Sundays, I walk to the supermarket. Mother hands me the grocery list and puts money in my pocket, hoping it will be enough. She's had a hard day, and I've had a hard week. Nothing out of the ordinary happens when I get to the store. I grab the bread, some milk, and other things on the list. As I turn to head out, I see a beautiful dress in the window. I turn away, bitter that I could never own such a dress.
Outside, I cannot stop thinking about that pretty dress. It's not fair that I can never have what I want. I work so hard to help my family and yet I get nothing in return, just another list to do. In my anger, I fail to realize the apples are rolling across the road. Suddenly, I see a pair of hands, offering me an apple. Looking up, I see the tanned (晒黑的) face of this stranger. His clothes are mismatched, borrowed or stolen. But his eyes are soft and kind.
“Thanks,” I say. No other words are spoken as he continues to help me. I tell him “thank you” one more time and am on my way because I have many other things to finish. Suddenly, he says,“Have a good day, ma'am.” And then he gives me the biggest smile I have ever seen. Right then, he looks years younger — and I feel a fool.
Look at me, feeling sorry for myself because I don't get what I want! Do I not think others are in the same boat, or worse There are worse things than not having a beautiful dress.
My mother will hand me the list today. I will make the same journey and probably see something I want but cannot have. But before I start to feel sorry for myself, I will remember the kind stranger with the big smile, and I will grab the last item, and check out.

Some years ago, a 28 year old Californian wife and mother of three children died from drinking too much water. Her body was found in her home shortly after she took part in a water drinking contest that was held by a local radio show. Called “Hold Your Wee For A Wii”, the contest organizers promised a free Wii video game machine to those who drank the most water without going to the bathroom. The woman who died drank about 2 gallons of water during the contest. When she and other participants complained of discomfort and showed signs of pains, they were laughed at by the organizers.
This tragic news story shows the importance of understanding why drinking too much water can be dangerous to your health.
Consuming more water than you need can increase your total blood volume (容量). And since your blood volume exists within a closed system, increasing your blood volume puts unnecessary stress on your heart and blood vessels (血管). Your kidneys (肾) must work overtime to get rid of extra water out of your system. Your kidneys are not a pair of pipes. Flushing more water through your kidneys doesn't necessarily help it become cleaner. Rather, your kidneys can get damaged by unnecessary wear and tear over time. And drowning your system with large amounts of water is one of many potential causes of kidney damage.
Putting unnecessary stress on your system and your kidneys by consuming unnecessary water is an unnoticeable process. For the average person, it is usually impossible to know that this stress exists, as there are usually no obvious symptoms on a moment to moment basis. But make no mistake about it: this stress is real and can hurt your health over the long term.

A.How water is consumed in our body.
B.The importance of water to our health.
C.Why drinking too much water is dangerous.
D.The function of kidneys in consuming water.
11.The stress caused by consuming unnecessary water ________.
A.isn't that dangerous
B.can never be found out
C.is really harmful in the long run

Daniel Lamplugh remembers going shopping with his dad on Black Friday. “Waking up at 6 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving is what I grew up doing,” says the University of New Orleans film student.
A lot has changed since those childhood days. Online retailers (零售商) have forced many chains out of business. Consumers are increasingly shopping with their smartphones. But a funny thing happened on the way to the future:Most shoppers are not going all digital. Surveys show they're eager for good experiences at retail stores.
This November and December, for the first time ever, retailer websites will get more traffic from mobile users than computer users, predicts Adobe Digital Insights. “We live our lives with a combination of the physical and the digital,” says Kit Yarrow, author of the book Decoding the New Consumer Mind. “Retailers have to understand it's not a question of either/or. Online reviews are one of the first things I look at when I am about to buy a new product.”
“Electronics and kitchen equipment are definitely online purchases for me, since they're heavy to get home on the subway and often cheaper online,” says Michael Miller Ernest, a manager in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Her body was found in her home shortly after she took part in a water drinking contest that was held by a local radio show.
