting avian (鸟类的) curiosities-bird nests and eggs-and made simple drawings. After a period of failed service in the navy, his father sent him to America.
While his father hoped his curious son would make something of himself in mining or some other enterprises, John Audubon was consumed with the natural world. His other main interest was young Lucy Bakewell, who was also enthusiastic about the natural world. Soon, the two fell in love with each other and got married.
Awakened by the need to provide for his wife and children, Audubon tried his hand as a store owner yet failed. His next business also failed. Then he learned fishing from his friend and earned a living by selling fishes. But he got into debt soon. When Audubon paid his debts off, he decided to follow his original passion. He set off into the wilderness, carrying little more than some basic necessities and drawing materials. There, at last, he found his calling in life.
Audubon usually stayed for months at a time in the wilderness, rising long before dawn to observe and returning in full light to paint all afternoon. At one point, he lost over 200 drawings, his entire collection, when rats found their way into his cabin and chewed them up. Again, he started over, just like how he reacted to business failures . After 14 years of tramping (长途跋涉) in the wilderness with his pen and ink, he had his collection of drawings. But the popularity of avian drawings was slow to catch on in America. Still, he refused to give up. He earned enough to pay for the passage to Europe to take his chances there.
Fortunately, he was well received in England. His 435 original works came to be known as the greatest picture book ever created: The Birds ofAmerica. Eventually, John Audubon opened our minds not only to the
beauty around us but also to the beauty of possibilities-if we just keep trying.

C. He showed interest in photography. D. He wanted to join the navy.
25. Why did Audubon try different enterprises before setting off into the wilderness
A. To gain financial support for his passion. B. To support his newly formed family.
C. To learn from other businessmen. D. To follow his father's dream.
3

A. Stuck and puzzled. B. Discouraged and hesitant.
C. Determined and hopeful. D. Angry and pitiful.

One of the greatest sources of concern for Alaina Castillo has been the letter R.
Rolling Rs is at the heart of learning Spanish and one of its most challenging trills ( 颤音,)especially for those unaccessible to the language regularly as a young child.
This is a lesson the 21-year-old singerspent years learning in and out of school. And it's one that has paid off for Castillo, particularly on TikTok (抖音,)which has made efforts to train its Spanish creators.
The Houston native is part of a flourishing Spanish and Latinx creator community that has attracted huge followings through videos that briefly translate cultural traditions and history for a young and captive TikTok audience.
"TikTok is a window to the world, and we've seen people across the worldwide Latinx and Spanish connect with one another on the platform through shared stories and experiences," Kudzi Chikumbu, TikTok's director of creator community, told CNN over email.
TikTok videos from Spanish creators are also getting consumed more than ever. TikTok hashtags(主 题标签)#Latino, #Latina, #Familia and #Comida, among others, grew in use by more than 185% since last year's Spanish Heritage Month, according to data shared by TikTok spokesperson Cynthia Dew. The
hashtags #Latino and #Latina have more than 62 billion views combined to date, Dew added.
Millions of those viewsbelong to Castillo, who joined TikTok roughly a year ago to share original Spanish and English songs, as well as covers.
When she started making music, Castillo thought she'd be singing in English. That changed after her family encouraged her to write records in Spanish after learning the language in high school, Castillo told CNN.
"There's a lot of different opinions when it comes to Latinx or people like me who are learning Spanish, so I made it my job to write records that bridge the gap between Spanish speakers and those who want to learn but were never taught," she said.
28. What worries Castillo most in learning Spanish
A. She is an American Native. B. She has no gift for a second language.
C. She had no access to Spanish as young. D. "R” is difficult to pronounce.
29. What do the underlined words "the language" in Paragraph 2 refer to A.Latin. B. English. C. Spanish. D. Rolling Rs.
30. How do you like Castillo from her experience
A. Anxious and slow. B. Strong-willed and enthusiastic.
C. Creative and humorous. D. Brave and popular.
31. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Castillo helps non-Spanish speakers a lot.
4
B. People of different languages stand apart.
C. Castillo is fond of writing English records.
D. People can understand Latinx people well.

Kwanzaa may be a festival celebrated by millions of African Americans and pan-Africans, but it has only been around for a few decades introduced to the United States in 1966 as a ceremony to welcome the first harvest to the home, the festival, which takes place from December 26 to January 1, is a celebration of life, unity, family, and culture.
Featuring feasts, music and dance, and a devotion and recommitment to different principles(信 条), the festival was created in the middle of the Black Freedom Movement, at a time when it was felt that cultural grounding was needed .
Dr. Maulana Karenga, professor and chairman of Black Studies at California State University in Long Beach, is responsible for bringing the festival to life. After the Watts violence in L.A., Dr. Karenga searched for ways to strengthen the African-American community. He paired the practices with traditions of several different harvest celebrations on the African continent, and although it is celebrated around the Christmas period, it perhaps has more similarities to Thanksgiving or the Yam Festival in Ghana and Nigeria.
There are five common sets of values that are central to the week-long activities: ingathering, reverence, commemoration, recommitment, and celebration. There are seven principles of Kwanzaa, meaning first fruits in Kiswahili, a language spoken in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The first fruit celebrations appear in ancient and modem times in classical African civilizations.
These seven principles are known as Umoja, meaning unity; kujichagulia , self-determination; ujima, collective work, and responsibility; ujamaa, cooperative economics ; nia, purpose; kuumba, creativity; and Imani, faith. There are seven candles used during the festival, and like, the Jewish Hanukkah(光明节), these candles are used to represent the principles.
On December 31, participants celebrate with a plentiful meal, often featuring good meals from various African countries.
The number of Americans who celebrate Kwanzaa has changed greatly over the years, and with as many as six million getting involved in the 1980s, Kwanzaa became a mainstream holiday. Now, however, numbers have paled, but it still remains an important cultural touchstone (试金石) for many African American communities.
32. What activity can be included during the celebration of Kwanzaa
A. Having a plentiful meal. B. Creating a piece of music.
C. Giving and receiving gifts. D. Enjoying an art exhibition.
33. How did Dr. Karenga bring Kwanzaa to life
