I quickly realized that I was the only 9 in the situation and that the traffic light would turn green soon.I then thought to myself,“I’ve been teaching him about 10 others and now that he wants to give everything he can 11 ,I shouldn’t let my personal self-centeredness 12 this act of kindness.”
I almost told my son,“Let’s wait to 13 until we at least have one dollar.” I almost told my son that what he had wasn’t 14 .I almost showed him that what he saw as a good thing couldn’t make a 15 in someone’s life.I almost taught him that personal 16 was more important than helping another human.

Passage 1
2.C 解析 后面but引导的句子指出“that’s not the only good news”表明手术的结果是好消息,显然指预后良好。
4.B 解析 此处在对Make-A-Wish这个组织作解释,使用了whose引导的定语从句,表语部分的不定式“to make the dreams of seriously sick children come true”显然是该组织的目的、意图。
7.D 解析 根据第五段第一句中“to help Abraham to feed about 80 homeless people”可推知Abraham要求的是给他们提供食物。
Passage 2
2.A 解析 根据下文“Benjamin and Mary’s friendship has 16 so many”可知,尽管Mary和Benjamin年龄悬殊,但他们还是成了朋友,形成了独特的关系(bond)。
3.C 解析 结合上文和句子“long before he was born”可推知,Mary和Benjamin父母在Benjamin出生之前就是邻居。
4.A 解析 根据上文“They didn’t see Mary much”和下文“Mary was someone they could 6 —outside.”
6.B 解析 根据下文“the Olsons 7 played in their yard, and Mary would be in hers”可知,两家人隔着围栏在自己的院子里玩耍,所以Olson一家能看到Mary。
8.D 解析 根据句中“they would play games”可知,Benjamin会去找Mary一起玩。
9.A 解析 根据第一段“Mary is 99.Benjamin is 2.”
10.D 解析 根据句中“we’ll go outside”可知,Benjamin要出去找Mary。
12.D 解析 根据句中“a friend was just what she needed”可推知,玛丽在疫情期间独自一人,她需要朋友。
13.A 解析 根据“a childlike spirit with Benjamin, playing with bubbles and even water guns”可知,99岁高龄的Mary是重新发现了童心。
16.C 解析 根据“people like to see”可知,人们乐于见到这一种友谊,深受感动。
17.A 解析 根据下文“We didn’t have to work on it at all”可知,Benjamin的父母并没有做什么,这种友谊是自然产生的。
18.D 解析 根据上文“We didn’t have to work on it at all”可知,友谊自己就发生了。
Passage 3
1.C 解析 根据后半句中的cash,以及后一句“My son 2 the man as well and he insisted that I give the man the 30 cents he had.”
13.A 解析 根据下一句“I almost told my son that what he had wasn’t 14 .”
15.C 解析 make a difference 意为“产生影响”。
16.B 解析 前文“My own pride and 7 over the homeless man’s disappointed reaction to 8 just two coins stood in the way.”
17.B 解析 根据“I shouldn’t let my personal self-centeredness 12 this act of kindness.”
19.D 解析 根据上文可知,作者觉得30美分实在太少了,结果对方在听到作者说“I don’t have any cash on me,but my 5-year-old son back in the 18 wants to give you everything he has right now.”
