Students will be able to understand the article by using reading strategies. They will also be able to talk about different opinions about talent shows.

Students will learn to express their attitudes towards talent shows and know something about American culture.
Teaching procedures:
1. Warm-up and lead-in:three judges.
Ryan Seacrest(The host of American Idol, a student came into the classroom and welcomed the audience, waving his hand):Welcome to the show, I can’t believe it. We’re here at a two-night final. Tonight we will crown our next American Idol. We’ll also start at 9 pm. Before we begin, welcome three superstars. They are now a true part of our Idol family. A big round of applause for your judges. Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Katy Penny.The honorable judges are here. The three judges come into the classroom and walk to their seats, waving their hands warmly. The host welcomes the three performers and their excellent performances. singing, the judges will give comments. The host asks the audience to vote for the best singer. The result is up to the audience to decide. The host congratulates the winner and gives him a prize. teacher introduces the talent show and lead into the lesson.
Teacher: Many thanks to these students for their wonderful performances. This is a talent show in America. And its name is... Yeah, American Idol. And do you know other talent shows Yes, American’s Got Talent, China’s Got talent, and so on.
2. Reading
Step One: Put three paras in order and fill in the pad with capital letters.
T: Here are three paragraphs, please write down the right order on your pad. And tell me how do you know that
(Tips: Pay attention to the two words these and however in the second and third paras separately. These refers to talent shows that appeared in the first para. However means transition. It’s used between two paras. So the answer is CBA.)2
Step Two: Match the main idea with each paragraph and draw it on the pad directly.

Para 1 talks about talent shows are getting more and more popular.
Para 2 talks about talent shows have one thing in common. And the last para talks about Not everybody enjoys talent shows.

Para 2 B. Talent shows are popular.
Para 3 C. Not everybody likes talent shows.
Step Three:Find out the words or expressions that have the same meanings from the passage in group as quickly and they can. Then take a photo and upload to the group space.
T: Now ,I think you have known about the main idea of the passage. Please find out the words or expressions that have the same meaning in the passage. You can work with your group members. Please pay attention, as quickly as possible.

Step Four: Read para 1 and find out three talent shows.

Step Seven: Listen to the tape and read the passage silently. Give ss three minutes to help the teacher finish the mind map and retell in group.
Step Eight:Make an interview according to the interview outline. The topic is about talent shows. The interviewer is the host of American Idol, Rygn Seacrest. The interviewees are the American Idol, the judge and a common audience.
