II 阅读
(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项。

Have you ever had a very strict teacher at school I have. I'll never forget "Mr Grumpy", If you didn't do well in your geography, you would wish to run to the end of the earth and to be far away from him. That tall man with a very loud voice knew how to frighten you. "Discipline and commitment" was his motto. Nobody dared to be late for his class. No chat no matter how boring the subject was. And even the most dishonest pupil would not dream of cheating in his tests.
I thought about him when I read about a new government programme in England to turn former soldiers with no degrees into teachers. They can be trained either as secondary school teachers or as primary school teachers.
Education Minister David Laws believes that military values such as leadership, discipline, motivation and teamwork would benefit children. From next January those who are selected for the programme will earn a salary and be trained four days a week. In two years they will be considered "newly qualified teachers".
But not everybody is happy with the government's plan. Brian Lightman, from an organization called the Association of School and College Leaders, thinks just the training offered to the former soldiers who want to be teachers is not enough.
Christine Blower, a member of the National Union of Teachers, believes that teachers need to understand how children develop. According to her, teachers need a high level of education and much training experience before they can educate the young.
I'm not sure how much "Mr Grumpy" knew about child development. What I know is how happy he was when we did well. I'll never forget the big smile on his face when I got a very high mark. My teacher was no soldier, but to me his smile was a medal for bravery in our war against ignorance!

Jordan fueled the never-ending debate by saying that he imagines playing against NBA legends in their best periods, including Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Bryant.
"I don't thin k I'd lose except Kobe Bryant because he steals all my moves." Jordan said in an interview.
Bryant soon responded on Twitter. "It is a knock-on effect. I stole some of his, while this generation stole some of mine." Bryant wrote.
What's the result of Bryant-Jordan one-to-one game "He's about 50 years old. It would be a hard time now," Lakers coach Mike D' Antoni said of Jordan before laughing. "He's one of the greatest. If not the greatest player, at least, it would be fun to watch him play. That's for sure."
Assuming he returns from injury, Bryant will be likely to cover for Jordan this season for third place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. Jordan (32,292) has only 675 career points more than Bryant (31,617). When Bryant gets over that mark, plenty of comparisons will arise.
As if Bryant needs much more motivation. He ran ked "12th" on Tuesday, referring to the ranking ESPN gave the Lakers out of 15 Western Conference teams.
Injuries to both Steve Nash and Steve Blake last season made the Lakers expose in the backcourt. The Lakers also added Farmar after his play as a critical reserve in the Lakers: championship seasons.
"There will be room for all three of them, " D' Antoni said. D' Antoni hopes to limit Nash's minutes in certain games to preserve the .39-year-old's body, but he hasn't dealt with details. Blake, Farmar and even Nick Young could see time at shooting guard, depending on when Bryant's injury heals.

Learning to express yourself in a foreign language can be challenging because of the complexity of a different language's rhythm and grammar. Using music is a great way to help you learn a foreign language.
Keep in mind that many languages are related to language families, such as the Romance languages and Germanic languages. Languages within the same family often have something in common, which makes it easier for a learner to learn.
Set your background music. Studying certain music can help improve your ability to retain information. This is not just limited to Mozart's music.
Find music in your chosen language, particularly children's music. Children's music is great because it often helps to teach basic concepts. It's okay even if you don't understand all the words of foreign songs. When you meet some new words, you'd better figure them out and not read the translations.
If you cannot find existing music, set your words to music. Start simply with vocabulary words, numbers and the alphabet. The alphabet song can be used for many languages and will help you get a better method on how to properly pronounce the letters and sounds. Try making the vocabulary words you're trying to learn into popular songs that you already know and love, which can help improve your learning efficiency.
Add complexity to your songs. Once you've mastered the basics, add conversation to your songs. You can start with something simple like verb tenses and pronouns - that' s a great way to remember and use them properly. For example, "I play, you play, he / she / it plays, we play..."
A great way to work out sentence structures is to add conditional phrases to your sentences. For example, you could make up a song with, "I play, but you do not play." It will be difficult at first and you'll mess up a lot, but keep practicing and you'll get it. If singing a tune can help you work them out correctly, you will have instantly stepped up your language proficiency to a much higher level.
36. What is the main idea of Paragraph 2
A. There're different language families in the world.
B. It's easier to learn languages of the same family.
C. Learning languages requires different methods.
D. Languages share many similar characteristics.
37. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Almost any music can be used as background music.
B. The words of foreign songs are hard to understand.
C. Singing numbers is 'the best way to practice pronunciation.
D. Learning to compose is useless for memorizing words via music.
38. The underlined word "retain" in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by "________ ".
A. forget B. remember
C. make D. write
39. It can be inferred from that passage that ______.
A. the meaning of foreign song words can be easily figured out

