Unit 12 Life is full of the unexpected.
Period 3 (3a-3c)
Ⅰ Teaching Aims:
To learn some new words and phrases;

Step 1 Revision
Review Mary’s bad morning. Ask them to retell the story one by one. Call their attention to using the new target language- the Past Perfect Tense.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Look at the picture and the title in 3a. Let them guess
What may this passage talk about
What kind of disasters do you know
Let them discuss freely. Present some new words.
2. Continue asking: What events does the writer mention
Encourage them to find out the answer as quickly as possible.
3. Show some pictures about September 11 attacks and 2011 christchurch earthquake. Have them try to talk about them according to the pictures and the information which are shown on the screen.
Step 3 Reading
1. Read the passage again, design some questions. Show them on the back blackboard.
While they are writing, the teacher can teach the others how to find out the answers quickly and correctly. Pay more attention to the details.
Then invite some students to answer these questions. Then check them in front of class. Give some explanations if necessary.
2. Try to find out some new phrases. Play the recorder to help them do it easily. Ask some students to share their findings.
3, Read the passage again and fill in the blanks.
Step 4 Further Talk
Present the question: Was the writer lucky or unlucky Why
Encourage them to share their opinions.Then tell them everything has two sides and life is always perfect. So we should look at things with an active heart.
Step 5 Summary
Retell the story by the given words.
Do some exercises to review the new target language.
