London sits upon the River Thames in the southeast of England. It is the capital of the United Kingdom, and ---with almost nine million people--Europe’s largest city.
Why is London said to be a great place to start
It is also an ancient port city that has a history dating all the way back to Roman times. There are countless historic sites to explore, and lots of museums with ancient relics from all over the UK.

英国国家美术馆（The National Gallery，又译为国家艺廊），是位于英国伦敦市中心特拉法加广场的正北方向。从达·芬奇、拉斐尔，到威尼斯画派、英国山水画派、法国写实派、前期印象派，直到塞尚、梵·高。所有学西画的画家，到英伦最幸福的事，便是天天啃着面包，喝着矿泉水泡在美术馆中。
目前国家美术馆已有2300多幅馆藏作品。收藏了13世纪到20世纪为数众多的欧洲各画派作品，许多是一代艺术大师们的稀世珍品，梵高的《向日葵》、莫奈的《睡莲》，修拉、高更、鲁本斯、米开朗基罗等作品都在其中。
白金汉宫（BuckinghamPalace）是英国君主位于伦敦的主要寝宫及办公处。宫殿坐落在威斯敏斯特，是国家庆典和王室欢迎礼举行场地之一，也是一处重要的旅游景点。白金汉宫也是与故宫，白宫，凡尔赛宫，克里姆林宫齐名的世界五大名宫。
威斯敏斯特教堂（也译作西敏寺），与威斯敏斯特宫和圣玛格丽特教堂一起被联合国教科文组织世界遗产委员会批准作为文化遗产列入《世界遗产名录》。威斯敏斯特教堂（Westminster Abbey）是世界上最大的哥特式建筑。原是一座天主教本笃会隐修院，始建于公元960年，1045年进行了扩建，1065年建成，1220年至1517年进行了重建。可以说是英国地位最高的教堂，是英国的象征之一。
议会大厦，也称为威斯敏斯特宫，在大不列颠及北爱尔兰联合王国，两院制议会的所在地，包括下议院和上议院。它位于伦敦威斯敏斯特自治市镇泰晤士河左岸。
据说在丹麦国王英格兰克努特的统治下，该地点曾存在一座皇宫。1512年，这座宫殿遭受了严重的火灾，此后不再被用作皇家住所。圣斯蒂芬教堂在1550年用于下议院的会议，以前在威斯敏斯特大教堂的分会大楼举行;上议院使用了宫殿的另一间公寓。1834年的一场大火摧毁了整个宫殿。
