Master the key words and phrases
Learn to how to describe one’s appearance and personality
Master the sentence patterns: used to be / do
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Check the preview
Let the students look at the words. And ask them to say out the Chinese meaning.
Step 2 Show the objectives
Show the objectives to the students and ask them to read together.
Step 3 Learning in happiness
Show some pictures on the screen and discuss the pictures freely. Teach the students how to describe people’s appearance.
Show another pictures on the screen and discuss how to describe people’s personality.
Let the students have a brainstorming. Fill in the chart with words to describe people’s appearance and personality.
Step 4. Presentation
Play a guessing game: Do you know who he is
Show two different pictures of some famous people. Let the students talk about their differences.
Explain the usage of : used to be/ do... to the students.
Let the students say something about “used to” from the pictures above.
Step 5 Pair work
Let the students do pair work. Talk about what they used to be like.
Step 6 Listening
Play the tape for the students to listen and fill in the blanks with the right words.
Play the tape again and let students check their answers.
Step 7 Practice
Show some pictures and ask students to compare the pictures.
Step 8 Can you share your memory
Show some pictures to the students and let them have a soul talk like this:
I always remember my childhood.
I used to..., but now I....
The beautiful old days will be in my mind forever.
Step 9 Make a survey
Let the students make a survey. See who has changed most.
Ask students to work in groups. Then report the result to the whole class.
Step 10 Exercise
Let the students do the exercises by themselves.
Check the answers together.

“used to + 动词原形” 表示过去的习惯或过去经常反复发生的动作或状态(现在已经不再存在)。
只有一种形式。即过去式,用于所有人称。
