Butterfly Lovers -The story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai
Legend of Butterfly Lovers
In the Han Dynasty, there was a landlord surnamed Zhu. He had a very beautiful daughter named Zhu Yingtai. Yingtai was not only smart but also liked learning very much. However, girls were not permitted to go to school during that old time. One day ,she thought of an idea of wearing man's garments to go to school. The old couple had to agree at last because of Yingtai’s constant plea. In the early spring, Yingtai and her maid all in man's suits set out to YiShan School happily after bidding a farewell to her parents. On the way to school she met a classmate named Liang Shanbo who was excellent and knowledgeable. They decided to be sworn brothers and go to school together. Their relationship was so close that even sleep on one bed. Yingtai Didn't tell Shanbo she was a girl and he didn't notice that.
Spring went autumn came. Three years had gone. It was time to say goodbye and return home. Zhu Yingtai told Liang Shanbo that she had a twin sister, let him to go her home to propose a marriage in the next spring. Unfortunately, Liang Shanbo forgot their appointment and missed the time. The landlord had already accepted the proposal of a young rich man named Ma Wencai. Liang felt utterly sad and got sick severely. Soon he died. Yingtai heard the news, heart broken. She opposed her father's decision of marrying with Ma. When the wedding team passed by Liang’s tomb, She cried loudly and sadly. A sudden thunder-storm came and the tomb split. Yingtai who loved Liang deeply jumped into the tomb with smile. Then the tomb closed. The wind ceased and the flowers were dancing. Two beautiful butterflies flying out of the tomb danced elegantly and freely in the sun.
