Hanshi
Festival
Hanshi festival is also named no-fire day, or cold food festival. It is an old festical of more than 2,600 years’ history. It usually falls one or two days before the Qingming Festival. On this day, people won’t start fire or cook food, so they only eat cold food.
相传，晋献公的两个儿子夷吾和重耳被迫在外逃亡，后夷吾被拥立为晋国国君，便是晋惠公。晋惠公为了巩固地位，便派人去刺杀在外逃亡的重耳。重耳在逃亡中，饿得快要不行了，随从介子推端来一碗肉羹。但事后重耳发现肉羹里的肉是从介子推自己腿割下的，感动万分。
之后重耳在秦穆公的帮助下回晋做了国君，成为了晋文公。晋文公即位后重重封赏了那些随他一起流亡十九年的人，唯独忘了介子推。众人多为介子推感到不平，劝他面君讨赏，然而介子推最鄙视那些争功讨赏的人。于是他打好行装，带着母亲悄悄地到绵山隐居去了。
关于寒食节的传说
晋文公知道这件事情后深感愧疚，急忙派人去请介子推 ，但是他早已离家躲进了绵山。在茫茫的山中，搜寻两个人困难重重，有人向晋文公出了个馊主意，放火三面烧山，只留下一面让介子推出山。 不曾想大火烧了数天，却仍旧未见介子推的身影，火灭后众人上山发现介子推母子俩抱着在一老柳树下被烧死了。晋文公见状，恸哭。装殓时，在柳树洞内发现一血书道：“割肉奉君尽丹心，但愿主公常清明。柳下作鬼终不见，强似伴君作谏臣。倘若主公心有我，忆我之时常自省。臣在九泉心无愧，勤政清明复清明。“ 为了纪念介子推，晋文公下令把放火烧山的这天定为寒食节并且晓谕全国，每年这一天禁忌烟火，只准吃寒食，同时将绵山改名为介山，山上修庙以祭祀介子推。

01 寒食节起源
次年，晋文公带领群臣素服登介山祭奠介子推时，发现那棵老柳树已经复活，绿枝茂密，柳枝随风飘舞。晋文公望着复活的老柳树，像看见了介之推一样。他敬重地走到树前用一柳枝做了个圈戴在头上。祭奠结束后，晋文公将这老柳树赐名为“清明柳”，还将这一日定为清明节。

In Sui Dynasty, people dyed eggs into red, blue and other colors as gifts for friends and children. And people eat boiled eggs on this festival.
People pay visits to the tombs of their ancesters, clean the fallen leaves and dusts nearby, and bring some food as tribute.

Inserting willow
When people go for an outing, they may fold down several wickers and wear willow crowns on head. They also insert willows on their doors or rooves, which they believe could keep bad luck away and keep good luck in their home.
Swinging is a traditional game originated from the Spring and Autumn Period. It is an important element of the Hanshi Festival. Even the queens and princesses in the Forbidden city were fond of swinging.

Qingming fruit looks like dumplings, but they are different in flavor. The dumpling wrappers are made of wormwood. The fillings can be eggs, leeks and dried tofu.

青精饭
It is also called black rice. On the third day of the third lunar month, Chinese Ethnic Minorities will cook the black rice and give them to their friends from the Han ethnic group as gifts.

It is called cerealose. And it was very popular on this festival.
The snail is fat and tender during this time. Thus, people would love to eat snails in spring.
