二、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As Amy Hagadorn rounded the corner of the hall after leaving her classroom, she ran into a tall boy from the fifth grade running in the opposite direction.
“Watch it, dwarf.” The boy yelled as he kept away from the little thirdgrader. Then, with an unfriendly smile on his face, the boy twisted his right leg and imitated the way Amy limped (跛行) when she walked.
Amy closed her eyes for a moment. “Forget it!” she told herself as she headed for her classroom. But at the end of the day, Amy was still thinking about the tall boy's mean teasing (嘲弄). It wasn't as if he were the only one. It seemed that ever since Amy started the third grade, there has been someone teasing her every single day. Kids teased her about her speech or her limping. Amy was tired of it. Sometimes, even in a classroom full of other students, the teasing made her feel all alone.
Back home at the dinner table that evening, Amy was quiet. Her mother knew that things were not going well at school.
“There's a Christmas wish contest on the radio station,” Amy's mum announced.“Write a letter to Santa, and you might win a prize.”
The contest sounded like fun to Amy. She started thinking about what she wanted most for Christmas.
A smile spread across Amy's face when the idea first came to her. Taking out a pencil and a piece of paper, Amy went to work on her letter.
While Amy worked away on her writing, the rest of the family tried to guess what she might ask from Santa.Amy's sister, Jamie, and Amy's mum both thought a threefoot Barbie doll would top Amy's wish list. Amy's dad guessed a picture book. But Amy wasn't ready to reveal her secret Christmas wish just then. Here is Amy's letter to Santa, just as she wrote it that night:

“Breakfast!” my mum called downstairs.
“Today, we will go ziplining (高空滑索)!” my dad followed in a singsong tone.
I put on my clothes and walked down the stairs slowly.
“Hurry up!We don't want to be late!” my mum urged.
I looked out of the window. The sun was shining. When I entered the dining room, I was met with the nice smell of pancakes. All these made me feel a little bit better.
“What a beautiful day!” I told myself.“I can do it.”
As breakfast went on, I struggled with the increasing fear.It was the first time for me to try ziplining. To make things worse, I was scared of going to high places.I had tried to get over the unreasonable fear many many times since it kept me away from having fun with my friends. And I was particularly fed up with making excuses to cover up my fear of height.
After breakfast, we set out in my dad's car.Along the way, the sun grew hotter, and the leather on the seats started to burn my legs while my parents were talking about the sport enthusiastically. But I was still absorbed in my fear. Eventually, we pulled up to a big park where our instructor was waiting for us.
“Good morning!” he said cheerfully.“So, have you all tried this sport before?”
We shook our heads. I got more nervous while the instructor went over the safety instructions and warned us of the possible dangers of the sport.
“All right, it is time to hit the trail (出发)!” said the instructor after we fastened our safety belts. For a moment, I congratulated myself on that he did not note my fear.
“It is a really good beginning,” I told myself.“How happy I would be if I could make it.”

五、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Sara Savick remembers one special Easter when she was nine years old.Her parents gave her a baby duckling (小鸭) in a yellow basket.
“Mum said later that she bought the little duck because she felt sorry for her,” recalled Sara. The people at the pet store coloured her feathers pink for Easter, so Sara named the duck Pinky.
Sara's mother really didn't think the baby duck would survive very long. But to her surprise, Pinky grew and got stronger and stronger. Soon, the little duckling was a healthy duck with white feathers.
“We fed Pinky oatmeal, cooked and uncooked, and small pieces of vegetables,” said Sara.Pinky lived inside the house with Sara and her family. She especially fancied having baths with Sara.Everyone treated Pinky as a family member.
But just when everything appeared to be perfect, the night of the “talk” came. Sara's mum and dad sat her down, explaining that the best thing for Pinky was to live a normal duck life with other ducks. It was not natural for ducks to live indoors with a family, her father told her. He added Pinky needed to swim in ponds and do all the same things that ducks in the wild do.
Sara started to cry, knowing what was going to happen. Sara's parents decided to take Pinky to a park, which was two miles away. There was a pond with a lot of other ducks. Pinky would have the chance to live a natural life and Sara could still visit her.
The big day came. Sara and her parents put Pinky in a box and drove to the Park. Sara said that Pinky did not look happy; maybe Pinky was convinced that she was a human, not a duck.

Everyone was sad when they left Pinky at the pond, even Sara's father. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

六、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
With the limited space for parks and gardens, city planners often find it challenging to include greenery in neighbourhoods in cities. One solution is to grow plants on unused areas like walls or rooftops. It's a popular idea, and now rooftop gardens and green walls have been popular in cities around the world.
There are many benefits of having green spaces added to the urban landscape. Adding gardens to rooftops or walls can create a pleasant environment—what was once a grey wall can become a colourful, blooming garden. CaixaForum Madrid, a museum in Spain, is a famous example—one of its walls is covered with 15,000 plants. In other cities, green walls are being used more functionally, to cover up construction sites and empty buildings.
Using plants to cover walls and rooftops can also keep cities cooler in the summer. Buildings and roads absorb the sun's heat and hold it, causing a building or a neighbourhood to stay hotter longer. Plants, on the other hand, provide an enormous amount of shade. There is evidence that growing a roof or wall garden can lower a building's energy costs.
In New York City, public schools plant rooftop gardens that can reduce heating and cooling costs. In addition to saving the school money, teachers and parents love the gardens because of their educational value—it's a fun and healthy way for their kids to investigate the world around them.Rooftop gardens and green walls may require a bit more effort to grow and maintain. However, hard work always brings rewards, and with green spaces, the rewards are plentiful.
