第一节 阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项。
A
At the beginning of the year, I had all these plans to travel to different states, such as Florida, Georgia and California. Going to South Africa was definitely not in my plans. However, the stars seemed to align (排成直线) to make this trip possible. I had a friend who was returning there. Before she went back, she told me a lot of amazing things about that country and then I decided that I had to go there.
However, since I hadn't planned to go to South Africa at first, I didn't have money saved up ready to buy the ticket. You can imagine how much a round-trip ticket to South Africa costs. Luckily, while I was trying to figure out how I was going to pay for this plane ticket, I got an email out of the blue from a gentleman from Denmark who was ready to give me money. It sounded hard to believe, but yes. This guy wanted to give me money to buy one of my domain names (域名). The timing couldn't be more perfect. After a few emails back and forth, I received the money.
I have to tell you that I did not have a job at the time. Things might not have gone so smoothly if did. I wasn't tied down to a 9-to-5 life, so I could travel at any time. I didn't have to check how many sick days I had left or how to get my vacation approved by a manager. The keyword is flexibility (灵活性). Having freedom to do what you want is one of the great advantages of having your own online business.
The plane ticket cost over $2,000. I sold a domain name for a few thousand dollars which just covered the cost of my trip. The entire process was quickly and conveniently done through emails.

Five years ago, Darius Rucker made a break from leading the rock band Hootie and The Blowfish and began to focus on a solo (独唱的) career in country music. True Believers recently became Darius Rucker's third Number One country album. He says its title track (标题歌曲) True Believers is the most personal song in the collection.
Rucker worked with his producer Frank Rogers and other songwriters on more than 60 songs before choosing the album's final 12. "The most important thing this time is the songs," he said. "This is the most important record of my career. This record is going to make me a country superstar or it's going to make me just another country singer. I mean, it's really that simple, so we knew we had to do something special."
The second single from True Believers was Wagon Wheel, a song recorded by Old Crow Medicine Show in the beginning. Rucker's version was at the top of the Country Airplay chart for two weeks and its video was nearing 10 million views on YouTube. Darius Rucker follows Ray Charles and Charley Pride as the third African American artist to top the Country chart.
In 2008, Rucker released his first solo album Learn To Live, which brought him the Country Music Association's Best New Artist Award. Last year, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Although Nashville and Country Radio have welcomed his sound, the 47-year-old singer feels he still has much more to prove.
Darius Rucker is at present performing his first solo headlining tour to support True Believers. In August, he'll reunite with Hootie and The Blowfish to perform their annual hometown concert. He also expects to play some shows with the band next year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its first album Cracked Rear View. That album sold more than 10 million copies in the United States, being among the top 20 all-time biggest sellers.

Like many other places worldwide, Indiana education officials recently decided that the state's schools will no longer be required to teach handwriting skills to students. Instead, they will concentrate their energies on teaching students to type. Is handwriting still an important skill? An online survey received some surprising answers.
Handwriting is not a necessity. Students need to know how to read it, but the only time that they must write something is to make a signature. Why stress them more than they need to be stressed? We already put so much pressure on them to perform on state tests. - Reta
Kids just don't write letters now. They send e-mails or text messages. A lot of those old ways are going away. How many bills do you pay by writing a check anymore? - Brown.
Though my son is not comfortable with writing, I bought a workbook for my son to practice his handwriting. Can you imagine being an adult and not being able to sign a document? – Susan
What a shame! I guess it will be a lost art one day, because handwriting is so personal and beautiful. It has personality (性格). - Anna
The school that I worked in dropped handwriting a few years ago. Unless the students have computers in class, they will not be able to take notes at high speed. I had to speak very slowly and stop after a sentence or two because of those who write very slowly. - Helen
The same thing happened here in Tennessee this past year. I think it's a shame. I just received a handwritten letter from my stepmother and it meant that she spent time sitting and writing. Such a letter brought me a good feeling. - Kathy
Children should still learn writing, for the sake of having a skill that all people can communicate with. I certainly appreciate a handwritten note of thanks or news from my children and grand-children. -Ruth
( ) 41. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The popularity of computers in schools.

A. it's difficult for students to learn writing

( ) 43. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. It's useless for students to learn writing at school.

If most of my knowledge cannot be used, there's no doubt that it is a great waste. Furthermore, I prefer the challenging jobs, for they are the best opportunities to examine my ability. It helps me to make greater efforts to achieve more.
At the same time, however, I also think it more important to have a good relationship with people at work.
