II阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项。
Are you looking for your love When you want to impress a future girlfriend or boyfriend, you pay more attention to your appearance and try to be on your best behaviour. But what about your grammar Have you ever checked whether you are using verbs and commas properly
If not, you'd better think again. The research team of dating site OK Cupid has suggested that bad grammar can nun your love, life. It looked at 500,000 first meeting on the site and concluded that "net language, bad .grammar and bad spelling are huge factors of breakdowns (分手)". On the other hand, the correct use of apostrophes (撇号) seems to be quite effective. Using "don't" and "won't" caused better than average response rates, says the research.
American writer Twist Phelan, who went on 100 online dates in 100 days and later married someone she met online, believes that grammar is an important "filter (过滤) system" for expected partners. She says, "Aren't you trying to leave a good impression on her when you want to date a woman "
Perhaps you think you are ready. You go online, look at the picture and start using adjectives such as "beautiful", "handsome" and "sexy" to her or him before you meet. Will it work The research says it won't! The wrong adjective can put a full stop to a future relationship. People enjoy receiving praise but don't when it sounds like a lot of artful talk.
General praise such as "cool", "nice" and "fantastic" gets good responses from the dating site users. Keep calm because many things online are not what they seem; and watch your vocabulary and punctuation(标点).
Some people say that a comma might even save lives - as in the example, "Let's eat, my darling!" is different from "Let's eat my darling!" Maybe the former would lead to a meal with your date while the latter would land you in prison.
26. Usually, if you want to date somebody, you will care more about_________.
A. the grammar of your language
B. your use of verbs and commas
C. your appearance and behaviour
D. his or her appearance and words
27. According to the research, which of the following can do harm to your love life
A. Net language.
B. Too many apostrophes.
C. Using "don't".
D. Correct spelling.
28. In Twist Phelan's opinion, if you want to find your love online, you should
A. make yourself look good
B. mind your grammar
C. date 100 people or more
D. use "don't" and "won't"
29. It is proper to praise people online with the word “_____________”
A. beautiful
B. handsome
C. sexy
D. cool

B. if you use improper words while talking, you may be put into prison
C. different people have various understandings to the same sentence

Canadian writer Alice Munro won the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday for being "a master of the contemporary short story", the Swedish Academy said. Munro is the first Canadian writer to receive the $1.2 million award. Although Saul Bellow was born in Canada and won the prize in 1976, he left for the U.S. as a boy. Last year's Nobel literature award went to Mo Yan of China.
The 82-year-old Munro is regarded as a modem Chekhov for her warmth, insight and enthusiasm, and for capturing (捕获) a wide range of lives and personalities. Her writing has brought her a number of awards. She won a National Book Critics Circle prize for Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage, and she has won the Governor General's prize, Canada' s highest literary honor for three times.
"I knew I was in the running, yes, but I never thought I would win," Munro said by telephone when contacted by The Canadian, Press in Victoria, British Columbia.
The secretary of the Swedish Academy, Peter Englund told The Associated Press that Alice Munro developed the short story almost to perfection.
Munro is the 13th female literature winner in the 112-year history of the Nobel Prize. Her published works often show the difference between Munro's youth in Wingham, a conservative Canadian town in the west of Toronto, and her life after the social revolution of the 1960s.
In an interview in 2003, she described the life in the 1960s as "wonderful". It was because "Having been born in 1931, I was a little old, but not too old then, and women like me after a couple of years were wearing miniskirts and going around," she said.

Living near an airport may increase your chances of dying from stroke and heart disease, according to a study. It also found one fifth who are exposing to high levels of aircraft noise are more likely to need hospital treatment or die from such diseases.
Researchers say the noise may lead to a rise in blood pressure, or disturb people's sleep. The findings, published in the British Medical Journal, come together with controversy over expansion (扩建) of Heathrow and other airports to increase UK flight capacity(容量).
Scientists at Imperial College London and King's College London carried out a study looking into a population of 3.6 million living near Heathrow in west London. They compared data on aircraft noise with hospital admissions and death rates. The result showed the risks of life-threatening conditions were around 10 to 20 percent higher in areas with highest levels of aircraft noise than in areas with least noise.
Study leader Dr Anna Hansell, from Imperial College, said, "The exact role that noise exposure may play in poor health is not well recognized."
Senior author Professor Paul Elliott pointed out that poor diet, smoking, lack of exercise and physical conditions such as raised blood pressure and diabetes all have a bigger effect on heart disease than noise exposure.
However, Kevin McConway, professor of applied statistics at The Open University, said, “Within an area, these studies can't tell us whether people who are most affected by aircraft noise are most likely to get heart disease or have a stroke. So the studies can't directly tell us it is the aircraft noise that is affecting individual's chances of these diseases."
36. What does the author mainly intend to tell us in the first three paragraphs

