Wilson,55,of Westchester County,New York, donated one of his kidneys, one of the vital or-gans of the human body,a little over two years ago. Wilson donated his kidney in what's known as a non-directed or selfless,living-donor transplant, which means he doesn't know or have any connec- tion to the person who received his kidney. As an enthusiastic athlete and cyclist,Wilson was deter- mined to prove that the procedure didn't change his lifestyle——so,earlier this year,he climbed to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Wilson decided to become a non-directed kidney donor after seeing a friend's post on Facebook, saying that his teenage daughter had recently received a life-saving kidney donation from a stranger. Soon after reading about his friend's daughter,Wilson went for a long bike ride and figured he would eventually forget about the post - but he didn't.
When he got home,he started researching kidney donations. He didn't know anyone who nee- ded a kidney, but he did find out about non-directed transplants.Eventually,Wilson told his wife, Meg,about his idea to become a non-directed donor, and she was totally supportive. After that,Wil- son began taking steps to become a kidney donor, including taking numerous tests and strict physical and psychological evaluations.
At Weill Cornell Medical Center,Wilson had his transplant. Wilson's procedure was an even more advanced, minimally invasive one called a single-port surgery. Doctors removed Wilson's kid- ney using an incision(切口)made in his belly button .
Once Wilson had his procedure on Feb.6,2020,he left after just one day in the hospital,be- cause of his concerns about the coronavirus, which was just beginning. The pain from the procedure was very manageable. After about two weeks,he was back on his indoor bike, training lightly.
Though he's now minus one kidney,Wilson said so much more has been added to his life and that he's had a sense of peace and calm as well as several wonderful opportunities. In March,Wilson and 21 other living kidney donors — all members of Kidney Donor Athletes — climbed to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.Wilson had climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro before, but this trip was special because of the people he met.

Scientists have studied the full genetic information of more than 18,000 cancer samples. They found new information about the pattems of mutations or changes, which could help doctors provide better treatment. Their study published recently in the publication Science is not the first to do such a complete genetic study of cancer samples, but no one has ever used such a large sample size.
Over 12,000 samples in the study came from recruited patients, who were part of a project to study whole genomes(基因组)from people with common cancers and rare diseases. The rest of the data came from existing cancer data sets. Researchers were able to study such a large number because of the improvements in technology that recently permitted scientists to complete the map of the entire human genome.
Cancer is a disease of the genome or full set of instructions for running cells. It happens when changes in a person's DNA cause cells to grow and divide uncontrollably. DNA is a substance that carries the genetic information in the cells of living things, like a human.
For the study, researchers looked at 19 different kinds of cancer in the human body. It identified 58 new“mutational signatures”,or pieces of evidence leading to the causes of cancer.Nik-Zainal of the University of Cambridge, who was part of the team that did the research, said researchers also confirmed 51 of more than 70 previously reported mutation patterns. Some arise because of problems within a person's cells; others are caused by radiation, tobacco smoke,or chemicals.Nik-Zainal said knowing more of them helps doctors to understand each person's cancer more precisely and that doctors could suggest an early treatment based on a special pattern, which can help guide treatment.
To help doctors use this information, researchers developed a computer program that will let them find common patterns of those genetic variations and seek out rare ones. This will help doctors give earlier treatment and hopefully stop the developing disease.
28.What is the characteristic of this study about cancer samples
A.Their accuracy. B.Their quantity. C.Their genetic pattern. D.Their human genome.
29.What is the third paragraph mainly about
A. The causes of cancer. B. The function of DNA.
C. The symptoms of cancer. D. The importance of DNA.
30.How did researchers find rare patterns of those genetic variations
A. With the help of doctors. B. With the help of Nik-Zainal.
C. By means of an early treatment. D. By means of a computer program.
31.What is the author's attitude to scientists’study
A. Disapproving. B.Doubtful. C. Positive. D.Unclear,

Ask most people what the least favorite part of using their devices is and you're bound to get a similar answer:passwords. Unfortunately, the critical role passwords currently play makes them a re- petitive necessary thing in our digitally-powered world.
However, imagine a time when they won't be necessary, yet you can still log into your devices, conduct safe transactions(交易),and access your accounts with the kind of securiy and privacy,in an even safer, faster, and more convenient way than you currently do.
Thankfully,as the result of a major new agreement between Apple,Google, and Microsoft that was announced last week on World Password Day,we're much closer to that new vision than you probably realize .Meanwhile, these three major device platform vendors(供应商)agreed to use a technology standard created by an industry organization called the FIDO Alliance, eventually to rid us of the need for passwords.
The idea behind the concept is simple. You essentially need to provide a way to prove to your device that you are who you claim to be.That is,you authenticate yourself and create what I call a portable digital identity. Today, most of our devices are able to do that with technologies like face scans, fingerprint readers, and other mechanisms that don't involve passwords. That portable digital identity,in tun, is transformed into a digital key that can be used to open access to your devices,ac- counts, payment methods, etc.
Up until this new agrement, biometric authentication,dual-factor authentication for which you receive a text password to enter, and other types of password-less or password-limited forms have been available on individual devices. However, what's been missing is a way to share this portable digital identity across devices, across websites, and across accounts. The news last week was announced that by the end of this year, ios,Android,Windows,MacOS,and Chrome devices, along with the major browsers on these platforms, will allow you to share this digital identity across them.
As with many big tech industry announcements and developments, things won't happen over- night, but the possibility of a truly passwordless digital world looks to finally be headed towards real- ity. I,for one, can't wait.
32.What does the author think of using passwords in the digitally-powered world
A.It is exciting. B.It is necessary. C.It is attractive. D.It is boring.
33.What makes it possible to use the devices in a safer, faster and more convenient way
A.Using current secure passwords.
B.Meeting the need for private passwords.
C.A technology standard created by major vendors.
D.A major new agreement between Apple,Google, and Microsoft.
34.What do the underlined words“authenticate yourself"mean in Paragraph 4
A. Remember your passwords. B. Confirm your identification.
C. Fill in your key information. D. Protect your private information.
35.What can be inferred from the portable digital identity
A. It will be shared across devices.
B. It has been widely used on some platforms.
C. It was created by three major device platform vendors.
D. It was announced to replace passwords on World Password Day.
