有些人为了要扩张耕地和工地面积,试图把湿地变成农田,变成建筑,可是这是决不行的!因为湿地对我们人类来说是十分重要的。
??? There are many wetlands(湿地) in China and some of them have become the world‘s important wetlands. The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are among them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are home for many different kinds of birds and animals. The world’s largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve(自然保护区) is in them. More than 700 milu deer live freely there. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world, but every winter you can see some in the Red-crowned Cranes Nature Reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands.
The temperature in the wetlands is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too. They are really good places for wildlife(野生生物)。 Offering food and home for some special kinds of animals and birds is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent flood. But some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife.
Luckily, more and more people are beginning to realize the important of wetlands and wildlife. Every year, on February 2nd, many activities are held to tell people more about wetlands.

??? 「答案与解析」
??? 1. 选A.从第1段的句子The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are among them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. 和地理知识可知,江苏省是在中国的东部,故选A.
??? 2. 选B.由第2段的句子The temperature in the wetland is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too.

Do you know why different animals or pests (昆虫) have their special colors? Colors in them seem to be used mainly to protect themselves.
Some birds like eating locusts (蝗虫), but birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colors together with the change of the colors of crops(庄稼). When crops are green, locusts look green. But as the harvest time comes, locusts change to the same brown color as crops have. Some other pests with different colors from plants are easily found and eaten by others. So they have to hide themselves for lives and appear only at night.
If you study the animal life, you’ll find the main use of coloring is to protect themselves. Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests. They cannot be easily seen by hunters (猎人). This is because they have the colors much like the trees.
Have you ever noticed an even stranger act? A kind of fish in the sea can send out a kind of very black liquid (液体)when it faces danger. While the liquid spreads over (散开), its enemies (敌人)cannot find it. And it immediately swims away. So it has lived up to now though it is not strong at all.

D. they live in forests
( )4.Why can the kind of fish live up to now?
A. Because it is very and strong.
B. Because the liquid it sends out can help it escape from its enemies.
C. Because the liquid it sends out can kill its enemies.
D. Because it swims faster than any other fish.
( )5.Which is the best title for this passage?

If you come to London for the first time now, you,ll see a lot of buses and cars on the road, you,ll also see a lot of bikes because nowadays more and more people travel by bike.
There are a lot of reasons for this. First, it,s very cheap to use a bike, and it,s quick too. You often wait for a bus for half an hour. When the bus comes, there are so many other buses and cars on the road that the bus moves very slowly. The underground train is quick but very expensive and often crowded.
I traveled to work by bus for about four years. I often arrived at work late and tired. Then one day, about two years ago, a workmate said,“I go to work by bike, why don,t we travel together?”
“Because my bike is old,”I answered,“and there are so many buses and cars on the road. I always feel frightened.”
“You needn,t worry about this,” said my friend.“If you follow me and we ride slowly, you,ll be fine.”
Although we went slowly, we arrived at work quickly. The bus ride took forty minutes and the bike ride took half an hour!
The next day I bought myself a new bike. Now I don,t feel afraid. I love cycling to work, and I feel fit and well.
Many people think in the same way as I do. That,s why you see a lot of bikes on the road. Who knows, perhaps in the future we,ll have roads for bicycles only. I hope so!

Do you know how to play a game called “Musical Chairs”? It is easy to play and most people enjoy it. All you need are some chairs, some people and some way of making music. You may use a piano or any other musical instrument, if someone can play it. You may use a tape recorder. You can even use a radio.
??? Put the chairs in a row. The chairs may be put in twos, back to back. A better way is to have the chairs in one row with each chair facing in the opposite direction to the chair next to it.
??? The game is easy. When the music starts, the players walk round the chairs. Everyone goes in the same direction, of course, they should walk in time to the music. If the music is fast they should walk quickly. If the music is slow, they should walk slowly.
??? The person playing music cannot see the people in the game. When the music stops, the players try to sit on the chairs. If a person cannot find a chair to sit on, he drops out. Then, before the music starts again, one chair must be taken away. When the music stops again, one more player will be out.

Many people go to school for an education. They learn languages, history, politics, geography, physics, chemistry and mathematics. Others go to school to learn a skill so that they can make a living. School education is very important and useful .Yet, no one can learn everything from school. A teacher, no matter how much he knows, can not teach his students everything they want to know. The teacher’s job is to show his students how to learn. He teaches them how to read and how to think. So, much more is to be learned outside school by the students themselves.
It is always more important to know how to study by oneself than to memorize some facts or a formula. It is actually quite easy to learn a certain fact in history or a formula in mathematics. But it is very difficult to use a formula in working out a math problem. Great scientists before us didn’t get everything from school .Their teachers only showed them the way. Edison did not even finish primary school. But they were all so successful. They invented so many things for mankind. The reason for their success is that they knew how to study. They read books that were not taught at school . They would ask many questions as they read. They did thousands of experiments. They worked hard all their lives, wasting not a single moment. Above all , they knew how to use their brain.

Fire can help people in many ways. But can also be very harmful. Fire can heat water warm your houses, give light, and cook food. But fire can burn things too. It can burn trees, houses, animals, or people. Sometimes big fires can burn forests.
Nobody knows for sure how people began to use fire. But there are many interesting, old stories about the first time a man or woman started a fire. One story from Australia tells about a man very, very long time ago. He went up to the sun by a rope and brought fire down.
Today people know how to make a fire with matches. Children sometimes like to play with them. But matches can be very dangerous. One match can burn a piece of paper, and then it might burn a house. A small fire can become a big fire very fast.
Fires kill many people every year. So you must be careful with matches. You should also learn to put out fires. Fires need oxygen. Without oxygen they die. There is oxygen in the air. Cover a fire with water, sand, or in an emergency, with your coat or something else. This keeps the air away from a fire and kills it.

He began to learn the English alphabet (字母表)when he was seventeen years old. Every day after he did twelve hours, hard work, he had to walk a long way to have lessons from a school teacher. Last Friday, after doing all the family shopping in town, I wanted to have a rest before catching the train. I bought a newspaper and some chocolate and went in to the station coffee shop. It was a cheap self-service place with long tables to sit at. I put my heavy bag down on the floor, put the newspaper and chocolate on the table and then went to get a cup of coffee.
When I came back with the coffee, there was someone sitting in the nest seat. It was a boy, with dark glasses and old clothes, and his hair was coloured bright at the front. He had started to eat my chocolate!
Naturally, I was rather uneasy(不安)about him, but I didn,t want to have any trouble. I just looked down at the front page of the newspaper, tasted my coffee and took a bit of chocolate. The boy looked at me closely. Then he took a second piece of my chocolate. I could hardly believe it. Still I didn,t say anything to him. When he took a third piece, I felt more angry than uneasy. I thought,“Well, I shall have the last piece.”And I got it.
The boy gave me a strange look, then stood up. As he left he shouted out,’’ There’s something wrong with that woman!’’ Everybody looked at me, but I did not want to quarrel with the boy, so I kept quiet. I kept quiet. I did not realize that I had made a mistake until I finished my coffee and was ready to leave. My face turned red when I saw my unopened chocolate under the newspaper. The chocolate that I had been eating was the boy,s.
