Passage 1
(2022安徽皖南八校三模)
Most students hate tests. The fear of failing them is really unpleasant. 1 Give these four study tips a try and see how much better you feel during your next exam.
1.Survey your textbook before you read.
Take a couple of minutes to find the wordlist, index, questions and other important information. Then, when you sit down to study, you’ll know where to find the answers you are looking for. 2 These questions let you know what you can probably expect in any upcoming tests.
2. 3
As you read, summarize each section of the chapter on a post-it note. After you have read the entire chapter,go back and review the notes. It is an easy and efficient way to review information. And you can easily find the information you need.
3.Make your own practice test.
After you finish reading, pretend you are a professor writing a test for the chapter.Review the material you just read and make up your own practice test.Include all vocabulary words, study questions, and highlighted words you can find,as well as any other important information. 4 If not,go back and study some more.
4.Create visual flashcards.
Flashcards will help you remember important terms, people, places and dates. On the front of the card, write down the term or the question. This will help ensure that you grasp the study material. 5 Review these cards and quiz yourself before the actual test.
A.Use sticky notes.
B.Prepare a notebook.
C.Take the test to see if you remember the information.
D.If all the questions are included, there is no need to worry.
E.But there are a few tricks you can learn to avoid the worry.
F.On the back write down the definition or the answer.
G.Make sure you read any study questions before you read the chapter.
Passage 2
(2022安徽合肥二模)
Boosting your emotional intelligence quotient,or EQ,involves identifying and managing your own emotions,as well as evaluating and controlling the way in which you react to those of others. 1 It can also improve your relationships with loved ones and your social interactions. Here are some tips you can use to start improving your EQ.
●Identify your emotions.
Identifying your emotions takes practice and is an important foundational step in building emotional intelligence.Regularly recognizing and naming your emotions throughout the day is a good way to develop your EQ. 2 You could even go a step further, and try to determine how the presence of certain emotions affects your behavior and productivity.
●Consider your response.
3 Taking responsibility for the way you behave towards others and, possibly even more importantly, how you treat yourself,is a crucial aspect of emotional intelligence.
● 4
Empathy is a cornerstone of EQ.It is defined as the ability to identify and share the thoughts, feelings or the emotional state of another person.A little empathy goes a long way.It is important to demonstrate empathy towards people other than just those with whom you find it easy to get along.
●Listen actively.
Engage in the moment and acknowledge what other people are saying. 5 Active listening involves asking open-ended questions such as “When ” “How ” “Do you mean... ” or “Could you tell me a bit more about that ”.Active listening also calls for avoiding questions that would get only a “yes” or “no” response.
Developing your emotional intelligence can not only help you reduce your stress, but also leave you with more time to connect with, and continuously improve your relationships with, those around you.
A.Show your care.
B.Put yourself in other people’s shoes.
C.You just don’t know what they might be going through.
D.You must remember you can choose how you react to a situation.
E.Besides, trying to identify exactly what you are feeling can do the trick.
F.Try to avoid just waiting for your turn to talk about yourself and your story.
G.Exploring and improving these skills can help you to succeed in your career.
Passage 3
(2022山西吕梁二模)
When studying for exams, especially finals, you may often be stressed out and need help with a difficult subject. You can attempt to handle that stress by organizing a final exam study group.
Found the group.Ask your classmates if they want to join your study group.Do your best to only gather those who are in your grade. 1 Those who are older and younger than you may have trouble participating in the study group and won’t benefit as much from it.
2 Once you have an appropriate number of people in your study group, discuss the dates and times for your meetings.Since everyone has different schedules, some people may not always be able to come. You should make sure that they’ll be able to attend most of the meetings. 3
Discuss the subject.Remember to ask questions or opinions about the topic you’re studying,as this is a study group. 4 This may help people understand the subject even more.Don’t be afraid to ask for help or solve problems together if necessary. You could also create study guides together and use them to test each other.
5 Keeping a friendly, calming atmosphere around everyone will encourage people with their studies.Avoid keeping a serious, rigid environment around you,as it will make your classmates feel nervous and perhaps distract (使分心) them from studying.
A.Create a schedule.
B.Set proper targets.
C.Maintain a good environment.
D.You should also decide how often you will meet.
E.It’s easy to lose focus and begin talking with your members.
F.Have some educational talks and talk about different concepts together.
G.That way, you’ll be able to cover most topics that everyone will understand.
Passage 4
(2022陕西宝鸡一模)
We all have a to-do list.Like you, mine seems to be growing every day instead of becoming shorter. But now I am going to cover three areas and tell you what not to do.
 1
You’re never going to finish everything on your to-do list. 2 You should think about the Pareto principle.20% of your tasks will produce 80% of your results.Concentrate on them. There are other important tasks that will need to be done but they don’t necessarily need to be done by you.Let’s say you take up consulting work at $150 per hour but you have some bookkeeping to do. 3 Why not pay someone $55 per hour to do your bookkeeping so you can earn $150 per hour
Don’t leave each day to chance.
Does your day fly by without you even realizing where the hours are gone Have you considered creating a morning or an evening ritual (惯例) There may be a different solution for you but I am particularly protective of my mornings—I wake up early, exercise and write.Others who keep a journal at the end of the day may plan out their next day. 4 It’s important to structure your day as this will help you get more done to achieve your goals.
Keep it simple! This will help you organize your tasks in order of priority (优先),and you won’t feel overwhelmed looking ahead at tasks for tomorrow, next week,or next month.Be realistic about what you can accomplish in 24 hours.
Don’t allow others to steal your time.
5 Stop answering every random call or accepting a meeting request that doesn’t have a specific schedule.Actively guard your time and stop the time-wasters from eating into your productivity. When you do this, people will both respect you more and value your time more.
A.Don’t try to do everything.
B.Either of these might work for you.
C.There’s always something added to it.
D.This work is worth maybe $55 per hour.
E.Don’t waste your time looking back on what you’ve lost.
F.Your time is valuable and you should treat it as much.
G.Finishing my to-do list has become one of my most important tasks.