If you're feeling a little down, don't reach for a glass of wine - grab your trowel(泥刀) and head to your garden instead. A spot of gardening will lift your spirits, a study suggests. More than 90 percent of gardeners think it improves their mood, according to a survey of Gardeners' World magazine. It also found that gardeners are less likely to show signs associated with unhappiness or upset.
A study of l,500 adults in the UK found that 80 percent of gardeners feel satisfied with their lives compared with 67 percent of non-gardeners. Gardeners' World editor Lucy Hall said, "We have long suspected it, but our research means we can definitely say gardening makes you happy."
The most popular hobby in the UK is computing or gaming, with 52 percent of people referred to in the study naming it as their favourite way of passing time. But gardening comes second, along with walking or hiking, on 43 percent. And overall, outdoor lovers appear to bring the most happiness - 78 percent of walkers are satisfied with their lives, according to the survey. Keeping busy with any activity, though, is important - of those with no hobbies, only 55 percent were satisfied with their lives.
Professor, Jules Pretty at the University of Essex said; "Scientific research on a number of universities, including the University of Essex, now clearly shows that approaching green places is good for personal health. We also know that short-term mental health improvements are protective of long-term health benefits. "
We thus conclude that there will be large potential benefits to individuals, society and to the costs of the health service if people are able to do more green exercise. Gardening falls into this category - it is good for both mental and physical health.
41. According to the Survey, most gardeners think________.
A. gardening improves their mood
B. they are likely to show unhappiness
C. they are busier than non-gardeners
D. gardening makes them feel a little down

读写任务 (One possible version)
Quite a few UK parents choose to live near good state schools. They are willing to pay more money for houses near a good state school, expecting their children to receive the best education.
All parents expect their children to have a bright future. I appreciate parents spending more money on their children, especially on their children’s education.
Living near a school can help children enjoy a better environment and save time in taking buses or walking a long way to school. However, parents are most likely to fall into debt after buying a new house, as a result, they have to decrease their spending and lower their living standard. Undoubtedly, it will do great harm to their children’s growth and development.
I’m not against buying a new house near a good school if the family can afford it, but parents should pay more attention to their children physically and mentally.

41. A。细节理解题。根据第一段More than 90 percent of gardeners think it improves their mood, according to a survey of Gardeners’ World magazine一句和第二段的内容,可知大多数gardener认为园艺能改善他们的情绪。B,D项明显与文章不符。C项只是调查的结果,不是gardener的观点。所以A项正确。
42. C。细节理解题。根据第三段第一句The most popular hobby in the UK is computing or gaming, with 52 percent of people referred to in the study naming it as their favourite pastime可知,52%的受访者最喜欢电脑和游戏。所以C项正确。
43. C。细节理解题。根据第三段,52%的人最喜欢电脑和游戏,而喜欢园艺,散步和远足的人比例相同,都是43%,而最能带来满足感的是散步等户外活动。A项错在bring the most happiness,B项错在the most popular activity,D项错在three quarters of people surveyed,原文中指的是散步的人中有大约四分之三的对生活很满足,而不是受访者的四分之三,所以C项正确。
44. D。词义推测题。本文重点介绍从事园艺或其他与绿色自然接触的活动有助于精神上的愉悦和身体的健康。因而approaching应该是“接近,靠近”的意思。
45. B。 主旨大意题。本篇文章主要说明gardening等绿色活动能够带给人们愉悦的精神和健康的身体。A项过于笼统,指生活中怎么更忙碌。C项中most popular hobby指的是computing or gaming。文章的survey的范围不仅仅是gardening,还包含了其他的项目,所以D项也不正确。故选B。
