Ability aims: Students can grasp key information while listening. Students can describe and make dialogues about the best movie theater or the best supermarket in our city.
Emotional aims: Students can know about the best person or thing around us. Students can understand that there are a number of people worth us to learn from.
Teaching Important Points:
1. To master the key words and phrases.
2. To learn the basic structure of superlatives.
3. To describe the best movie theater or other places in the city.
Teaching Difficult Points:
1. How to correctly grasp the key words while listening.
2. How to describe people or things by using superlatives.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Warming up and Lead-in
1. Greetings.
2. Talk about last weekend activities.
T: My dear children, how are you today By the way, where did you go last weekend Well, where did I go Can you guess
3. Teacher shows some pictures on PPT and let students know where the teacher went last weekend.
4. Lead the whole class to learn the new words in this period by talking about watching movies.
T: Do you like watching movies We often watch movies in the … Where
What movie theaters do you know in our city …Is it far from our school
(Teacher shows some photos on PPT.)
T: Do you want to go to the movie theater now Let’s go! Follow me!
When we go to a movie theater, what do we need A piece of paper…
Now let’s go into the cinema. What’s in it A big one…
When we watch movies, we can sit on…
In some movie theaters, we can even sleep on the seats. So the seats are…
New words: theater, close, ticket, screen, seat, comfortable. (Write on the blackboard)
5. Play a boom game with students to help them remember the new words.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Brainstorm
T: What’s important for a movie theater
Invite several students to share their ideas and write the phrases on the blackboard. Teacher can give students some hints. For example, let students open the book, look at the pictures and ask some questions to lead them find out what is important for a movie theater. (T: Do you hope to wait for a long time So what is important then )
Then let students read the phrases on the blackboard together.
2. Work on 1a
T: Please finish 1a in 1 minute. Write the things under “Important” or “Not important”.
One minute later, invite some students to share their thought by saying, “I think … is (not) important.” Then let students know that different people may have different opinions.
3. Work on 1b
T: We’ve talked a lot about movie theaters in our city. Our friends Jack, Anna and Ken are also talking about movie theaters in their city. Let’s come to 1b. Can you guess what movie theaters are in their city (Teacher leads students to look at the pictures in 1b and know that those are the names of movie theaters in their city.)
Before listening, let students read the statements together and make sure that they know the meaning of these statements. And remind them to try to catch the key words while listening. Students finish 1b and then check the answers by inviting students in a line to report their answers.
After that, play the recording again and let students turn to page 98, look at the listening material and follow the tape sentence by sentence. Meanwhile, let them pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation and try to imitate it.
4. Try to find
T: Please look at the statement again. Can you find some similar things
Teacher leads the whole class to find out the similar parts of these sentences. Then mark them and tell students they are superlatives. And make sure students know the basic structure of superlatives.
Step 3 Consolidations
1. Drill
Drill the chart in 1b. Before that, invite a student to help the teacher to make a sample dialogue for the whole class.

Then the first line, let boys ask and girls answer. The second line, Group A ask and Group B answer….
2. Pair Work
Let students make conversations about the best movie theaters in Ganzhou in pairs in 2 minutes. Then invite two pairs to present their conversations.
3. Group Work
T: Since we talked a lot about the best movie theaters, let’s make a survey: What do you think is the best supermarket in Ganzhou
Divide the students in groups of four. Let them discuss about it by using the target sentence structure in 3 minutes. And then let them choose one of their members to give us a report on it. Give students an example on PPT to help them.
Invite two or three groups to report. Make a conclusion about their reports.
Step 4 Summary & Homework
1. Summary
Invite two students to summarize what they learnt today. Then teacher makes a supplementary. (New words, superlatives, sentence structure)
2. Homework
Write six sentences to say about the tallest, the most handsome…students in class.
