How does US grow athletes My one year in America has shown me why so many sports 1 come from this country.
In China, students are required to do sports for an hour each day. But in fact, not many students, including myself, take that sports time 2 . I escaped PE classes by pretending(假装)to be ill. PE teachers usually spent half of the time talking to us, so students did not 3 much improvement in their physical fitness in the end.
However, American students seem to have learnt the importance and fun of doing sports and the significance(重要性)of developing their 4 at a very young age. And American schools have a good tradition of helping students 5 their love for sports.
In my American school, we have free time to do sports from 3:15 pm to 6:00 pm each day. During this period, we are 6 to choose whichever sport we prefer, but everyone has to take part in one or two appointed(指定的)sports events. So I choose to play soccer in autumn, basketball in winter and golf in spring. I practise every day and 7 inter-school competitions every Tuesday and Friday. I have not only shaped up my body by doing sports, but also the teamwork has strengthened(加深)my 8 with my classmates.
From my experience, I’ve learnt that only those who enjoy doing sports from the 9 of their hearts will improve their skills as time goes by. So Chinese schools should consider how to make students 10 sports so that they can make greater achievements in this area.

When I was little, I was really little. But my dream was big. I dreamed of being a basketball player. I tried out for the teams at school, but I was never given a chance.
As I got older, I did grow a little bigger, but not a lot bigger. On my 12th birthday, I decided to try a new sport:running. I told Grandpa. "I'm going to be an athlete."
“Dave." Grandpa began gently,“if you can't be big, you can do something big."

“No," he said calmly, "you didn't fail. You discovered something."
"I did " I asked.
“Yes, you discovered that big dreams don't just come true. They take work. If you train and work hard, I promise to wait for you next year and cheer you on."
I trained every day, running miles and miles. Sadly, just two months into my training,Grandpa died. He wouldn't be waiting for my second Boston Marathon. I decided I'd run for him.

One of the most important events in the modern Olympic Games is the Marathon race. The race came from one of the greatest events in Greek history.
In 490 BC, about 10,000 Greeks fought against the Persian(波斯)army at a place called Marathon. It is said that the Persians were ten times as many as the Greeks. However, where there is a will, there is a way. By the brave attack of the Greeks, the Persians were badly beaten and driven away from the plain(平原)of Marathon. When the Persians had run away, a soldier, who was the most famous runner in Athens, was ordered to carry the good news to the city and he was also asked to march at full speed.
Although he had fought through the battle and received many hurts, the soldier at once started off toward the distant city. It was twenty-six and a quarter miles from the plain of Marathon to the Marketplace of Athens, and there the elders of Athens had gathered waiting for news. He ran and ran over hills and across plains. As he went on, his lips became dry and he was breathing hard, but when he thought of the joy of the people of Athens on hearing the news, he ran harder than ever.
At last the elders of Athens heard a great shout and saw a soldier staggering(蹒跚)towards them. “Rejoice! Rejoice! We won!” said the soldier, and fell down dead.
In honour of this noble soldier and athlete, we have in the modern Olympic Games the Marathon race, where the athletes run this same distance. On April 10, 1896 the first Olympic marathon was held from Marathon Bridge to the stadium in Athens. 17 runners took part and the best of them was a 24-year-old named Spiridon Louis, a shepherd(牧羊)boy who served in the army as a messenger.

Recently, our school has done a survey about the students’ health. Here are the main problems.
75 percent of the students are under too much pressure. They have too much homework to do and don’t have enough time to do what they enjoy doing. I think they need to find time to relax themselves and try to make a balance between study and rest.
65 percent of the students watch too much TV in their daily life, and they also don’t have good study habits, so they are short-sighted. I think they should do homework or read books in a correct way, and spend less time on TV or cellphones. What’s more, 8 percent of the students get fatter and fatter because they eat lots of snacks and hardly do exercise.
In my opinion, it’s better for them to have more healthy food and do exercise every day.
In a word, it’s important for you to have a healthy living habit.
