1. I’d rather go to Blue Ocean because I like to listen to quiet music while I’m eating.
would rather 宁愿
常用搭配:
(1) would rather(not) do sth. 宁愿(不) 做某事
e.g. We’d rather go there on Sunday. 我们宁愿周日去那里。
They would rather not tell her. 他们宁愿不告诉她。
(2) would rather do sth. than do sth.
宁愿做某事,也不愿做某事
e.g. I would rather read a book than see a film.我宁愿读一本书也不愿看一场电影。
拓展 宁愿做……而不愿做……
would do sth. rather than do sth.
would rather do sth. than do sth.
prefer to do sth. rather than do sth.
e.g. He would rather stay at home than go fishing.
=He prefers to stay at home rather than go fishing.
=He prefers staying at home to going fishing.
他宁愿待在家里也不愿去钓鱼。
Would you rather stay at home or play tennis with us 你愿意待在家里还是跟我们一起打网球?
while /wa l/ conj. 当……时候
e.g. While she was listening to music, she fell asleep. 她听着音乐睡着了。
辨析:while 与when
while“当……的时候,在……期间”,引导从句时其谓语动词必须为延续性动词,常用于进行时态中。
when“当……的时候”,引导从句时其谓语动词可以是延续性动词,也可以是非延续性动词。
e.g. While they were talking, the teacher came.
他们正在讲话的时候,老师来了。
The sun was rising when we got to the top of the mountain.当我们到达山顶时,太阳正在升起。
John was playing the piano when Mary left the house.当玛丽离开家时,约翰在弹钢琴。
2. But that music makes me sleepy.
make /me k/ v. 使;制造
make sb. +adj. 使某人感到……; 使某人处于某种状态
e.g. The news made me excited. 那个消息使我激动。

Computer technology makes it possible for many people to work at home.
sleepy /'sli pi/ adj. 困倦的;瞌睡的
sleep动词或名词,意为“睡觉;睡眠”。
asleep形容词,意为“睡着的”,可作表语、宾语补足语,指状态。常用短语:fall asleep “入睡”。
sleepy形容词,意为“瞌睡的;困倦的”。可作表语、定语和宾语补足语。
e.g. She slept at 11: 00 last night. 昨天晚上她 11 点睡的。
Mr. Liu needs to have a good sleep. 刘先生需要好好睡一觉。
The baby fell asleep. 那个婴儿睡着了。
I feel very sleepy. 我觉得很困。
She was so sleepy(瞌睡的) that she went to bed early last night.

动名词(短语) 作主语
e.g. Working with you is a pleasure. 和你一起工作是一种乐趣。
Collecting information about children’s health is his job.收集有关儿童健康的信息是他的工作。
drive /dra v/ v. 迫使; 驾驶 n. 驱车旅行 (drive—drove—driven)
e.g. The loud music drove me crazy/mad.大声的音乐使我发疯。
Can you drive me there/to the bus station 你能开车送我去那儿/ 公共汽车站吗?
drive动词,意为“迫使”,其后可跟形容词、副词或动词不定式作宾语补足语。
drive sb. +adj.=make sb. +adj.“使某人……”;
drive sb. crazy/mad “使某人发疯/发狂”。
That thing almost drove me crazy. 那件事几乎要使我发狂了。
His hunger drove him to eat up all the food at the table. 饥饿驱使他吃光了桌子上的所有食物。
4.I think I’ve made Alice mad and I’m not sure what to do about it.
be sure 确信,确定
常见用法:(1) be sure of/about 意为“对……有把握”,其后接名词、代词或动词的-ing 形式, 主语必须是人。
e.g. I hope you are sure of/about your facts.我希望你能肯定你说的都是事实。
(2) be sure to do sth. 意为“务必/ 切记要做某事”,常用于祈使句,表示说话人对对方提出要求。
e.g. Be sure to give it back to me on time. 务必把它按时还给我。
(3)“be sure+ 从句”表示“肯定,对……有把握”,主语是人。
e.g. I’m not sure if it is true. 我不确定是否是真的。
—Will you go to the zoo with me this weekend 这周末你要和我一起去动物园吗?
—I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll study at home.我不确定。或许我会在家学习。
5.Well, the more I get to know Julie, the more I realize that we have a lot in common.
the +比较级+主语+谓语,the+ 比较级+ 主语+ 谓语 主语越……,主语就越……
The harder you work, the greater progress you will make.

have... in common 有……共同点
They have much/ a lot in common , so they become good friends. 他们有许多共同点,因此成了好朋友。
6.Then she won’t feel left out.e.g. The harder you study, the better your grades are.
leave out 不包括;遗漏;忽略;不提及
e.g. You left out the possibility that the train might be late. 你忽略了火车晚点的可能性。
Don’t worry. I didn’t feel left out.
别担心,我并不觉得被冷落了。
leave out是“动词+副词”型短语,名词作宾语时,可放在短语中间或后面;代词作宾语时,则必须放在短语中间。
Don’t leave the address out/leave out the address in our invitation.
在我们的邀请函中,不要把地址漏掉。
The details are not important, and you can leave them out and just give us the main facts.
细节不重要,你可以省去这些,只告诉我们主要的事实就行了。
be/feel left out意为“被遗忘;被忽略”。
If you don’t want to get into trouble, please don’t leave out any small mistakes.
Some children often feel left out when their little brother/sister arrives.
