There were around 277 meal sites in the area through spring and summer. In the fall semester, more than 450 sites were open for meals. In the world, there are lots of people who want to help out. Some offer their professional skills for free. Others have no qualifications (资源), but they love to work hard to help.
One of the most famous volunteers in the world was Mother Teresa. She could be the best volunteer because she gave her life to help the poorest people of Calcutta. She helped the homeless, cared for the sick, gave out food, and became the mother of those without families.
Now, more and more teenagers actively look for volunteering chances, too. They volunteer because they think it will be fun or they will be fun or they will learn something. They also like the idea of being helpful to others, even if it is just handing out books for teachers. As they get older, these reasons are still the same, but there are other important reasons for volunteering such as learning on the job, getting work experience, and improving their social life.

Liu Zhonglan, a street cleaner from Hefei, Anhui Province, received(收到)her breakfast at 6 a.m. one day in September. Not only Liu, more than 12,000 cleaners of the city got free breakfast every day in this month. There was porridge, bread, eggs and so on.
Liu often starts to work at 4 a.m. She usually brings some food from home. But sometimes she is too tired to prepare it and she doesn’t want to buy any to save money. Most of the cleaners like her in Hefei get less than 3,000 yuan a month.
The price of each breakfast was from 6 to 8 yuan. The government(政府)paid for it. An officer said, “We care about each street cleaner’s health, so we invite them to have free breakfast. For those who do not need to work in the morning, the government will add the money to their salary (薪水).” He believed giving the breakfast was better than adding money to their salaries, because if they chose money, some of them would probably still not have breakfast. This could make them face health problems.
