"From America, madam," said the postman, holding a parcel in his hands. But Mary had no idea who could have sent them a parcel from the US. It occurred to her that it might be Great-Aunt Lucy because she went there about 20 years ago. Putting the parcel down on the table, Mary carefully began to tear the paper open with her whole family sitting around. Inside was a large silver pot. There was also a letter.
Mary opened the letter but found it was written in English. While they didn't know any English, they decided to open the container anyway. It was a kind of light-grey powder. China opened the world's longest high-speed rail line last year. It greatly shortens the time that is required to travel from the country's capital in the north to Guangzhou, an economic centre in southern China. The opening of the l, 428-mile line was celebrated by the 9:00 am departure (出发) of a train from Beijing to Guangzhou. Another train left Guangzhou for Beijing an hour later.
Trains on the latest high-speed line will run at 186 mph with a total travel time of about eight hours. In the past, the shortest time between Guangzhou and Beijing by train was more than 20 hours. The new line also makes stops in major cities along the way, including provincial capitals Shijiazhuang, Wuhan and Changsha.
More than 150 pairs of high-speed trains will run on the new line every day. Because railways are an essential part of China's transportation system, the government plans to build eight more high-speed railways with four east-west lines and four north-south lines by 2020. 基础写作 (One possible version)
As we all know, apart from affecting families and society in general, drug taking can cause heart attacks, high blood pressure and many other diseases. It is hard for drug addicts to give it up if they have become addicted. Besides, buying drugs costs a lot of money and drug users will be more likely to do something illegal to get money to buy drugs. Once you find someone taking drugs around you, call the police immediately and never contact with the people who take drugs directly. What’s more, you should always remind the people around you of the danger of taking drugs.
读写任务 (One possible version)
The first high-speed railway between Beijing and Guangzhou came into service last year, which greatly reduces the time for the trip. Besides, more high-speed railways will be built by 2020.
As we all know, China has the biggest population in the world, which means that transportation is a very important problem in China. The Chinese find it rather difficult to travel around, especially during holidays such as the Spring Festival. It’s often difficult for people to get train tickets.
This high-speed railway plays a very important role in transportation in China. We depend largely on trains to move around. With the help of the high-speed railway, more people will be carried to their destinations in a little shorter time.
However, in my opinion, the prices are still too high for most Chinese to travel by high-speed railways. Furthermore, more attention should be paid to the safety of the high-speed railway.
