In the last century, different natural disasters have robbed several cultural heritage(遗产) from us. On WeChat, some people say, “What a pity that we cannot see the damaged parts of the wonders anymore.” But people can see them in a new way---through a video game. In this game, the player can travel to one city after another and enter the buildings exactly like they are in reality, and see the wonders as they were before the fire.
Maybe digital technology(数字技术) could help protect cultural heritage better. This idea dates back to the 1990s and the necessary technology has continued to develop since then. By scanning(扫 描) the ancient buildings, building 3D models, as well as measuring everything, engineers can make a copy exactly as the real one.
As computers and smart phones are popular, the digital copy has great value. First, it allows tourists to feel the cultural heritage without touching them, which helps protect them. The virtual tour of Dunhuang Grottoes(敦煌石窟) is a good example of this as tourists can view the paintings without standing near them.
Second, it can make the cultural heritage more famous by spreading information about them through the internet. In 2000, a virtual tour of the Dunhuang Grottoes became very popular at the Hannover World Expo, which increased the number of foreign tourists visiting the site in the following years.
Last, it stores all the information of the cultural heritage. Even if the real ones are damaged one day, people can still know what they were like and can build a new one if wanted. Of course, however exactly a model, it is not the real one.
Maybe we will have better technologies in the future, but the digital technology offers a practical way to protect cultural heritage at the moment.

Located in the southern part of the Yangtze River delta(三角洲), Taihu Lake is the third largest fresh water lake in China. With a surface area of about 2,338 square kilometers, Taihu Lake is a famous scenic spot in China and is well known for its lake, its hills and its fantastic man- made scenery.
Taihu Lake is located in the Yangtze River delta. It crosses Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, where 48 islands, big or small, and 72 hills and peninsulas(半岛) along the lake combine to form a view of great natural beauty. The best place to view the beautiful Taihu Lake is on the Turtle Head Island. Turtle Head Island is an island whose shape is really like the head of a turtle sticking out from the water. Taihu Lake and the nearby scenery will attract you when you climb onto Turtle Head. When the soft winds blow, waves roll and the hills in the distance look like a landscape painting. The scene is really fascinating.
Besides the natural scenery of Taihu Lake, there are many historic sites , such as the Grand Canal (运河) of the Sui Dynasty, the islands in the lake along with the coastal places in the east, the north and the west, both of which are the cradle(摇篮) of the culture of Wuyue (this culture touches on traditions that flow from or refer to Jiangsu, Zhejiang and the southeast part of Anhui Province today) and so on.
Taihu Lake is a rich source of fish. Traveling there, you can taste the famous delicious food known as “Taihu Lake Three Whites”. They are white shrimp, white bait(银鱼) and white fish. The feast(盛宴) is generally prepared in the boat as one floats on the calm waters of Taihu Lake. It is very well worth a visit.

I always knew that I depended way too much on my phone, but I didn't know how much. So I decided to do this challenge(挑战) to find out.
Every morning since I got a smartphone, I've used The Weather Channel App to find out what to wear. On the first morning I had to dress without guidance, but thankfully I was able to guess that the day would be cold and foggy by looking out of my window.
I couldn't tell what time it was. I haven't worn a watch for more than a year, because my phone showed the time. So I was late for picking up friends who had been on the bus for two hours from Santa Monica to Palos Verdes. I was also late for my part-time job. And even worse, I couldn't call people to tell them that I was running late.
Getting to places was harder, too. I got lost because I couldn't use the GPS(导航系统) on my phone. My driving, though, got a lot safer because I no longer had my phone in one hand checking directions while driving with the other.
But the number one trouble was not having my contact list(联络簿). I forgot to write down my friends' and family members' phone numbers before I started the challenge. It was sad to realize that I couldn't remember my brother's and my mom's cellphone numbers. Oh, how I wished to turn on the phone for just a second to look up phone numbers!
Even with all the problems, however, I found peace not worrying about missing a text message or an email.
This challenge was a great learning experience. It surprised me how I'd taken no notice of even the simplest things like remembering phone numbers. We all should take some time to think about how we can depend less on our cellphones.
An experience 1 smartphones
Disadvantages Have difficulties in: ● 2 clothes to wear: it's 3 to use The Weather Channel App. ●Knowing the time: the phone 4 the time. As a result, he was late for picking up friends and couldn't go to work 5 time. ●Getting to places: he was 6 because he couldn't use the GPS on the phone. ● 7 others: he didn't remember any phone numbers.
8 ●His driving got a lot safer because there was no 9 to check directions on the phone. ●He found peace not worrying about missing a text message or an email.
Conclusion We all should depend 10 on our cellphones.

