Poor sleep can influence our memory and learning. It can also cause traffic accidents! Studies show that people who don't get enough sleep seem to get into more accidents. So get enough sleep and stay safe!

   Join social groups
Social groups can provide support. They might include sports teams, art or music groups. The people in the groups can offer advice and can help each other in difficult times. Also, being in a group keeps your mind active. An active mind is a healthy mind.

There have always been a lot of commonly believed but wrong ideas about being fat and doing exercise. Some people believe they can't help putting on weight as they get older, while others believe that if they stop exercising, their muscles will turn into fat. Here are some more:
I'll never lose weight — I come from a fat family
Wrong! It is true that fatness runs in families and genes ( 基因 ) might play a role in it. However, the main reason is that they share the same habits of eating too much and exercising too little.
I am fat because I burn calories(热量) slowly
Wrong! Fatness is not caused by a slow metabolism (新陈代谢). In fact, although fat people burn more calories than thin people, they fail to realize how much they eat! Keeping a diary on diet can help you find out how many calories you take in every day.
Exercise is boring
Wrong! Anything will become boring if you do it again and again. The key is to develop a balanced (均衡的) program of different kinds that's fun as well as helpful. If you enjoy a Sunday walk, choose a different road. If you do yoga, try a tai chi class. If you like swimming, set yourself a distance or time challenge.
No pain, no gain
Wrong! Exercise is not meant to hurt. Yes, pain is that your body is telling you something's wrong, and continuing to exercise could lead to serious injury. You may feel a little uncomfortable as you begin to exercise regularly, but this means your body is getting used to the positive changes in your lifestyle and the pains should be gone very quickly. If you don't, rest and look for medical advice.
( )25.What does the writer think of being fat
A. It is the family genes that make people fat.
B. People are fat because they burn too few calories.
C. A diary on diet can stop people from becoming fat.
D. It is the result of eating much and exercising little.
( )26.According to the writer, how can we make exercise more interesting
A. By taking different kinds of exercise.
B. By choosing simple exercise.
C. By doing regular exercise.
D. By keeping doing outdoor exercise.
( )27.What is the writer's opinion about the idea "No pain, no gain" in exercising
A. Keeping healthy is a painful experience.
B. Exercise should be stopped if pain continues to come.
C. Pain in exercise can help you to reach your goal.
D. Getting used to pain leads to positive changes in your body.
( )28.What is the purpose of the passage
A. To tell the importance of keeping healthy.
B. To correct some mistaken views about fatness and exercise.
C. To show what has long been believed about keeping healthy.
D. To explain some medical facts about being fat and doing exercise.
C
Tony is a 24-year-old man from the United Kingdom. He often wears the same clothes for many days because he doesn't know how to use a washing machine.
This is not a joke. Tony is not the only young person who doesn't have basic life skills. According to a recent study by YouGov, a UK market research company, today's young people in the UK are less capable than older generations when it comes to basic life skills.
For example, about 35% don't know how to sew a button on and 11% don't understand how to change a light bulb or iron(熨) clothes.
Technology may be the main reason for this. Born and raised in an age of rapid development of technology, young people know more about using phones and computers. For example, with GPS always at hand, young people have no need to learn how to read the physical map. However, this does not mean that younger generations are unable to complete basic everyday tasks. The Daily Mirror (《每日镜报》) noted that as their lives have changed, the life skills that they are good at have changed as well.
The study results show that although only 45% know how to pay their water and electricity bills after leaving home, 72% could help set up a Wi-Fi network in a new house.
( )29.Why does Tony wear the same clothes for many days
A. Because he likes to play tricks on others.
B. Because he doesn't know how to use a washing machine.
C. Because he has developed it as a habit.
D. Because he doesn't have other clothes.
( )30.Which of the following is not found by YouGov
A. Many young people in the UK don't have basic life skills.
B. Younger generations in the UK don't have better life skills than older ones.
C. Eleven percent of the young people in the UK don't know how to iron clothes.
D. Many American young people are losing their basic life skills.
( )31.What does the underlined word "capable" in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Unable. B. Able. C. Disabled. D. Clever.
( )32.The author is to show by mentioning GPS.
A. how important GPS is when we get lost
B. it's convenient to find a place with GPS
C. reading maps is difficult and unnecessary
D. how the technology influences the life of young people
( )33.Which is the best title for the passage
A. Life Skills Are Disappearing
B. Life Skills Are Important
C. Technology in Daily Life
D. Old Generations Are Smarter

D
Tech neck
—your use of technology may be causing you pain
Have you ever bent your head down to look at a screen until your neck muscles hurt If so, you've experienced tech neck. Tech neck happens when the use of phones, computers and other technology causes neck pain. It's a common problem, and it's on the rise.Your neck muscles are designed to hold your head upright. They can also move your head around and even crane it forward for a short amount of time. But bending your head forward for long periods of time can strain your muscles. That can make them sore.
It's probably not realistic to expect people to give up their phones to avoid tech neck. And giving up technology altogether isn't necessary. You can do things to avoid tech neck even while keeping your smartphone.
First you can hold your phone up so you don't have to bend down to look at it. But this can be tiring for your arms. So keep your head upright, and look only with your eyes. Try to sit up straight as well. Slumping(沉重地坐下)in front of a screen can hurt your back.
Also, take breaks. Once in a while, look up from your screen, and roll your shoulders back. If you've been sitting, stand up and walk around. Moving your body will help relax your muscles.
If you continue experiencing tech neck, you can do exercise to strengthen your neck muscles.
Tech neck is a common result of using today's technology, but it doesn't have to be. If you're aware of the problem, you can take measures to avoid it.
