A student stuck a note on his classmate’s back while they were at recess (课间休息) one day. The note said “I’m Stupid”. He asked the rest of his classmates not to tell the boy. The other students started laughing at the boy, but wouldn’t say why.
Soon, it was time for their afternoon math class. Their teacher wrote a difficult problem on the blackboard. No one was able to solve it except the boy with the note on his back.
Ignoring the laughter, he walked toward the blackboard and solved the problem. The teacher asked the class to clap for him and took the note off his back. She told him, “It seems that you didn’t know about the note your classmate put on your back, but you didn’t seem to care anyway.”
Then the teacher looked at the rest of the class and said, “Before I punish you all, let me tell you two things. First, all of you will be labeled (贴标签) at one point or another by other people who don’t want you to succeed. All you have to do is ignore these labels. You have to take every chance you have to learn, grow and improve.”
“And it seems that none of you are friends with this boy, since none of you were kind enough to tell him about the note. If that’s true, then you’d better hope that you have some good friends yourself. Otherwise, you might be the one with a note stuck on your back someday with no one to tell you.”

Qomolangma is the world’s highest mountain. You may have learned from your textbooks that its height is 8,844 meters. But not all sides are in agreement on this. Different researchers have given different results. In addition, the height of the mountain can change over time.
That’s why a 30-member Chinese survey team set out to reach the peak of Qomolangma to re-measure its height on May 6. They took the latest technology, including a global satellite system receiver and a radar(雷达).
It is not an easy task. The average air temperature on the mountain is -29℃—four degrees lower than in Antarctica—and powerful winds blow all the time. In such bad conditions, surveying drones(无人机) cannot work at the top of the mountain. That’s why it’s still necessary to send human experts to the peak to get believable results.
But does a difference of a few meters really matter when it comes to a high mountain
In fact, measuring the height of Qomolangma is about more than just getting one exact number. Mount Qomolangma is at the point where the Eurasian plate(板块) meets the Indian plate. It formed 38 million years ago as the two plates hit each other. Changes in the peak’s height can show whether the two plates are heading toward or away from each other. This can help us understand the movement of Earth’s crust(地壳).
The survey team will also get direct information about environmental conditions at the top of the mountain. This will help us understand how climate change has affected the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau.
8.We can know that in the first paragraph.
A.the height of Qomolangma increases every year
B.there is no agreement on the height of Qomolangma

10.The underlined word“It”in Paragraph 5 refers to .
A.the Eurasian plate B.the Indian plate
C.Mount Qomolangma D.the Earth’s crust
11.What can we understand by measuring the height of Qomolangma
①the movement of Earth’s crust
②how the height changes
③how climate change has affected the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau
④how we can overcome the bad conditions in life
A.①② B.①③ C.②③ D.③④
