Just the other day, I was driving my son to the part time job that he had at a workshop for the disabled. The sky was very dark. A cold rain was pouring down. The world seemed silent and sad with both people and animals taking shelter from the storm. I turned on the car radio for music to make me calm. When I did, however, Karen Carpenter's sweet voice came out, singing, “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.” I turned off the radio. That was not the song I wanted to hear on such a day. Still, the song kept playing in my head as the showers (阵雨) continued throughout the day.
Later that afternoon, I was walking out of the bathroom when I saw my son turn on the television. A classic movie was playing and suddenly I heard these musical tones (曲调) coming from Gene Kelly's voice, “I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling. I'm happy again. I'm laughing at clouds, so dark up above. The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love.”
At that moment I saw that God in his loving kindness had reminded me once again that all of life is a choice to love. Rains and problems will always come. We can let them get us down or we can choose to sing. We_can_let_the_showers_soak_our_souls (灵魂) or we can use them to help our souls grow. We can allow the darkness to make us sad or we can use it to awaken the sunshine and love in our hearts.
What are you going to do when the rains of life fall down upon you I choose to sing. I choose to sing with all the love that God has put in my heart. I choose to share my sunshine even in the darkest days and never let my music die within me. May you do the same.

A.Showers usually make us feel upset and down.
B.Showers can always make our souls totally wet.

Is there such a thing as Canadian English If so, what is it The standard among Americans is that Canadians are like Americans, except that they say “eh” a lot and pronounce “out and about” as “oot and aboot”. Many Canadians, on the other hand, may tell you that Canadian English is more like British English.
Canadian English does exist as a separate variety (变体) of English, with different features of pronunciation and vocabulary. It has its own dictionaries, and the Canadian Press has its own style guide; the central part of Canadian English is full of ambivalence (矛盾).
Canadian history helps to explain this. In the beginning, there were the indigenous (本土的) peoples, with far more variety in language and culture than Europe. The American Revolution changed that. The founding English speaking people of Canada were United Empire Loyalists (反对独立者) — people who ran away from American independence and were rewarded with land in Canada. Thus Canadian English was, from its very beginning, both American, because its speakers came from America, and not American, because they disliked the newly independent nation.
The loyalists tried to remain more like England. These were people whose variety of English was already different from the British. When people of London began to change some of their vowels (元音), people in certain parts of the United States took some of these changes, but Canadians did not.
Canadian English changes only a little across most of the country. The west of Canada was not much settled by Europeans until the late 1800s when some land was given to Anglo Canadians from Ontario and to immigrants (移民) from Britain and some other countries. There are more differences in the Atlantic coast provinces, but especially in Newfoundland, which had been settled by Irish English speakers and was not officially a province of Canada until 1949.
8.Canadian English differs itself in that ________.
A.it's similar neither to American nor to British English
B.it remains to be what British English was like many years ago
C.Canadian newspapers have their own standard for writing
D.special pronunciation and vocabulary are taught in schools
9.The underlined word “this” in Paragraph 3 refers to “________”.
A.a separate variety of English
B.the ambivalence in Canadian English
C.the special guide of the Canadian Press
D.the special pronunciation of Canadian English
10.What do we know about loyalists
A.They ran away from America but still spoke American English.
B.They broke away from American English totally.
C.They left an American mark in Canadian English.
D.They kept up with the pace of British English.
11.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.There are various accents in Canadian English.
B.How varieties of Canadian English came into being.
C.Britain didn't have a big effect on Canadian English.
D.Why Canadian English wasn't much affected by other cultures.
D
I have lived in America's countryside for nine years, first in Michigan, where I was getting my university degree; then in central Illinois; and now in Indiana, where I am a university teacher. There were a few things I enjoyed complaining (抱怨) about in my living area. I'm a vegetarian (素食者), so there's nowhere to go out for a nice dinner without taking a 50 mile drive. I'm black, so there's nowhere to get my hair done without another 50 mile drive.
I repeated these complaints to my parents and my friends. Sometimes it seemed like complaints were the common language in my circle. We all were dissatisfied with something. Back in Illinois, my friends complained about the train to Chicago and how it's never on time; my friends in bigger cities complained about the expensive rent and strange smells on the subway.
Complaining allows us to accept the imperfect without having to take action. We all have great ideas about what life would be like if only we had this, or did that, or lived there. Perhaps complaining helps bridge the large space between these perfect selves and reality.
There's also this: I really didn't want to change most of the things I complained plaining was helpful on those days when happiness required too much energy. But it also made me lose sight of something. I was born and grew up in Nebraska and have lived most of my life in one of the plains states. When I went to the coasts, I was surprised by how unattractive big city living can be.
Complaining may offer relief, but so does acceptance. There is no perfect place. There is no perfect life. There will always be something to complain about. By focusing on (关注) my complaints, I risked missing out on important moments of happiness. Now, I look up into the night sky and see all the stars. And I know that I have nothing to complain about.
12.What do we know about the author
A.She likes driving in the countryside.
B.She is very picky about her hair.
C.She is a well educated woman.
D.She often goes out for dinner.
13.After complaining, the author probably ________.
A.had a deeper understanding of reality
B.tried to make herself more perfect
C.got sadder about her situation
D.remained unchanged
14.What does the underlined word “something” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A.The fact that the author liked the countryside.
B.The difference between small and big cities.
C.The difficulty in finding happiness.
D.The purpose of the author's life.
15.The author writes the text mainly to ________.
A.make her complaints
B.tell us to stop complaining
