Lesson Plan
Topic Meet my family
Period Duration 35 minutes
Students Analysis Grade 4 students are energetic, active and curious about new things in the world. They already have some basic knowledge of English, such as vocabulary about family (father, mother, sister, brother). They are easily distracted. Therefore, the teacher used a lot of photos and some videos to catch their attention. Lastly, they are fond of rewards for their performances. Therefore, a reward system is established at the beginning of the lesson to motivate the students to learn more actively.
Textbook Analysis There are eight units in one volume (six study units + two review units; with 6B book includes six units). Each unit is divided into A\B\C parts. All of them are printed in color and have cartoons, making them very suitable for young students. The lesson design is based on Unit 6, Book 4A, PEP version Primary English Textbook. The topic of this unit is family, which is about the descriptions of different names for family members. In the previous lesson, they have already learned some words related to the topic, such as father, mother, sister, brother. And this lesson is intended to guide them to learn the vocabulary of other family members. The topic and language in this unit are closely related to the students’ daily life, so it is quite easy for them to understand.
