Lingling: Yes, about sixty.
Betty: Where did you get them
Lingling: Most of them are presents. People often give me fans as presents because
they know I like them. Do you collect anything
Betty: Yes, I collect coins and notes, you know, like British pounds and US dollars.
Lingling: Coins They must be really valuable. Can I see them
Betty: Sure! I’ll show you my stamps too. I’ve collected stamps from all over the world. I’ve
learned a lot about those countries through them.
Tony: My hobby doesn’t cost as much as yours – I collect tickets, bus tickets and train tickets!
Betty: You can’t do anything with old tickets!
Tony: I know, but when I look at them, I remember some wonderful places.
Lingling: Right! Their value isn’t always important. People sometimes collect things
just to remember something important in their lives.
Let’s listen!
What benefits(好处) does your hobby or interest bring to you
Let’s discuss!
relax ourselves
have a colorful life
grow as a better person
learn new skills
increase our knowledge
build up our confidence
enlarge our social circle (扩大社交圈)
expand our vision (开拓视野)
see things from different angles (从不同视角看待问题)
Many students have hobbies, such as reading, painting, growing vegetables and looking after animals. Some hobbies are relaxing and others are active. Hobbies can make us grow as a person, develop our interests and help us learn new skills.
I read my first book at the age of four. The book was simple. As I read, I felt something bursting out from my chest(胸膛). I didn’t know what it was. It might be joy, or curiosity ,or even a sense of satisfaction. But there was one thing that I did know. I had fallen in love with books.
As I became older, I got to know more of them. Fairy tales written by Andersen led me into a world of magic and fairies. When I was having fun with Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White, I learned to be brave and optimistic. I followed Tom Sawyer’ s foot steps and experienced his adventure while I was reading Mark Twain‘s novels. Happiness and laughter surrounded(围绕着)me when I was reading his works. I cried when I read about Kong Yiji’ s harsh (艰苦的)life. From Lu Xun’ s articles, I saw the dark side of the old society.
As I lost myself in the ocean of books, I grew up little by little. For me, the luckiest thing in my life is having books, my life-long friends. With their support, I believe my life will always be a meaningful journey! When we insist on our hobbies, we may get something beyond our imagination!
