The Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) is a private art museum. Its purpose is to bring the worst of art to the widest of audiences in the world. MOBA is the largest and first of its kind in the world. There are two exhibition halls. One is in Somerville, Massachusetts and the other one is in Brookline, Massachusetts.
In the fall of 1993, Scott Wilson founded MOBA with its first work Lucy in the Field with Flowers pulled out of a dustbin. At first, Scott Wilson was interested in the picture frame (画框). However, when he showed the work to one of his friends, the friend liked both the picture frame and the painting. Later, Scott Wilson decided to exhibit Lucy in the Field with Flowers at his own house, and what’s more he encouraged his friends to look for bad works of art. In March 1994, Scott Wilson held MOBA’s first exhibition and it received a lot of attention.
MOBA’s collection is growing all the time. To be included in MOBA’s collection, works must be original (原创的). However, MOBA does not collect works created by kids. It has got a collection of about 600 works of art.
