Elderly man: Excuse me, is this Seat 12A
Ticket officer: Yes, it is. Let’s have a look at your ticket. Oh, I see the problem. This is Seat 12A, but you should be in Car 9. This is Car 8.
Elderly man: Oh, how stupid of me! I’d better go
and find Car 9.
(The elderly man gets up and starts to collect
his bags.)
Li Lin: Wait a moment, sir! Please stay here. I’ll
take your seat in Car 9.
Elderly man: Well, that’s very good of you. Thank you.

Language points
elder指“年长的(尤指家庭成员之间)”，只能修饰人；在句中作定语，不能作表语；elder不能和than连用。 older既可修饰人，也可修饰物；在句中既可作定语，也可作表语；older可以和than连用。

In 2002, I went to Hong Kong by plane with my family to go sightseeing. Because it was the first time that I had taken the plane, I felt dizzy and uncomfortable. I didn’t want to eat anything but only wanted to vomit. While I was not feeling well, the airhostess came to me and gave me a plastic bag, a cup of water and a towel.