Last month, the artist Christo opened his new art sculpture. It is made up of 7,506 colorful barrels (桶) floating on a lake in Hyde Park in London. Christo calls it The London Mastaba. It is his first major outdoor art sculpture in Great Britain. The artwork is in the shape of a mastaba. It looks somewhat like a pyramid with a fat top. The London Mastaba is about 65 feet high, 98 feet wide and 130 feet long, and it weighs about 1.3 million pounds. The metal barrels can be seen from hundreds of feet away.
1
Everyone who looks at it will see something different. Many will think the barrels are barrels of oil in the heart of one of London’s oldest parks. They might wonder if Christo was making an announcement against pollution. Others will see a prism or giant pixels or simply a shape. However, everyone must decide for themselves, the 83-year-old artist said. Christo said he had nothing special in mind when he created The London Mastaba. “There are no messages,” Christo said. “There is something in it to discover yourself. I cannot direct you.”
“A Stairway To The Sky”
“It’s created a giant invitation, like a stairway to the sky,” Christo said. The artist was standing on the banks of the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park where his artwork floats. Swans are swimming nearby. Some barrels are red with a white candy stripe on the sides. Others are colored blue, purple and red. Their colors will look different as the light changes, Christo said. Their reflection (倒影) in the lake will be like an abstract painting. Abstraction is an artistic style that does not always show something recognizable or realistic.
“Not Really Sure How I Feel About It”
Many people walking in the park were surprised to see the artwork. “It’s very modern, but this place is nature and historical. I don’t like it here,” said Yasmin KocOzcengel, who is a tourist from Turkey. Another person who took a look at the artwork was Anna Andronova. She called The London Mastaba very brave. If it weren’t as brave, it wouldn’t be as amazing, she said. Sheila Seffenson is an American living in London. “I’m just not really sure how I feel about it,” Steffenson said. “Maybe it’s a message about pollution. Who knows ”

When a guest comes to visit, he will get a lot of respect(尊重) and care from everyone in the family. The first thing we do is to call every family member to meet the person when the guest is in the home. Then someone younger in the family has to wash the feet and hands of the guest. Then we put food at the table. Nobody can start eating food until the guest takes a bit of his share. After he finishes eating, his plate will be taken away and he'll be given one bowl and a mug(大杯) of water at the table to wash his hands.
For Egyptians(埃及人), guests are just like a blessing(祝福) in their house and they treat them very respectfully. In Egypt(埃及), if people go to someone else's house, they do not enter the house until the house keeper comes to the door and invites them to come in. Guests of any age will not be different in how they are treated. No matter who comes, young or old, a guest is our guest.
Ashley Jurinka said that in American houses having a guest is “a kind of big thing”. Many of us have had this experience: we lie down in a bed other than our own, perhaps at a friend’s house or in a hotel room, and find it difficult to fall asleep. Is it because the bed is uncomfortable Maybe, but perhaps there can be other reasons.
According to a new study published in Current Biology, a significant reason is what the scientists call “first night effect”. They believe that one side of the brain acts as a “night watch” to warn us about potential (潜在的) dangers. It forces us to stay awake on the first night in a new environment.
For the study, 35 young volunteers were told to sleep in a lab for several days. Meanwhile, researchers watched their brain activities.
According to the researchers, on their first night, the left brains were more active than the right brains and people had a hard time sleeping. However, left-brain activity reduced as days went by, falling even to the point of complete calm. In this process, the volunteers got an increasingly better sleep experience.
The findings suggest that the different rhythms (节奏) of the sides of the brain influence our sleep. When the two sides work differently, the balance between them is broken. Thus, the brain can’t relax and is sensitive to anything strange in the surroundings, just as it is in the daytime.
“At some level, the brain is continuing to analyze(分析) things, even though you don’t realize the analysis,” US professor Jerome Siegel told Smithsonian Magazine. “If something unusual happens – if a door opens or you hear a key in a lock – you can be alert (警惕的).”
More surprisingly, this situation is similar to the way some animals sleep. Whales, dolphins, and many birds can sleep with half of their brain while the other half stays awake.
If you have ever had what you think is “first night effect”, researchers suggest that you bring your own pillow or sleep in a room similar to your bedroom next time you sleep away from home.
