It was the 9th day of Wuhan lockdown(封锁) starting on January 23. My parents left because they had been running fever(发烧) for several days You've heard that plastic is polluting the oceans—between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes enter ocean ecosystems every year. But does one plastic straw or cup really make a difference Artist Benjamin Von Wong wants you to know that it does. He builds massive sculptures out of plastic garbage, forcing viewers to re-examine their relationship to single-use plastic products.
At the beginning of the year, the artist built a piece called "Strawpocalypse," a pair of 10-foot-tall plastic waves, frozen mid-crash. Made of 168,000 plastic straws collected from several volunteer beach cleanups, the sculpture made its first appearance at the Estella Place shopping center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Just 9% of global plastic waste is recycled. Plastic straws are by no means the biggest source(来源) of plastic pollution, but they've recently come under fire because most people don't need them to drink with and, because of their small size and weight, they cannot be recycled. Every straw that's part of Von Wong's artwork likely came from a drink that someone used for only a few minutes. Once the drink is gone, the straw will take centuries to disappear.
In a piece from 2018, Von Wong wanted to illustrate(说明) a specific statistic: Every 60 seconds, a truckload's worth of plastic enters the ocean. For this work, titled "Truckload of Plastic," Von Wong and a group of volunteers collected more than 10,000 pieces of plastic, which were then tied together to look like they'd been dumped(倾倒) from a truck all at once.
Von Wong hopes that his work will also help pressure big companies to reduce their plastic footprint.
1.What are Von Wong's artworks intended for
A.Beautifying the city he lives in. B.Introducing eco-friendly products.
C.Drawing public attention to plastic waste. D.Reducing garbage on the beach.
2.Why does the author discuss plastic straws in Paragraph 3
A.To show the difficulty of their recycling. B.To explain why they are useful.
C.To voice his views on modern art. D.To find a substitute for them.
3.What effect would "Truckload of Plastic" have on viewers
A.Calming. B.Disturbing. C.Refreshing. D.Challenging.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Artists' Opinions on Plastic Safety B.Media Interest in Contemporary Art
C.Responsibility Demanded of Big Companies D.Ocean Plastics Transformed into Sculptures
C
When the explorers first set foot upon the continent of North America, the skies and lands were alive with an astonishing variety of wildlife. Native Americans had taken care of these precious natural resources wisely. Unfortunately, it took the explorers and the settlers who followed only a few decades to decimate a large part of these resources. Millions of waterfowl(水禽) were killed at the hands of market hunters and a handful of overly ambitious sportsmen. Millions of acres of wetlands were dried to feed and house the ever-increasing populations, greatly reducing waterfowl habitat(栖息地).
In 1934, with the passage of the Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp Act (Act), an increasingly concerned nation took firm action to stop the destruction of migratory(迁徙的) waterfowl and the wetlands so vital to their survival. Under this Act, all waterfowl hunters 16 years of age and over must annually purchase and carry a Federal Duck Stamp. The very first Federal Duck Stamp was designed by J.N. "Ding" Darling, a political cartoonist from Des Moines, Iowa, who at that time was appointed by President Franklin Roosevelt as Director of the Bureau of Biological Survey. Hunters willingly pay the stamp price to ensure the survival of our natural resources.
About 98 cents of every duck stamp dollar goes directly into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund to purchase wetlands and wildlife habitat for inclusion into the National Wildlife Refuge System—a fact that ensures this land will be protected and available for all generations to come. Since 1934, better than half a billion dollars has gone into that Fund to purchase more than 5 million acres of habitat. Little wonder the Federal Duck Stamp Program has been called one of the most successful conservation programs ever initiated.
1.1What was a cause of the waterfowl population decline in North America
A.Loss of wetlands. B.Popularity of water sports.
C.Pollution of rivers. D.Arrival of other wild animals.
2.What does the underlined word "decimate" mean in the first paragraph
A.Acquire. B.Export. C.Destroy. D.Distribute.
3.What is a direct result of the Act passed in 1934
A.The stamp price has gone down. B.The migratory birds have flown away.
C.The hunters have stopped hunting. D.The government has collected money.
4.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A.The Federal Duck Stamp Story B.The National Wildlife Refuge System
C.The Benefits of Saving Waterfowl D.The History of Migratory Bird Hunting
D
The coronavirus pandemic (新冠疫情) has brought with it the rise of a new kind of single-use plastic in the form of personal protective equipment (PPE), like face masks and gloves. Experts warned that these sharply increasing single-use items could cause a new wave of plastic pollution and kill wildlife.
The charity Ocean Conservancy reported that volunteers had collected more than 100,000 PPE items from coasts and waterways during the last six months of 2020. They sent out a survey to more than 200 International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) coordinators and volunteers asking about their experience with PPE. The results show that it is a real problem. Volunteers collected 107,219 pieces of PPE in 70 of 115 participating countries. Of those surveyed, 94% reported seeing PPE at a clean-up, and 40% found five items or more. Further, 37% found the items had already sunk into the water.
“During one of our clean-ups in the canals of Leiden, our volunteers found a latex (乳胶) glove with a dead fish trapped in the thumb,” said Auke-Florian Hiemstra, a study coauthor from Leiden University. “Also, in the Dutch canals, we observed that a water bird was using face masks and gloves in its nests.” Other animals that have gotten trapped in face masks include a fox in the UK, a pufferfish in Florida, and two crabs in France. Numerous dogs and cats have been observed eating PPE as well.
The danger posed by PPE goes deeper than what the eye can see. Luckily, there are ways that all of us can be part of the solution to the problem of PPE pollution. Hiemstra suggested using reusable PPE instead of single-use products. In that case, we should deal with them properly by cutting the ear loops to prevent animal entanglements (缠绕物) and throwing them away in a bin that is not overstuffed. “We definitely think it is important for citizens to understand how much PPE is ending up in the environment and impacting animals,” Hiemstra said.
4.What can we infer from the numbers in paragraph 2
A. The large amount of PPE in the environment.
B. Volunteers’ great efforts to protect the ocean.
C. The leading cause of ocean pollution.
D. Difficulties of cleaning up plastic waste in the ocean.
5.Which of the statements is TURE according to the passage
A. PPE is attractive to dogs and cats due to its smell.
B. PPE pollution has done harm to many animals’ lives.
C. Water birds may not be influenced by plastic pollution.
D. Litter makes it hard for boats to pass through the canals.
6.Which of the solutions did Hiemstra mention to reduce PPE pollution
A. Raising the price of PPE items.
B. Cleaning the rubbish bin regularly.
C. Replacing single-use products with reusable ones.
D. Limiting the production of non-recyclable plastic.
7.What is the passage mainly talking about
A. The decline of wildlife due to overhunting.
B. The shortage of personal protective equipment.
C. The increasing number of coronavirus patients.
D. The plastic pollution caused by anti-pandemic products.

