In the Maldives, at the heart of the Indian Ocean, scores of turtles are being found with wounded flippers (脚蹼) and deep scars in their shells. The cause is clear: the turtles are becoming trapped in "ghost" fishing nets that have either been lost or abandoned.
The turtles that don't drown are then attacked mercilessly by accomplices (共犯). The injuries of the turtles' flippers show clear signs of being bitten off by sharks, while the shell damage points to a sharp instrument: the beaks of birds and the claws of crabs. The nets themselves cut through the turtles' flesh, leaving deep wounds.
But what the investigators have not yet found is the culprits (元凶) behind the crime and the motive. "It's OK to keep finding these turtles and keep sewing them up, but .it's just going to keep happening. So we need to try to find out why the nets are being lost," says Dr Jill Hudgins, a scientist from the Seamarc consultancy.
The turtles are the Olive Ridley variety which live in the open ocean and Maldivian fishermen don't use nets, which points the investigation abroad. Hudgins' team has now made a database of more than 40 net types, detailing the net size and the thread diameter.
A recent breakthrough found a net manufacturer's label: Garware, an Indian company. Hudgins bas now sent images of the nets and severely injured turtles to the company and awaits their reply. "We want to scare them a bit,” she says, "and then get their help in finding solutions."
If it is because the fishermen do not have access to disposal facilities, she says, that could be set up. Or if boats fishing illegally deserted nets when challenged by patrols at sea, that could be addressed too. Hudgins' team has also hooked up with Ghost Nets Australia, which successfully tracked nets back to fishermen in northern Australia.

An Iranian scientist, Ali Razeghi, claims he has invented a time machine that allows people to predict the future with 98 percent accuracy.
He says his device can predict any individual's life in five to eight years in advance. He claims the Iranian government, whose nuclear programme has caused concern around the world, can use his invention to predict military conflicts and forecast the changes in the value of foreign currencies and oil.

Being part of an endangered species, searching for food and hiding from predators (食肉动物) are arguably the most important day-to-day tasks. But the red squirrel seems to think his appearance is also a top priority.
While searching for some breakfast, the red creature glared at his reflection in the water and admired his own fur. He then found a nut to eat, but he still kept on staring at the mirror image to pose for the photographer -James Shooter, who was capturing the images of the animals while they were enjoying meals in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland.
The wildlife specialist said, "It was amazing to be able to see one of Britain's most typical species feeding just meters away from me and thanked to the incredible reflection pool at Northshots in the Cairngorms. Without it, I was unable to see two images at a time."
The squirrels come to the pool to drink water every day and improve their own reflection in the water, creating a perfect opportunity for photographers to capture the double images.
Red squirrels have been native to Britain for almost 10,000 years, but they were almost wiped out when the greys were introduced from North America in the 19th century.
They managed to survive only in isolated areas of the north of England, the Isle of Wight and
Scotland.
But last month it was revealed the endangered species were making a comeback (重返) in UK woodlands - while their grey cousins were falling. Research carried out across 300 woodlands over three months in the north of England showed the reds managed to expand their habitat by 7 percent compared with that of the spring last year while the greys' territory shrank by as much as 18 percent.
41. Apart from seeking for food and hiding himself, what else does the red squirrel do
A. Waits for a grey squirrel to come to take photos together.
B. Admires his appearance from the reflection in the water.
C. Stares at other red squirrels' beautiful fur and images.
D. Plays with other red squirrels by the side of the water.
42. The photographers can capture the double image of a squirrel at a time because
A. the water can reflect the squirrel’s image into two
B. the photographers have excellent shooting skills
C. the squirrel remains still when captured by the photographers
D. two squirrels appear at the same time when the photographers are capturing
43. According to the passage, the red squirrel may not be found in_______.
A. the north of England
B. the Isle of Wight
C. North America
D. Scotland
44. The underlined word "shrank" in the last paragraph can be replaced by “________”
A. expanded
B. increased
C. widened
D. reduced
45. The last two paragraphs are mainly about____.
A. the types of squirrels in UK woodlands

请阅读以下人物的评论,然后匹配他们所评论的电影。
46. The movie started out in a completely unexpected way. We met Denzel right after a night of heavy drink. You know he shouldn't have flied. You know that tragedy was unavoidable. But just as you were settling in, the movie took us on a ninety degree turn. It's a pretty good look at real life and what is possible out there in real life. By the way, Denzel was excellent as usual!
47. I was a little questioning when I first heard about this movie coming out. But as I watched it, it turned out to be a great movie. Yes, it's about a racing snail, but it's about perseverance and going for dreams no matter what happens. My 7-year-old son really enjoyed the story of a snail who dreams to be fast. This cute story of a snail competing in the Indy 500 had our family cheering for the underdog.
48. I've watched this new movie several times and it's entertaining every time. It is a pretty good movie although it could have been better if it wasn't about Ironman from the beginning to the end. Maybe Disney should get some new writers. Anyway, my son loves superhero movies and this is a great movie with all the great characters!
49. It is a film about family, how they work, and what they will do for each other. It is better than expected! It is highly entertaining. This is an absolutely attention-catching film. There is so much humor, action and adventure that you hardly have time to take your eyes off the screen!
50. First, I love Daniel Craig. Second, this film is full of action from the start to the end. When people first said that Daniel Craig is very excellent, I was not too sure about it. Through three movies, he has made me a believer. Daniel Craig actually looks like he can do the job. This film I love everything she does!

读写任务 (One possible version)
The Internet is changing us in many ways and has benefited us greatly. But it also brings us much trouble because many teens have become addicted to playing games online.
Indeed, Internet is revolutionizing our lives. To begin with, Internet makes our study and life so convenient that we can learn more knowledge and know what happens all over the world without stepping outside. Secondly, Internet is a platform through which people can communicate and make friends. Finally, shopping online offers us more choices and saves us a lot of money and time.
However, Internet has also brought us some worries. For example, many students, addicted to Internet games, ignore their studies. What’s worse, some students spend much time surfing the Internet at the cost of their health.
In a word, every coin has two sides. Only when we make use of the Internet properly, can we benefit from it most.

41. B。细节理解题。根据第一段his appearance is also a top priority和第二段glared at his reflection in the water and admired his fur可知除了躲避敌人和搜寻食物,对这只松鼠来说他的外表也是处于优先考虑的地位,所以他经常欣赏自己水中的倒影和自己的毛皮。
42. A。推理判断题。根据第四段The squirrels come to the pool to drink water every day and improve their own reflection in the water可知去水边喝水的松鼠会在水里留下它们的倒影,所以摄影师可以捕获到松鼠的双像。
43. C。细节理解题。根据倒数第二段They managed to survive only in isolated areas of the north of England, the Isle of Wight and Scotland可知红松鼠仅存于这三个地方。
44. D。词意猜测题。根据最后一段the reds managed to expand their habitat by 7 percent可知红松鼠的领域扩大了7%,而while表对比转折,可推断出后者的领地在减少,所以shrank是“缩减”的意思。
45. B。主旨大意题。根据最后一段中But last month it was revealed the endangered species were making a comeback及the reds managed to expand their habitat by 7 percent compared with spring last year可知,最后两段主要介绍了根据调查结果显示英国林地濒危的红松鼠的数量在不断增加,栖息地也在扩大。
