Meg Hoechlin is an ordinary 17 year old teenager. She goes to school, plays several sports and likes to make new friends. There's just one thing that is different. Hoechlin is not able to hang out with a lot of her friends in person because she has never met them in person. Many of her friends live in far away places across the country. And she just meets them through social media.
Hoechlin spends a lot of time on Tumblr, a website that houses many blogs and allows users to share anything from pictures to text posts. Through the same interests, Hoechlin was able to form connections (联系). These connections developed from following each other's blogs to talking about the shared likes, and then grew into friendships. Hoechlin believes that she gets as much from Internet friends as she gets from her “real life” friends.
Although she said she hates the term “real life”, Hoechlin considers her online friendships to be just as genuine (真实的) as the offline ones. The only disadvantage she sees is that in Internet friendships she cannot provide help and comfort in person.
“We are all just teenagers searching for a place where we belong because there's something about the real world that just doesn't quite fit,” Hoechlin said. Society stresses (强调) making a good impression. With Internet friendships, this problem doesn't exist, as one cannot see what others are wearing, or how they look. Appearance isn't important. Everyone is equal online.
But what about the possible dangers of talking with others online Hoechlin said that the concerns exist for a reason, but they are misleading.“It's a trusting environment because those who support it are smart, educated and safe,” Hoechlin said.“We have Skype, video chats, FaceTime and thousands of ways to make sure who we're talking to is who they say to be.”
Hoechlin's parents feel that they can trust their daughter because they know she is smart. They've educated her about online safety, and believe that she will follow their teachings.
4.Why isn't Hoechlin able to hang out with her friends
A.Because her friends live far away.
B.Because she usually has a lot of homework to do.
C.Because her friends don't like hanging out with her.
D.Because she hasn't known about her friends well yet.
5.Hoechlin likes making friends on Tumblr with those who________.
A.have many interesting blogs
B.share the same interests as her
C.are willing to talk about their daily life
D.can provide her with as much help as possible
6.In Hoechlin's opinion, talking with others online ______.
A.is quite misleading
B.allows people to be very careful
C.isn't as dangerous as people think
D.will cause many problems one day
7.What is the attitude of Hoechlin's parents toward making friends online
A.They don't seem to like it.
B.They are totally against it.
C.They are not concerned about it.
D.They don't seem to worry about it.

A few months ago, Jason asked his parents to buy him a computer. All his friends already had one, so his mom and dad agreed. During the first few weeks, Jason spent a lot of time in front of his computer because he had to learn how it worked. He was really interested in learning all about it and he even started writing computer programs himself.
One day Jason found a website where he could play chess either against the computer or against other people from all over the world. From then on, Jason seemed to have just one interest in life, his computer. Whenever his parents told him that he was spending too much time with his computer, Jason_went_into_denial. He did not think that he had a problem at all.
Then the unthinkable happened: Jason's computer broke down. But his parents decided not to buy him a new one. Jason said that he needed a computer for school, and he promised that he'd spend less time with it. But his parents refused to give in. Finally, Jason felt so hopeless that he took the only way out and killed himself.
Robert Johnson, a psychologist (心理学家) on the subject, says, “Computer addiction (沉溺) is an illness that can influence anyone of us. Nowadays, increasing numbers of people are spending more and more time working with computers. While this isn't a problem for most users, some people, especially teenagers, often use the computer to get away from the real world. This is especially true of shy people. For them, meeting people online is a way of hiding their true selves. In cyberspace, they can be whoever they want to be and create their own virtual (虚拟的) world. But what happens when they can no longer enter their virtual world?”
8.Why did Jason want to buy a computer according to Paragraph 1
A.To play chess.
B.To make friends.
C.To avoid being an outsider.
D.To write computer programs.
9.By saying “Jason went into denial”, the author means ________.
A.Jason would not listen
B.Jason enjoyed himself
C.Jason would turn it off
D.Jason changed his mind
10.What was Jason's relationship with his parents like when his computer broke down
A.Fine. B.So so.
C.Terrible. D.Unknown.
11.In Robert Johnson's opinion, ________.
A.it is impossible to beat computer addiction
B.shy people get addicted to computers easily
C.teenagers should stay away from computers
D.computers are getting us into serious trouble

Many people catch a cold in the spring or fall. It makes us wonder ... why can't scientists find a cure (疗法) for the common cold if they can send a man to the moon The answer is easy. There are hundreds of kinds of cold viruses (病毒) out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn't a cure for each one.
When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. Blood rushes to your nose and brings congestion (堵塞) with it. You feel terrible because you can't breathe well, but your body is actually “eating” the virus. Your temperature rises and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a runny nose to stop the virus from getting to your cells. You may feel miserable,_but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold.
Different people have different ways of dealing with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might eat chicken soup to feel better. Some people drink warm water. Other people take medicine.
There is one interesting thing to note — some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn't have a way to fight with it and kill it. Bodies can do an amazing job on their own. There is a joke, however, on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like this:
It takes about 1 week to get over a cold if you don't take medicine, but only 7 days to get over a cold if you take medicine.
12.Why does blood rush to our nose when we have a cold
A.To stop the runny nose.
B.To make us breathe well.
C.To fight with the cold virus.
D.To lower our body temperature.
13.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “miserable”?
A.uncomfortable B.surprised
C.worried D.frightened
14.What can we learn from the text
A.Getting a fever is a dangerous thing.
B.American people never take medicine.
C.Chicken soup is a new cure for the cold.
D.Drinking warm water may make people feel better.
15.What does the joke seem to tell us
A.Taking medicine does harm to health.
B.Taking medicine makes a cold worse.
C.Taking medicine doesn't work for a cold.
D.Taking medicine helps us recover soon.

参考范文:
Good morning, everyone! It's my great honour to be here to share with you my opinion on houses in the future.
I often imagine what houses in the future will be like. With the development of science and technology, houses in the future will be greatly different from what they are today.
Houses in the future will change their form and temperature as the season changes. What's more, they will be able to save you money on heating, and prevent energy waste. They will produce energy through their solar panels, which can be used to provide hot water, heat spaces in winter and air condition the house in summer. Besides, they change their colour at any time to satisfy their owners.
In short, living in a future house will be amazing.
Thank you!
