Earlier this year, I visited Baluran National Park in eastern Java with my family. This park,
高一英语学科试卷 第 4 页 (共 11 页)
named after a dead volcano, is the only place in Indonesia that looks like an African savanna (热
带草原). Therefore, it is called Africa in Indonesia. You can see deer, large water buffalo, small
mice, peacocks, eagles, monkeys and much more animals.
When walking in the park, we really had the feeling that we were in Africa. This was mainly
due to its climate. The air was hot and dry rather than warm and wet. It was completely different
from what I got used to in Indonesia and I was so surprised.
In the park, you will never get bored because the whole neighborhood is full of monkeys.
But these monkeys are rude and aggressive (好斗的). Monkeys guarded our house and wanted
food. When we didn’t give them food, they would rob us of food. So each of us was offered a
stick by the rangers (护林员). They taught us that when the monkeys were too aggressive we must
lift the stick. And it worked perfectly.
In the late afternoon, we went for a walk to explore the area. On the way, we saw many
species of trees that couldn’t be found anywhere else in Indonesia. Soon the sunset approached so
we decided to go back. But darkness fell about halfway through the journey. We only had poor
light from our phones. And we heard only the sounds of animals around us. It was possible that
hungry animals might come close to us and take us as their dinner. We started to feel scared and
quickened our steps. Just when we were about to reach our breaking point, we saw a ranger, who
comforted us and led us to safety.
In the evening, we talked with the ranger about his life in Baluran. And after dinner, he
invited us to fish with him at sunrise. We really had a great time in the park, and I always look
forward to coming back and experiencing all the excitements again.
24.What do we learn about Baluran National Park
A.Tourists usually visit it for its volcano.
B.It is located in the middle of Africa.
C.Tourists find its climate very pleasant.
D.It is a great place for wild animals.
25.Why was each member of the author’s family offered a stick
A.To help them walk easily.
B.To play games with monkeys.
C.To drive away unfriendly monkeys.
D.To use it to give monkeys food.
26.What made the author and her family quicken their steps
A.The fear of being attacked by wild animals.
B.The desire to tell the rangers about their adventure.
C.The worry about being robbed at night.
D.The anxiety to charge their phones.
27.What does the author try to do through the text
A.Encourage people to travel to Indonesia.
B.Share her experience at Baluran National Park.

Halfway through the women’s slalom (障碍滑雪赛 ) event at the 2014 Winter Olympic
Games in Sochi, Russia,18-year-old Mikaela Shiffrin held a commanding lead over the greatest
women’s slalom skiers in the world. On her final run, she burst from the start house at breakneck
speed, zigzagging(曲折前进) around the poles in crazy rhythm.
Skiing has always been a big part of Mikaela’s life. Her dad ski raced all through college and
her mom raced and coached skiing. The Shiffrins taught Mikaela and her brother, Taylor, to ski at
a very young age. At two and a half years old, Mikaela made her first ski run on plastic skis. From
ages 8 to 11, she worked hard, repeating hundreds of training runs on small hills to learn the
correct techniques of slalom skiing.
When Mikaela was 11, she attended the Burke Mountain Academy, a Vermont boarding
school for skiers. She took classes, studied, and practiced her skiing crazily. According to Burke
Mountain Academy headmaster Kirk Dwyer, “What separated Mikaela from others was the
degree of her effort to be the best. Her commitment to conditioning, getting proper sleep, eating
correctly, doing the drills, and watching video was unusual for an 11-to 13-year-old. Mikaela
practiced more than anyone and believed in herself then and now.”
By the time she was 17, she had already won her first World Cup race.
For Mikaela, working hard is a full-time job. Even her off-season is work time. In the
summer, when Mikaela is off the ski slopes and in the gym, her daily training consists of six to
seven hours of weight lifting core body work, and biking to improve her strength and flexibility.
She does all of this so that she can dash down a mountain at speeds topping 50 miles per hour
while cutting back and forth around gates with astonishing precision.
“If you’re passionate about your goals, whatever they are,” she says, “there’s no limit to
what you can achieve. Give it your all!”
28.What can we learn from paragraph 2
A.Mikaela came from a skiing family. B.Mikaela’s mother taught her to ski first.

The mom had died when the rescuers found her after the terrible earthquake. She was
covered by a destroyed house. Through gaps (缝隙) of those ruins, the rescuers could see her last
posture (姿势).It was something like an ancient person who was kowtowing (叩头),but it just

When you’re meeting someone for the first time, you want to leave him or her a good
impression. ___36___ However, it’s not just your mouth doing the talking — the way you hold
yourself is just as important. Here are some tips on body language to show positivity and kindness

show that you’re really absorbing what she is saying. ___37___ If you turn up the corners of your
mouth but your eyes stay the same, you could come off as insincere.
___38___ Don’t be obvious, but try to match her body language and facial expression. By

even been shown to increase a person’s good will toward the person mirroring her. If she’s
leaning on a wall, lean on the wall. If she has crossed her arms, cross your arms. ___39___
Laugh truly. Even if you’re in a formal setting, if the other person has clearly said something
that was intended to raise a laugh, laugh! ___40___ And this can also show her that you’re
listening to what she is saying. Avoid laughing out of nerves or because you have nothing to say.

It was time to go home.“Remember to work on your class speeches for homework,” Miss
Walker called as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny felt sick. She hated
having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored listening to her. Once, when
Jenny was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one
which seemed just magical.
Jenny watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a
certain sort of shining confidence .He was just one of those people who were good at everything.
高一英语学科试卷 第 10 页(共 11 页)
Jenny sighed. As she turned the corner, she saw Lee's watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jenny knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn't want to run after
him. Jenny bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jenny put it
on almost without thinking, she was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and
started practising her speech. Words just flooded on her“I'm going to talk about swimming.I have
been lucky.I've won lots of competitions. But when I'm in a Race I'm not really thinking about
winning. I'm just loving the feeling of being in the water..." Jenny laughed win excitement. She
walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back
to the mirror, Jenny saw a fash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed
almost magical. So maybe Lee's watch really did have something magic about it.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker asked who was going to be brave and go
first. Nobody moved.Jenny slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Walker could say anything, there
was a shout from behind "She's stolen my watch!" Lee said angrily,“It went missing at school
yesterday.”

words. I've also learned some grammar knowledge, which helps me write English articles better.
Besides, my ability of English listening and speaking has been improved, and so has my reading

believe.“But I saw you wearing it yesterday,” Miss Walker gently reminded him. For a moment
Lee remained silent and then he apologised he had just remembered that. Jenny was relieved
saying she had found it on the way home and decided to return it after the speech. Everybody
was puzzled and asked why. Jenny again was speechless.
Paragraph 2:
Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny's speech first. Jenny walked
slowly to the front. She couldn't think properly. All round her, a sea of faces was watching. She
felt so frightened and the watch didn't seem magical at all. Suddenly she saw Miss Walker's
encouraging eyes. Jenny took a deep breath.“I'm going to talk about swimming...” Ten minutes
later the whole class stood up applauding Jenny's wonderful speech. Jenny smiled as she
