Once upon a time, a boy was walking through a forest when he found a big blackboard hanging on an old tree. There was also a box of chalk (粉笔)beside the blackboard. The boy took a piece of chalk and started to draw on the board: first a tree, then a rabbit, then a flower...
Whenever he finished drawing a picture, it came to life and jumped out of the blackboard. He couldn’t believe his eyes. Very soon, the place became a wonderful green forest, full of animals playing happily.
Excitedly, the boy also drew his parents, brothers and sisters who were enjoying a picnic, with their sandwiches and cold meat. He also drew the paper plates and the empty bottles that he and his family threw on the ground when they had a picnic before. But when the rubbish came to life, something terrible happened: around every paper plate and every empty bottle, the forest turned grey, and the grey started spreading(传播) (everywhere quickly to the grass, to the flowers, to the animals...then the boy realized(意识到)it was all because of the rubbish, so he ran through the forest and cleaned the blackboard. The forest turned green again, and the animals played together for the rest of the day.

At this time, a deep voice said, “ if a breeze (微风) can cross the desert, so can a river.” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, “that’s because a breeze can fly, but I can’t.”
“That’s because you can’t give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate (蒸发) into the breeze, and it can take you across.” said the desert.
“Give up what I am now No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea.
“The breeze can carry the vapor (水蒸汽) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again.” said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature never changes.”

In nearly every language, two words rhyme with each other when they have the same ending sound, like “think” and “pink”. The last word in each of the lines of a poem does not have to have a rhyming sound. But many of them do. Two lines of poetry that rhyme with each other at the end are called a rhyming couplet(对句).
Writing rhyming poetry can be difficult because you need to choose words that not only rhyme, but have meaning too. Even though some poems are short, you have to think extra long about which words to choose. Here is an example of a short poem.
He was only a bug, but he was the king.
She smiled at him when he gave her a ring.
He forgot to be careful of one little thing.
His queen was a bee, and she could sting.
If you love singing, it will not be difficult for you to find rhymes in lyrics(歌词) in both English and Chinese songs. Rhymes can make the songs sound more beautiful. Sometimes we may find a song lyric is just a poem. So perhaps we can say a lyricist of songs must be a poet.
( )8. What does it mean when two words rhyme
A. They must have the same meaning. B. They must have the same letters.
C. They must have the same sound at the end. D. They must have the same rhyming couplet.
( )9. Which two words rhyme with each other in the given short poem

( )11. According to the passage, we can know_________.
A. A lyricist can write beautiful poems
B. We can hardly find rhymes in words of songs
C. Rhyming happens in only English and Chinese
D. The last word in each line of a poem must rhyme with each other

Are there Harry Porter books in your school library Many kids all over the world are reading J. K. Rowling’s books in school. But some parents think their children shouldn’t be able to find those and other books in school libraries.
Should some books be kept away from school libraries All over the country, schools are discussing the question.
Yes! Some Books Should Be Banned from School Libraries!
Many parents believe that books with violence(暴力) or bad words shouldn’t be in school. Some parents want the Harry Potter books to be out of school because there are fights and magic(魔法).
Most parents know what’s good for kids. They have a right to decide which books should or should not be in school libraries. If parents don’t have time to find out everything their kids read, they should trust school to do that for them.
Books should meet certain standards(标准) before they are put in schools. Is this a good book for kids to read Is it full of violence Does it have bad words or ideas kids should not learn about If a book is not good for all kids, it should not be in a school library.
No! Books Should Not Be Banned from School Libraries!
Many people say that it’s the parents' job, not the school’s job, to check out what their kids are reading. Parents should also decide what their own kids read. If they don’t like a book, they should not let their kids read it. For example, kids can be stopped from reading stories like the Harry Potter series(系列) if their parents don’t think they’re OK.
Many schools let kids borrow these books if they have a paper with a parent’s name. That works fine. A parent doesn’t write down his name on the paper if he or she doesn’t want the child to read the book. Other kids can read the books if they have the paper.
Some books are not OK for all kids to read. But if more parents were careful about what their own kids read, they wouldn’t have to ban books from the library.
( )12.Parents think that their kids shouldn’t read Harry Potter books ______________.
A. because there are bad stories B. because there are interesting ideas
C. because there are wrong words D. because there is too much violence
( )13.To borrow books like Harry Potter series, kids should ______________.
A. ask teachers for help B. pay some money themselves
C. have a paper with a parent’s name D. make sure their parents like the books
( )14.What does the writer mean by saying “banned” in the third paragraph
A. We should talk about different books in libraries.
B. We should stop reading books in school libraries.
C. We shouldn’t throw J.K. Rowing’s books away.
D. We shouldn’t have some books in school libraries.
