Lesson Plan
Topic Weather
Period Duration 40 minutes
Target Group Grade 4 students are energetic, active and curious about new things in the world. They already have some basic knowledge of English, such as vocabulary about “warm, cold, hot, and cool”. The teacher designed different kinds of activities taking into account their different needs. Such as, task1 is for listening and meaning, task2 is for form, and task3 is for speaking and usage. Lastly, they are fond of rewards for their performances. Therefore, a reward system is established at the beginning of the lesson to motivate the students to learn more actively.
Material Analysis There are eight units in one volume (six study units + two review units; with 6B book includes six units). Each unit is divided into A\B\C parts. All of them are printed in color and have cartoons, making them very suitable for young students. The lesson design is based on Unit 3, Book 4B, PEP version Primary English Textbook. The topic of this unit is weather, which is about the descriptions of the categories of weather. In the previous lesson, they have already learned some words related to the topic, such as degree, cold, warm... And this lesson is intended to guide them to learn the vocabulary of weather. The topic and language in this unit are closely related to the students’ daily life, so it is quite easy for them to understand.

Reflection In the design of this lesson, I first used a song as a warm-up to get the students' attention. In addition, in order to make it easier for the students to learn, I used the popular game "Traveling Frog" to present the new words. At the same time, the sounds of wind and rain heard in students' lives are used in teaching. This allows the knowledge to be connected to the students' lives. And different teaching activities are designed for different needs of students. According to the philosophy of Holistic Learning, this lesson is designed to not only teach students new vocabulary, but also to enable them to have a better understanding of China and have a general idea of the weather in each place. And during the activity, students can form the habit of checking the weather forecast before going out. However, there are still some parts that need improvement. The pronunciation of some of the words still needs more practice and is not yet accurate enough. And the instruction of the presented vocabulary is not fluent enough. I can watch some excellent teaching videos and learn how other teachers connect.
