I. Teaching objectives
1. Knowledge objectives
Be able to describe different feelings about different things.
2. Ability objectives
Be able to make up possible endings to fairy tales.
3. Moral objectives
According to the new standard of English curriculum, moral education plays an important role in language teaching. In this unit, through all kinds of teaching activities, let students to have right ideas about happiness.
II. Teaching key points and difficulties
Describe feelings with the help of some adjectives properly.
III. Analysis of teaching material
The central idea of Go for It is to challenge students to gain communicative competence in the study of the culture of this language. Each unit is divided into two parts, they are section A and section B. Section B’s aim is to enhance the use of the basic language. In section B of this unit, that’s the use of “make” . Students are supposed to use “make” to express feelings.
IV. Students analysis
Most of the students are aged 15. They are active, talkative and creative with strong abilities of memorizing, imitating and performing. So I’ll provide real contexts, various tasks and challenging activities. The purpose is to motivate students’ learning enthusiasm and cooperative spirit.
V. Teaching methods and media
Task-based teaching method and PPT are used in this class.
VI. Teaching procedure
Step I: Revision & Leading-in
Make students present the homework in class: play the fairy tale The Shirt of a Happy Man(Part I)
Step II: Group work—The possible endings to the story(1a)
1. Read the instructions to the class. Get students to understand the given endings, make their own choices and give the reasons.
2. Talk about their choices.
Step III: Free talk—Other possible endings to the story(1b)
1. Talk about the other possible endings of the story freely.
2. Share ideas and give the reasons together.
Step IV: Listening practice—Check the things of the story(1c)
1. Read the instructions to the class. Invite one student to read the possible things to the whole class.
2. Play the recording. Students listen and make their own choices.
3. Check the answers.
Step V: Listening practice—Questions about the story(1d)
1. Read the instructions and the questions to the whole class.
2. Play the recording once or twice to help students answer the questions.
3. Check the answers together.
4. Exercise: Fill in blanks to retell the story.
Step VI: Pair work&Group work—Your ideas about happiness(1e)
1. Pair work: Do you agree with the poor man’s thoughts about happiness Why or why not
2. Share the answers together.
3. Group work: Are you happy What makes you happy Ask students to make a tree of happiness.
4. Ask one of the students as a reporter to make a survey about other students during the group work.
5. As students work, walk around the room offering help as needed.
6. Share the answers together. Ask the reporter to talk about the results of the survey.
