The world’s highest highway tunnel (高速隧道) was opened to traffic on April 26, 2019, at an altitude (海拔) of over 4750 meters above the sea level in Southwest China’s Tibet.
The two-way tunnel is over 5.7 km long, which is a part of the 400-km highway connecting Lhasa with Nyingchi. People started building the tunnel in 2015 on the 5018-meter-high Mila Mountain. And it was finished on Monday, helping shorten the 18-km distance (距离) over the mountain to 5.7 km.
It wasn’t easy to build the highest tunnel in China. Terribly cold weather and too little oxygen (氧气) were two main difficulties. Besides (而且), carrying everything for living and building to the site was a great challenge to over 2000 workers who were building the tunnel.
However, everyone at the site worked hard together to finish building the tunnel on time and more than ten latest techniques were created while workers were doing this great project. “We’ve worked here and lived in simple houses for several years,” said Xu Yong, the leader of the project. “Everything used to be so difficult, but we never felt sorry for working here. How do you disagree with or complain(抱怨) to someone in a polite way
Your teacher says Pluto is a planet (行星) and you know that it's not. Here's one polite way of telling the teacher. You can say, "Excuse me, teacher, but I have heard that scientists now don't call Pluto a planet." If you say "excuse me" and don't use words like "wrong", your teacher won't feel unhappy.
And there are times when we need to complain. You have bought an MP3 player. The shop assistant told you that the player also has a radio. You buy it but find that it doesn't. You need to go back to the store and complain. You can say to the assistant, "I was told that the MP3 has a radio but it hasn't. I would like my money back please." This is a polite way of complaining.
We have disagreements (分歧)with friends sometimes. If your friend leaves teacups and candy paper bags here and there, you can try: "It's really a bit difficult to do my homework here. It is a little dirty. Would you mind being a little more tidy, please "
But remember, if you have to disagree with someone, it's always best to be polite!

People often dream of a perfect holiday with white sand, blue sea and so on, but traveling or sometimes even planning a trip can be more stressful. Here are some suggestions for you to plan your holiday.
Set budget (预算). Before working out a plan for the holiday, the most important thing is to set a budget. This helps you to plan and enjoy the trip within your limits (在限额内). Always prepare to take a little more than you might need.
Plan ahead. The first thing you need to do is to be sure of what you want from this trip. Do you want to experience the local (当地的) culture or just have fun on those sandy beaches Do you want to make friends with the local people or get away from busy people and the world Plan your trip according to your needs and likes.
Read up before you go. Before going to a new place, buy a guidebook and read up on the culture, history and local places of interest. You can also surf the Internet for more information. The more you know, the better you will be able to enjoy the place.
Pack light and right. Don’t carry unnecessary things around. A heavy bag may sometimes dampen (减弱) your holiday spirit. Carry clothes that are comfortable and right for the season. Then try to put everything you need in one bag.
Have realistic expectations (可实现的期望). Unreasonable (不合理的) expectations can lead to stress, so enjoy the holiday by managing (管理) what you can with the time you have. Enjoy each moment, whether it is good or bad.

②Knowing the culture and history of the place we will visit.
③Packing light and right. ④Making a plan according to your friend’s advice.
A. ②③④ B. ①②③. C. ①②④. D. ①③④.

C. How to make a perfect holiday plan. D. Ways to deal with our stress in life.

“Ordinary” was the worst word my mother could find for anything. Whenever she took me out for shopping, I found she wouldn’t take any notice of the shop assistants when they suggested that some dresses were popular. She would say, “We’re not interested in that. Haven’t you got anything a little unusual ” And then the assistants would bring out all the strange colors no one else would buy. And later she and I would argue because I wanted to be ordinary but my mother wanted to be unusual.
“I can’t stand that hairdo(发型),” she said to me with a boy hairstyle. “It’s so terribly ordinary ... Not ugly, not unsuitable. But ordinary ... ”
“Couldn’t you please wear something else ” I asked one day when she was dressing for Mother’s Day in tight trousers and a bright pink sweater.
“What’s wrong with it ”
“It’s just that I wish you’d wear something ordinary,” I said. “People won’t laugh at you.”
She looked at me angrily, “Are you ashamed (羞愧的) of your mother If you are, Mary, I feel sorry for you. ”
( )41. What did the shop assistants advise Mary’s mother to buy
A. Very popular dress. B. Styles they sold well.
C. Cheap clothes. D. The most unusual clothes.
( )42. Why did Mary ask her mother to change her clothes on Mother’s Day
A. Because her mother’s clothes were out of style.
B. Because she didn’t like a pink sweater at all.
C. Because she didn’t like her mother to dress that way.
D. Because she didn’t want her mother to be ordinary.
( )43. What does Mary’s mother mean by “ordinary”
A. Unusual. B. Ugly. C. Common. D. Popular.
( )44. The underlined word “It” refers to “_______”.
A. the hairstyle B. the dress C. the boy D. the color

“How are you ” is a usual question. It’s a friendly way in which people in America greet (问候) each other, but “How are you ” is also a very unusual question. (45)______ The person who asks “How are you ” expects to hear the answer “Fine”, even if the person’s friend isn’t fine. The reason is that “How are you ” isn’t really a question and “Fine” isn’t really an answer. (46)______
Sometimes, people don’t say exactly (确切地) what they mean. For example, when someone asks “Do you agree ”, the other person won’t give a direct answer. “No, I disagree. (47)_______” Because it isn’t polite to disagree strongly with the person to whom you are talking. So the correct answer may be “I am not so sure.” It’s a nicer way to say that you don’t agree with someone.
People don’t say exactly what they are thinking when they finish talking with other people. Many people talking on the phone finish the conversation by saying “I have to go now.” Often, the person who wants to hang up (挂断电话) gives an excuse (借口) like “(48)_______” The excuse might be real, or it might not be true. Perhaps the person just doesn’t want to keep on talking. (49)_______ All in all, it is an important way in which people try to be nice to each other, and it is part of the game of language.
I think you are wrong. B. However, the polite excuse won’t hurt the other person. C. This will sound much more polite. D. It is a question that often doesn’t have an answer. E. Someone’s at the door. F. Usually polite questions are longer. G. They are just other ways of saying “Hello” or “Hi”.

Dear Mike,
How’s everything going I am going to New York for my vacation trip next month. I am nervous about it because I’ve never been there. So I have some questions to ask you.
Could you please tell me what places of interest I should go to I really want to enjoy some beautiful scenery during the trip. Do you know the best way to travel around the city I’d also want to enjoy some delicious food there. Would you tell me where I can try them At the same time, I wonder where I should stay during my visit there.
Look forward to get your reply soon! Thanks.
Yours,