Does a 600-year-old Chinese map prove that Christopher Columbus was not the first to explore the NewWorld
Gavin Menzies says in his book Who Discovered America that the settling of North America by non-native people is more complex than previous thought; he also points out in an interview with the Daily Mail that the traditional story of Columbus discovering the New World is just a fairy tale.
However, not everyone approves of the theory. Menzies has been described as a "pseudo(伪)-historian" by critics, who say his ideas are not based on historical facts.
Menzies says that the Chinese map, found in a bookstore and created in the 18th century, is regarded as the work of Chinese Admiral Zheng He and shows a detailed map of America dating back to 1418. That would place Zheng He's efforts 70 years ahead of Columbus. In fact, Menzies says Columbus used a copy of Zheng He's map to arrange his own voyage.
Zheng He is arguably the most famous explorer in Chinese history. Ordered by the emperor, he led Chinese ships on voyages of discovery that helped expand the knowledge of the world including the previous unknown areas in the Middle East and Africa. His influence over Asian culture was so strong that he is still considered a god in some parts of Indonesia.
In addition, in his book Menzies even insists that Chinese sailors were the first to cross the Pacific Ocean 40,000 years ago. He says there is DNA evidence to support his idea. The current belief is that people from what is now Asia crossed into North America via a land bridge from the Bering Strait.
Critics of Menzies point out that he holds no degrees or professional training as a historian. But the Daily Mail says he can no longer be called an "amateur" after his most recent efforts.
41. What's the passage mainly about
A. A new theory put forward by Menzies in his new book.
B. The blame on Christopher Columbus for copying Zheng He's map.
C. The achievements made by Chinese Zheng He.
D. A book named Who Discovered America written by Menzies.
42. In the eyes of Menzies, Christopher Columbus
A was the first explorer to navigate the New World
B. copied Zheng He's map to plan his own voyage
C. was the first navigator who discovered America
D. discovered America 70 years ahead of Zheng He
43. Which description of Zheng He is IRUE according to the passage
A. His voyage helped expand the knowledge of the world.
B. He is considered the most famous explorer in world history.
C. The Chinese map found in a bookstore was made by himin1418.
D. His influence was so strong that he is still considered a god in India.
44. What conclusion can we draw from Menzies's new book
A. The settling of North America by native people is more complex.
B. The Chinese achieved more accomplishment than people in other countries.
C. Individuals from Asia crossed into North America via Bering Strait.
D. Chinese explorers may have discovered America before Columbus.
45. What's the attitude of the Daily Mail toward Menzies’s theory

The truck's driver got out of the vehicle and attempted to rob one of the cars. As the man tried to open one door after another, Mark jumped of his SUV and began running toward the man. “ I had to act," said Mark.
When the man noticed Mark coming his way, he ran in the opposite direction. Mark caught up with him after about 60 yards. Mark caught the man but the man broke loose and forced his way into the cab of another stopped truck, sending the driver fleeing.
Mark followed him and got into the vehicle from the passenger's side to pull the parking brake. They were fighting for control of the wheel. After about 20 seconds, Mark heard, "Freeze! Don't move!" Dozens of police officers arrived on the scene.

基础写作 (One possible version)
Little Prince, which was written by the French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, was published in 1943. The book mainly tells us the various adventures that the little prince experiences during his journey from his planet to the earth. In the book the author not only reflects the emptiness, blindness and foolishness of the adults, but also shows his praise for truth, kindness and beauty. Now the book has been the most popular fairy tale in the world, deeply loved by children as well as adults. What’s more, it has been translated into more than one hundred languages, with a total issue of about 500,000,000 copies.
读写任务 (One possible version)
Mark was a firefighter and he came across a car robbery. He fought bravely with the robber and finally helped the police catch him.
I was deeply impressed by Mark’ bravery which had prevented a robbery and set us a good example.
It’s his bravery that reminds me of a similar experience. One Sunday morning, I went to the park with my mother. When we stopped to rest, a young man behind grabbed my mother’s handbag away. My mother shouted for help and a few people started to run after him. As the robber was running past an old man sitting on a bench, the old man quickly picked up his umbrella and put it between the robber’s legs. Falling down on the ground hard, the robber was finally caught and my mother got her handbag back.
I appeal to our whole society to fight against all evils bravely, for both the better life and modern civilization we are now enjoying.