Karl walked to the back of the classroom to put his book away. There, lying on the carpet in front of the bookcase was a golden ticket! He picked it up. His heart beat faster when he saw that the name line was blank(空白的).
The boys and girls in Karl's class could earn golden tickets by doing well in their work or by being extra helpful or kind. Once a week his teacher, Miss Evans, drew a ticket out of a jar(广口瓶), and let the winner choose a prize. Karl couldn't believe his luck.
The golden ticket was going to be drawn, and here was another ticket, just for him. He looked around, but no one else was near the ticket. All his classmates were at their desks, laughing and talking with each other.
Karl decided to write his name on the blank line. Then he could put it into the prize jar with the tickets he'd already earned. With so many chances, at least one of his tickets would be picked! Then he could choose the pink pig as his sister's birthday present, just like what he had been hoping for.
He smiled and reached for the pencil in his pocket. Suddenly his fingers stopped. There was a strange feeling in his chest(胸膛), and it wasn't his heartbeat. He looked out of the window and tried to figure it out(弄清楚). He did find the ticket, but he hadn't earned it. Maybe whoever lost it was looking for it. But he needed this extra ticket for his great plan!
He remembered what Dad had told him and his sister. "When you make a right choice, you can feel peaceful inside. You never have to feel bad about your choice later."

A
For ticket information, please ask at your local station or call 13 12 30."
The lost property office is open Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm and is located at Roma Street station."
He builds massive sculptures out of plastic garbage, forcing viewers to re-examine their relationship to single-use plastic products."
Just 9% of global plastic waste is recycled. Plastic straws are by no means the biggest source of plastic pollution...because of their small size and weight, they cannot be recycled." 故选A项。
Millions of acres of wetlands were dried to feed and house the ever-increasing populations, greatly reducing waterfowl habitat"可知, 湿地丧失是水禽数量减少的原因之一, 故A项正确。
About 98 cents of every duck stamp dollar goes directly into the Migratory Bird Conservation Fund...Since 1934, better than half a billion dollars has gone into that Fund"可知, 《候鸟狩猎印花税法案》带来的一个直接结果是政府筹到了钱, 故D项正确。
D
1.答案:A
2.答案:B
3.答案:C

故选A项。
I remembered 8 then how far I could thrust my knee between the rails"说明, "我"在将膝盖往前推(push)。故选A项。
10.上文的"my knee was stuck"说明, 膝盖肿了(swell), 卡住了。故选D项。
12.上文说手指"get whiter and whiter", 下文说手指"lovely shade of pink", 所以手指是恢复到(return to)正常, 故选B项。
13.上文的"my knee was stuck and 10 before my eyes and in front of lots of strangers at a popular Las Vegas hotel"说明, "我"很尴尬(embarrassment)。故选C项。
I was 15 fifty years old when this happened."
15.下文的"fifty years old when this happened"说明, 这里是转折, 结合选项, after all(毕竟)符合语境, 故选C项。

I did find the ticket, but I haven't earned it. And these are mine," he said, dropping several tickets into the jar on his teacher's desk. When he turned around to leave, Miss Evans called him back.
Paragraph 2:
"Karl, I'd like you to have another ticket," Miss Evans said. "You were honest and returned this one. By the way, what prize would you choose if your ticket was drawn The big candy bar or the fire truck " Karl said happily right away. "The pink pig! It's my sister's birthday next week, and I really want to give it to her. That's her favorite animal." Karl sat down at his desk and smiled. He still wanted his ticket to be picked, but he would be happy even if it wasn't. Dad was right. Making the right choice did make him feel great, and maybe, he still might win the pink pig.
