1. Relative clauses introduced by “that” only:
1)When the antecedent contains a superlative form of an adjective:

2) When the antecedent noun is modified by “the only, the same, the very, the first, the last, no, little, few, much, none, any, every”, etc.:
Any question that is not related to the topic under discussion is not allowed.>>
3) When the antecedent is “all, little, anything, everything, etc.:
Do you understand everything (that) Prof. Fu talks about in class
4) When the antecedent is composed of both sb. and sth.:
The dog and his owner that were crossing the street were knocked over by a car.>>
5) When the sentence containing the antecedent begins with “there be”:
a. There has been a lot of trouble that keeps us busy.
b. Some people don’t see there are bottom lines even for a war that distinguish human from animals.>>
6) When the sentence containing the antecedent begins with “who, which, what”:

2. Relative clauses introduced by “as” (+) : Everyone is to write 2 sentences before some write on the blackboard
e.g.
a. She is as stingy/mean a woman as has ever lived.
b. Don’t mix with such people as are absorbed in gambling.>>
c. It wasn’t such a good meal as she had promised us.
d. To climb Mount Qomolangma, as everyone knows, is to endanger one’s life.
e. As luck would have it, he survived two air crashes.>>
3. Relative clauses introduced by “but” and “than” :
a. There are few of us but want money.
-- … that do not want money.
b. Do you know any monkey but likes climbing trees.
-- … that does not like climbing trees.>>
c. There is nothing but we can overcome.
--“but” as object , meaning “that we can not overcome”
d. There is almost no place in the world but the US sticks/pokes its nose into.
--“but” as object of a preposition, meaning “that the US does not stick/poke its nose into”>>
e. More problems than we had expected arose during the battle.
--“than” as object of “expected”
f. More and more cases of COVID-19 keep occurring in the world than were first predicted.
