At first, it was a festival for tribes worshiping dragon totem in ancient Baiyue area (the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the South). Before the Spring and Autumn period, there was a custom of holding tribal totem sacrifice in the form of dragon boat race. Later, in the state of Chu in the Warring States period, due to the poet Qu Yuan committed suicide on that day by jumping into the Miluo River with a stone in his arms. In order to establish the label of loyalty and patriotism, the rulers took the Dragon Boat Festival as a festival to commemorate Qu Yuan.

Tying silk thread
It is said that children wearing five colored threads can avoid the harm of poisonous insects such as snakes and scorpions; Throwing it into the river means letting the river wash away the plague and disease, so that children can keep healthy.
Drawing on forehead
The custom of daubing Realgar on children's forehead during the Dragon Boat Festival can drive away poisonous insects. The typical method is to use realgar wine to draw the word "King" on children's forehead. Firstly, realgar is used to expel poison, and secondly, the tiger ("the king" looks like a tiger, and the tiger is the king of animals) is used to suppress evil.

Incense bags are also called sachets, purse, etc. They are wrapped with five-color silk thread and sewn with rags. They contain spices and are worn on the chest. They smell fragrant. The contents of these carry-on bags have changed several times, from sweat sucking clam powder, copper coins and insect repellent realgar powder to perfume sachets.

The production is becoming more and more exquisite; and it has become a unique folk art of the Dragon Boat Festival.
